A good friend of mine, through bad decisions on her part, is in an induced coma in the hospital in critical condition. She's a 5' tall, 95 pound dripping wet 47 year old woman who - against the advice of ALL her friends - bought herself a 650 cc motorcycle, and last Thursday with only three months of experience decided to head out into traffic with it. She took a turn too fast and too wide, and hit a pickup truck broadside and was dragged 100 feet. Also, since CT has no helmet law, she wasn't wearing one. Both legs and both arms are shattered, her pelvis is broken, they removed her spleen and part of her pancreas, she has the back of her head split open, and now is on life support with filters in her arteries to prevent clots from getting to her heart. She survived the initial 48 hours, which is a good sign. Docs said she'll be in the coma for at least a week until they can do all the surgeries to repair her pelvis and her limbs. After that, she'll be in the hospital for at least 3 months. Her friends are organizing a benefit concert to help her pay her bills while she's laid up. She's a single mom with 4 daughters, only one still living at home, and her bills aren't going to wait. My band will definitely perform at the benefit. So please send those energies, prayers, etc. her way. She'll need them, this is a life-altering accident. Thanks in advance gang...
Sorry I'm late to the thread, brother. I will be praying for her and her family. I pray the benefit raises a lot of money for her.
Update.... The surgeries are on hold. She developed pneumonia. As soon as that clears up they'll operate. They took her out of the coma, and her daughter said she's "not behaving", which the docs say is a good sign, cause she's feisty. Let's hope she stays that way...
Prayers and best wishes for her and her family. Her spirit and support from family and friends can do wonders along with Gods help. A little over a year ago a guy ran a red light and hit me at 60 miles an hour slammed my car into a guard rail and rolled over my car. I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. I had 2 punctured lungs a compressed heart broken ribs dislocated left elbow and my upper right arm shattered. They told my family I was not likely to survive. I spent over 2 months on a respirator and 3 months total in the hospital. I took strength from my family and friends and my faith. My lungs are fine and I only have slight handicap in my arms making me learn new ways to do things and minor issues with my voice from the trachea tube and I'm doing great. So I know what she is going thru at least somewhat. Her injuries are more severe but people have survived that kind of trauma. She can too. She has a long hard fight ahead of her but being feisty is a good step in the right direction. Let her know how many people are pulling for her. It helps.
