Ok so we're now two days out. At #22 it's really tough to get a bead on what player we might target. Most fans I talk to can't even tell me who they legitimately want at #22. I've heard the following names constantly tossed around.
Hassan Reddick (know nothing about him)
Lamp
Peppers
Watt
Foster
Njoku
Howard (if he falls)
The Copy Repairman.
So essentially, we get the phonebook of potentials.
I'm going to go away from the norm and say I'd like us to take Watt at #22. He's a hell of a talent at DE and can play LB as well. I also like the fact that we know from watching his brothers that he'll demonstrate the right level of professionalism and work his tail off.
Who do you think we should select and why? I think we'd all like to know the most about each potential player so we don't have to fire up the google machine after the pick to learn about them.

I think you'd have to put Obi, Barnett(if he falls), Takk (if he falls), Taco, Zach, and I've seen some mocks where Hooker is our pick. (I doubt he falls that far.)
In short: DE, LB, CB/S, in no particular order
For me...I'm praying that we get Peppers (however I'd love Obi too) or
if they go LB I hope it's either Zach or Davis.
If we go DE, then ideally Barnett or Takk.Rickysabeast and Base of Gase like this. -
No matter how the draft shakes, I believe if one of the TE's are there, we pull the trigger. I believe Miami will attend to their defensive needs later, however, a TE to transform this offense NOW and for the future is too good to pass up. As a matter of fact, I could see Miami going all in on offense and trading up. As for the defense, I just don't think Miami could fix all the holes (and there are a bunch) in one draft class. I think they will have to dip again in Free Agency next year to fill needs. But this offense, is ready to go. This offense in year two needs to create mismatches left and right and can be leaned on to carry this team. I said this before, imagine Spiderman, Juice, Stills and a TE flanked out, with Drake in the backfield. In addition, I am not relying on the health of Thomas. I believe Miami will address defense in picks in the 2nd and 3rd.

I posted the same thoughts in some other threads. I do agree that we should snag Njoku if he's still there. I like Watt but I posted this thread more so I can get education on the potential selection. -
I really need to read up on Takk and Obi as I don't know much about them. Who is better at LB Zach or Davis?

If we stand pat at #22:
• Forrest Lamp
• Derek Barnett
• Taco Charlton
• Malik McDowell
If we do a trade down:
• TJ Watt
• Jarrad Davis
• Obi Melifonwu
• Jordan Willis
I'd be happy with any of those eight players as our number one draft pick. If those players are there at each group, I'd pick Derek Barnett at #22 and TJ Watt from the trade down spot.
If something crazy happened, like Malik Hooker dropped to the teens and we were miraculously able to trade up? I'd do that in a heartbeat, as I think that Hooker is going to be a special player and has one of the highest ceilings in this draft class. I know we'd probably have to give up a lot, but I'd be ok with the quality over quantity aspect.
I didn't mention either O.J. Howard and David Njoku, because I really don't see them making it to #22 (much like my pipe dream with Hooker). Still, it's nice to dream about the possibilities.Last edited: Apr 25, 2017Rickysabeast likes this. -
Really, my thoguths have been centered around defense at 22.
However, seeing Pouncey on crutches still yesterday (regardless of a recent treatment or not) really makes me think we should look at the interior OL. Clearly our Guard situation isn't good, and Pouncey obviously is solid when he's available, but that's becoming less and less frequent. I'd think the odds are more in favor of him not playing the majority of this season as opposed to playing.
That being said, I'd therefore like take Forrest Lamp at 22 if he's there. We just can't pass up the opportunity to fix the weakest unit of this team. Yes, we can address it in later rounds, and I believe we should do just that as well.
If I can't get Lamp, or justify that position at 22 (and I am struggling with the thought of taking Lamp/OL there) I'd like to see (in no particular order, and of course, if available) Melifonwu, Peppers, Cunningham, or best available pass rusher. We need help at all three of those areas, so I'd be happy whichever direction they went. OL/S/LB/DE, get me someone capable of starting quality minutes at one of those positions and I'm happy. -
Yeah. I kinda feel the same. I've posted a couple times that I thought it would be a waste of a pick at #22 as Guards are available in other rounds. But, if there's that uncertainty, I think Lamp would be the right call. Seeing Pouncey on crutches made it very real. It's so unsexy of a selection I want to barf but if it helps the running game get going by adding the right person in there. Key point needs to be durability. Our O line is so often injured it's really a travesty. I don't know what Lamp's durability history is but if it's solid, I'd be down for picking him at this point. Otherwise, we really need a DE like super bad. I guess Barnett is becoming #1 on my wish list.

willis fits the scheme to a t. taco it comes down to how he fared at the meeting they had and how much Miami believes that he's just scratching the surface of his potential on (which I believe is the case) and lamp gives us starting guard and pivot option...and might long term be best as a pivot even

As long as they take a defensive player with the pick, I really don't care which one it is. They have needs on the DL, LB, and in the secondary. So the best available at any of these positions will be fine with me.
The one thing I have no interest in is seeing them draft a offensive player in the first round. In fact I hope they use their first three picks on defense and wait until their picks in the fifth round before they even look at drafting an offensive player.Finster likes this. -
if you have a top 25 grade on a de do not even think about taking a guard over it
cause every down 43 de's with outside shoulder win don't grow on trees draft wise and the plan is to keep picking later each year...it's only gonna get harder to acquire them

At this point as deep as this draft is, I am really leaning towards hoping someone blows our socks off with a trade package of picks that we just cant refuse. Unless someone takes a huge fall that we are in love with and just cant pass up I'm thinking that would be our best option.

I'm hoping we see a QB fall to our pick and Houston or the Browns want to jump up (or back into the first in the case of the Browns) to grab him at #22. The Browns could give us two seconds and a third for example, while Houston would need to offer a third rounder. A bidding war would be ideal.
I've been saying we need to fix the OL, so Lamp looks good if we stay at #22, but some may teams find good Guards in the later rounds, I am tempted to say take the best DEFENSIVE play left at #22.danmarino and Tin Indian like this. -
