thanks con, we just got a great player, may not be the sexiest pick but the kid should be a fixture for the next 10 years.

I can't believe so many people hate this pick. We couldn't run the ball at all last season. We need help on offense and got help. I am very happy with the pick.

I love the pick itself. But, I'm kinda disappointed about rolling through the draft without a 2nd. There are just too many WRs and RBs in the 2nd to pass up. Scares me that we won't even go after a WR now.

its definately not a sexy pick but cant complain to much
The center position has finaly been addressed, may not be a skill position but he will help the skill poitions do there job.
Pouncey will be a guard I thought. He's a great puller.
lol You better hope it ain't Pouncy, if upgrading the center position with him is what you have in mind. I'm a Gator fan and we saw all we wanted of that experiment.

And should be a very good one.
Anybody who hates this pick really doesn't know football. Football is won and lost in the trenches. I really wish we could have traded down and gotten a 2nd, but this is still a very good pick.

Solid pick...Just hate to wait.
We already have a Long Snapper.
What's all this talk about sexy picks? Who gives a ****? Take a good player. We got an outstanding one today. Thank goodness we didn't take Ingram.

I kinda like the pick, but I had Stefen Wisniewski, C/G, from Penn State on my mind simply for the reason of him being a little more versatile. If this is what it takes to FINALLY nail down the offensive line then I am all for it.

Is that Dareus he's up against most of the time vs Alabama? Certainly holding his own vs #3 overall.
I prefer him as a G b/c I think he's great on the move, but the snap problems are overblown. He had a couple bad ones in the early games but after that he wasn't the problem. He was snapping as well as his brother did the previous season but Brantley couldn't catch as well as Tebow.
He also had to operate as a pulling center. A lot of those snap problems he was trying to pull before he even snapped the ball. If here were able to get everything to slow down, not have to worry about pulling as much and just get some experience under his belt, then he will be fine.
That was his first year at center.
I am kind of disappointed, not because I think Pouncey is bad (I really don't know, I nevere saw the kid play) but mainly because I thought and hoped that Sparano could build a good offensive line without having to spend a first on Long, one on Pouncey, a third on Jerry and many millions on Carey....
on the other side, I have to admit that, as I increasingly lose confidence in our GM&Coach, I can console myself that, whoever in the future will manage our team, he will find a good and young OL in place...
and now, we have likely to wait unitle the 3rd round, sigh

Given where we are and what are needs are right now, I think it's a good pick, I cheered last night. Great player filling a big need, no pun intended.
But indeed it is a reminder of how our O line head coach is still trying to put together an O line going into year four. Not only the guys mentioned in the quote, but there was a 4th spent on Shawn Murphy, a 6th spent on Donald Thomas, millions spent on Justin Smiley... none of whom were on the team as of last year.
I hope the lesson is being learned from last year, if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you are one of the top five rushing teams, don't overturn your entire interior O line. When you have a budding star at nose and a D end with a breakout year and other immediate needs beyond D Line, don't make Starks change positions and spend a 1st round pick on Odrick.

Bingo, we got Bingo!
As a former offensive line coach, Sparano sure does need alot of blue chippers up front to make it work - now three former 1st rounders (I know Carey wasn't his selection, but it doesn't change the fact that Ireland and Sparano have thrown an overwhelming amount of resources at it). Can you win that way? The Jets have tried it, but since when has that franchise become a blueprint for anything other than failure?
As a fan myself, I really don't want to rain on any other fan's parade.
But, there is a reason why nobody's taken a Center this high since the early 90's - the position doesn't warrant such a high pick.
These guys have no clue of how to build a successful franchise. I believe that they have used 2 1's and a 3 on OL, including a #1 overall and a #15, in the past 3 years and the line is still in flux.
Meanwhile we have only used a #2 on QB which is by far the most important position.
Need a new FO.
Kinda like a dog chasing its tail. Pointless and fruitless.
about pick 15 & the future:
1) my best guess is he'll start @ Center not Guard , unless Incognito can legitimately win the start in the middle.
2) we know Incognito can start @ either Guard & play well, however, he's unproven @ Center.
3) Pouncey can pull @ either Guard or Center (having said that) Center is the critical piece to get right on an offensive line.
I liked the pick @ 15, it goes a long way to re-establishing a base to rebuild the offense. look for another offensive linesman to be picked up as we move through the draft
if Jerry meets expectation we should have a decent offensive line
We won't be able to do squat until we get our QB.
This year, a lot of QB's were taken in the top 14..... taking a QB at #15 would have been reaching. None of them really worth the pick. So this pick was fine.
but we -NEED- a QB. We gotta do something.
we have to first recover from the self-mutilation of our offensive line before we do anything else
Rome wasn't built in a day
there are possibilities @ QB:
1) Henne could finally step up & assume the franchise. I don't think this will happen but it is possible & the best/easiest of possibilities.
2) we could acquire a budding star from the Canadian League or late round long-shot that pays off
3) might give a worthy/talented veteran QB a second chance & he might get it right in Miami
4) the 2012 draft may hold the answer: Andrew Luck, if we're willing to pay the price
there will be an answer, eventually the franchise QB will emerge
by the way, I am not expert so I ask you, but usually Center is not a position that take year to develop, because of experience/calling blocks assignments etc.? It is realistic to think that Pouncey will start at C as a rookie? I thought that he would play guard at first, but I red that Ireland select him as a C
sorry for my English
Ireland said that on his depth chart he has him at center, however he also said it was up to the coaches where he would play.
IMO it would be a waste of his ability to pull to put him at center

2010 NFL Draft: Maurkice Pouncey (pick 18)
2009 NFL Draft: Alex Mack (pick 21)
2009 NFL Draft: Eric Wood (pick 28)
2006 NFL Draft: Nick Mangold (pick 29)
Thats four Centers in the first round of the last five drafts. There has been 3 Centers drafted in the first round the last 2 years. Also three of those four Centers drafted are Pro Bowlers.
I agree. I would really like to see him at LG, but like I keep saying I believe we are going to take Will Rackely with our 3rd round pick and put him at LG. A solid Center is vital against 3-4 teams. If Pouncey can block Wilfork and the other 3-4 noses we see every year it would instantly create a numbers advantage for us and greatly improve our OL as a whole.
Sorry I keep posting here, I had a huge Organic Chemistry Final today so I didn't get to post much yesterday as I was studying.
I just read that we never brought in Pouncey for a workout. This is interesting to me in the fact that we knew we wanted him and wanted to cover our interest. Or this means we knew what he had to offer from tape and didn't have to work him out. This also could indicate that a guy we were targeting wasn't there and we had to go BPA (I think this is the least likely scenerio).
