I agree Henne needs to step up, he made some mistakes, but he was a first year starter those things should iron out. But it isn't all about him, he needs some people around him, and a better defense to support him.
Great snippet, thanks. I agree. Henne has to develop to another level of consistency next year. We need a true WR threat. Ronnie needs to be healthy. We need defensive help to though. Pass rush, middle defense? On another note, I couldn't agree more with the writer on the Wildcat. If our base offense progresses you will see it less and less. I'm surprised that I haven't seen protests of that statement from the writer from the throngs that claimed the Wildcat would revolutionize the NFL and become a focus of many teams this past year.
A pity there is no film of Jim Mora saying: "Superbowl?!?!..SuperBowl?!?!...we went 7-9 and you wanna talk about the Super Bowl?!?!?" As for Prisco and the WC...he despises the thing, always has, yet there was Brad Smith running it in the AFC Title game...
Sure the Jets ran it, but the 2 teams that made it have strong enough offenses that they don't need to mess with it. That's the point IMO. If a team has a solid offense you won't see them messing with the Wildcat. If the Wildcat was such a revolutionary attack it would force itself into everyone's offense regardless.
And that is a fair point. Disagree, in my view that is faulty logic as it stiffles innovation. When a team has placed as many resources as the Dolphins have into the Oline then that must be maximized and the Wildcat does. There is no clear answer to this discussion, it will have to play out on the field.
This is true. The Eagles did a really weird thing with it where the C and G's were up on the line but the tackles were out wide with the receivers. It was odd lookin' stuff man.
you dont run the wildcat unless you have a player that has formation specific skills.. Let other teams try, watch them fail.
The 2008 Saints were 8-8. I don't think it's a stretch. With a couple of breaks that 7-9 could have been 9-7 and a playoff berth.
We are not going to jump anywhere unless we fix our defense. Yes we need a number # 1 Wr, but the defense should come first.
Different rosters completely though, they added Vilma and Bushrod and Shockey already had Bush and added sharper as well, they had Colston, Moore, Meachum The Saints players are in their prime, experienced and talented, we have talent but little experience and weaknesses in key positions like ILB,NT,S, Qb, Wr. And Payton has more experience as a HC, the dirty secret of 09 is, we lost both games coming off of Holiday breaks, that is a sign of a inexperienced team and coach imho.
Exactly, unless they find their versions of McGinnest and Chris Slade, the switch to the 3-4 is still in the protoplasm stage. The keys to the 3-4, NT, OLB, ILB's who can blitz, we simply do not have and have only had for 8 games or so in 2008.
They fixed their defense. That was the difference. It's exactly what the Dolphins need to do. And it can get done. They tweaked the offense but it was really good when they were 8-8. The defense was the key.
Pete Prisco is probably the worst national writer out there and has been personally offended about the Wildcat since the beginning. Its not in any sense threatened by better quarterback play. You still got to run the ball, and when you got a way to do it in a way that can grind up elite defenses when they know is coming its useful no matter what.
offense: WR, maybe a TE defense: NT, ILB & maybe a FS special teams: set means three to five holes to fill to make a run on the BigEnchilada w/ excellent draft positioning & plenty of picks along w/ the free agency to study not very much not much @ all we will contend in 2010
As much as I wish, next year we're not likely to make the SB. Too many holes to fill, and even if we fill them all very well, this team will need a season to gel together, especially Henne and his WR's, hopefully a new legit #1 WR who then opens things up for Bess and Hartline & Ginn can then stretch the field. We COULD do it, and I sure as heck am dreaming we will, but I just don't see it. I see us in the playoffs, and maybe even the AFC Championship game. But to win the SB next season is just too much even for me to believe.
I think Fasano is a fine tight end. Had a down year but I expect him to bounce back. Solid blocker as well. If we can get a top receiver or someone on our roster becomes one I think we're set on offense.
Wally B became the CFL wins leader last yr, Dolphins fans celebrate Coach Shula for being the NFL's wins leader, so to me it makes sense to sport that Avatar..99% of NFL fans have -0- clue who the man is. And I'm a football fan first and foremost.
