Bears waived WR Freddie Barnes.


Barnes was one of the high-profile undrafted free agent signings after setting multiple records in Bowling Green's spread offense. Barnes is just a borderline athlete, though, and he was no higher than seventh on the depth chart in Chicago.

 

49ers waived FB Brit Miller.


Miller was active for five games last season as a special teamer. His chances of making the roster took a hit early in camp when he sustained a sprained ankle.

 

Saints released DE Bobby McCray.


McCray, 29, was outplayed by undrafted rookie Junior Galette, so the move will come as a surprise to only 2009 Saints-smitten beat writers in New Orleans. McCray has back problems and little production to show for. He may garner some interest, but it'd be a surprise if he made an impact in the league again.

 

Bears waived S Al Afalava.


Afalava, a starter for 13 games last season, was beaten out by veteran Josh Bullocks for the final safety spot. The 2009 sixth-rounder isn't a starting caliber player, but he should garner interest as a backup.

 

Patriots released DL Damione Lewis.


The Pats were hurting for depth up front with Ty Warren (hip) out for the year, but Lewis was never a strong bet to stick. He had just a half-sack with Carolina last year and was transitioning from the one-gap defensive tackle position at age 32. Gerard Warren and Mike Wright are the favorites to start at defensive end this year.

 

Jets waived OLB Ricky Foley.


Foley was just claimed off waivers earlier in the week. He may get another look from an NFL team, but his best bet is to return to Canada as one of the league's premier pass rushers.

center justin hartwig is available for a trade with the steelers. since they lost leftwhich maybe we could trade them thigpen or penny if the coaching staff thats a problem area. i'm not sure it is but if they feel that way it may be a good trade, hartwig for thigpen straight up or hartwig and a draft pick for penny

 

Falcons waived DT/FB Dan Klecko.


Klecko was signed in January after sitting out the 2009 season. He'll be on emergency lists as a possible injury fill-in this year.

 

Patriots waived TEs Carson Butler and Rob Myers.

Butler has bounced around to a half-dozen teams after entering the league out of Michigan last year. Myers, undrafted out of Utah State, was signed to a reserve/futures contract back in January.

 

he's not going to be waived padre. if they cant find a trade partner they will keep him. personally i think grove and berger are just as good but if the coaching staff felt other wise then they could pursue it. the only reason he's on the trade block is because of the development of pouncey.

 

49ers released RB/FB Michael Robinson and CB Karl Paymah.


Robinson has been stuck in a special teams role since early in his rookie season of 2006. With 3.4 YPC average on 86 career totes, he won't attract any interest as a running back. Paymah has proven to be no more than a special teamer himself.

49ers waived WR Jason Hill.

Hill was outplayed by Dominique Zeigler in training camp. The 2007 third-rounder has been plagued by injuries, but he's a talent upgrade over several third or fourth receivers around the league. Expect him to be snatched up on waivers.

Cardinals released ILB Monty Beisel.


Beisel's bad news qualifies as great news for the Cardinals defense. His release means that impressive rookie Daryl Washington has played his way into a starting job next to Paris Lenon with Gerald Hayes (back) in doubt for the opener.

Broncos waived NT Chris Baker.


Baker was kept on the 53-man roster last season for depth during the team's switch to a 3-4 scheme. He's no longer needed with veterans Jamal Williams and Justin Bannan providing a major upgrade.

 

Eagles acquired OG Reggie Wells from the Cardinals in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

It's a smart trade for the Eagles, a team with major questions on the interior of the offensive line. LG Todd Herremans has rarely practice this summer with a foot injury, and RG Stacy Andrews has struggled consistently since being signed last offseason. Wells also has experience at center, where Philly has Jamaal Jackson returning from ACL surgery.

Cardinals waived OLB Stevie Baggs.

At least Cameron Wake is still carrying the torch for Canada. Baggs tied Ricky Foley, released by the Jets earlier in the day, for the CFL sack lead last season. Both pass rushers are undersized for the NFL.

Bears waived TE Richard Angulo.


You know it's time for Angulo to start pursuing opportunities outside of football when a team with Mike Tice on the staff cuts him loose. Angulo has followed Tice around the league the past couple of seasons.

 

Poor kid....McD probably wanted to know how Brandon was doing...

Broncos waived LB Jammie Kirlew, WR Alric Arnett, TE Nathan Overbay, LB Johnny Williams, OT Paul Duncan, and TE Kory Sperry.


Kirlew is the best bet for the practice squad out of this group. He was a sixth-round pick in April's draft, but was outplayed by undrafted rookie Kevin Alexander. Duncan, another undrafted free agent, played at Notre Dame.

 

Saints released RB Ladell Betts.


We suspected that Betts wouldn't last coming off ACL surgery. For now, DeShawn Wynn and Chris Ivory both remain on the roster as the third and fourth backs, but Ivory is going for tests on a knee injury during Thursday's game. Betts may have to wait for an injury to strike during the season to get another shot.

 

Eagles waived RB J.J. Arrington, WR Dobson Collins, DE Pannel Egboh, TE Nate Lawrie, and OT Jeraill McCuller.


Don't to be so quick to declare the Broncos the winners of the Arrington-Joe Mays trade. The Eagles will now receive a 2012 sixth-round pick from Denver since Arrington didn't make the roster.

 

Eagles waived RB Martell Mallett, CB David Pender, CB Geoff Pope, DT Boo Robinson, and S Anthony Scirrotto.


The exodus of former CFL stars continues. Mallett was Canada's rookie of the year with the Montreal Alouettes in 2009, but he was never a good bet to stick as a third-down back with the Eagles. Pope saw action in an injury-depleted Philly secondary late last season.

49ers informed OLB Bruce Davis of his release.


Travis LaBoy outplayed the former third-round pick, so Davis is among the 49ers' first cuts. He could resurface this year on a practice squad elsewhere.

 

Cardinals released TE Anthony Becht.


The blocking specialist re-signed in Arizona last March after making visits to the Raiders and 49ers. Steven Spach will handle blocking duties now, with rookie Jim Dray waiting in the wings.

 

really liked bruce davis when he was at UCLA. Bit surprised he hasnt done more in the NFL.

Falcons waived S Eric Brock.


Atlanta is only going to keep four safeties, and Erik Coleman, Thomas DeCoud, and 2009 second-round pick William Moore were all locks. Brock, a futures signee, was unable to beat out impressive rookie Shann Schillinger.

 

49ers waived FB Jehuu Caulcrick.


The Niners will move forward with Moran Norris at lead blocker.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that the Cowboys are "moving close" to trading Patrick Crayton.

La Canfora expects a deal "shortly." The reporter doesn't speculate as to Crayton's future whereabouts, but the team acquiring Crayton will have to pick up his $2 million base salary for 2010. It was a prohibitive number for the Cowboys, who only would've kept Crayton around as a fourth receiver.
