So I've been getting a few questions about the practice squad recently and I figured I'd try to explain it more thoroughly here... and answer any questions that you guys have. GM League 2010 Practice Squad Rules -Up to 5 players on a practice squad -$2.0M practice squad cap that is SEPARATE from your $58.0M team cap. -Players can only make $400K or less to be practice squad eligible. -Only players entering their first, second, and third seasons are practice squad eligible. -Other teams may steal your practice squad players IF they offer them a $400K contract and a spot on their 53 man roster. -Only players drafted this year in rounds 4-7 can be added to your practice squad (for player salary reasons). And a refresher, here's the rookie pay scale in the GM League this year. Draft Picks Salaries First Round Picks 1 - 5 pick: $750,000 6 - 10 Pick: $700,000 11 - 20 Pick: $650,000 21 - 32 Pick: $600,000 Other round selections: 2nd round: $500,000 3rd round: $450,000 4th-7th round: $300,000 You guys can just add a practice squad section to your team page if you want, but you do not have to name your practice squad players until the roster freeze which is in April or May (I forget when exactly). If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask.
I doubt it on the 60 million... but when you do cut down to 53, can you immediately load up your practice squad or do they have to be cut first?
I don't really see a chance for anyone to pick off players from other teams practice squad if they don't have to post them until final rosters.
I think we need to set a time table to set Practice squad I think they have to be added 1 week after the draft.
The practice squad idea is eh...I'm not really crazy about it. I guess we will see how it works next year.
i think its probably best to set aside players for the practice squad and just keep it as such, nothin like teams can snag the PS players or anything like that like the nfl does. just my opinion though.
I believe that people draft 7th round picks and such where they don't have room on their 53 man roster. Or maybe they have a player they really like but isn't 53 man roster material. I am not going to force people to have a 53 man roster... people don't like change and that's the way it is. So if you are unwilling to put in a little extra research on players, that's not my problem. And I know that's why some people don't want to do it, whether they admit to it or not. The practice squad is simply to stash developmental players that you picked up in free agency or in the late rounds... It's not going to put a team over the top but it's something that will make this a little more fun for some people. I'm giving you a separate cap for practice squad players too, it's not like I'm screwing over your salary cap situation.
It's going on this year, I made an announcement on it right away but clearly it didn't stick. There is a separate $2M designed strictly to your practice squad so no one can tell me "oh but my cap situation....."
No the reason t why i dont wanna do it is because developemental players dont matter. 1 yr league is not/ shoud not effect voting anyway.
hey i like the idea of PS, im definitely gonna take advantage of it. im just sayin for those who will use it, just freeze the 5 players and let it be. ive already got 3-4 players im set on putting on PS
You're right, it probably won't affect the voting... but if we go by your logic, what's the point of drafting past the 3rd round?
this just in... Dolphins looking to trade up in the draft from the sixth and seventh rounds to the third round.
so we can just move cap space to the practice squad to fit draft picks in? (as long as 400k or less of course)
but that basically functions to create an extra 2 million in cap space as long as you keep moving minimum $$ players.
If their on our PS for 48 hours + can we add them to the roster? or would we have to bid on them again?
question, lets say you name your five ps guys, but then aren't happy with one of them... can you cut one and sign someone else to your PS?
Do we even have to post PS cuts? I mean considering you don't have to wait 48 hours to get a PS player.
