What NFL teams usually have the most primetime games? Also, what's the deciding factor for those teams to get those primetime spots on television??

Usually any team that had a good season the year before gets a few primetime games, if they're a good and more popular team like the Cowboys, Steelers, etc. then they will get a handful.

5 is the max national game a team can get and it determine on how good the team is based on the year before and the off-season.

There's a reason why you never see the Lions on primetime.

I think I heard or read somewhere that the TV networks get to pick which games are shown on primetime Sat. and Sun. nite based on the TV contract they signed. One network gets the first pick then its a round robin type thing. The Sunday DAY networks do get priority some games or times. ....meaning the Nite networks, ESPN etc., wont get ALL of the best games, they just get first pick sometimes.

If it were up to me the Dolphins would play at 1:00 every week. I'm not a big fan of the primetime games.
There have been some good ones though. Most notably the '85 Bears game. It seems like yesterday it just happened.
Anyone else remember watching the Monday night game we played against NE in '80? I was watching when they broke in and sadly announced that Lennon had been shot and killed. I will never forget Cosell reporting it live on national television.
Even though we won the game it didn't seem important. Sad night. -
