Could be bad: The fear is #Dolphins Pro Bowl S Reshad Jones tore his rotator cuff, source said. Tests now, but could be done for the season

One of the stars on that #Dolphins defense that held down the #Steelers, losing Reshad Jones (rotator cuff) for the season would be crushing

This ends all of your pipe dreams of the Dolphins being a relevant team this season.

It's not like he's throwing fastballs. Get a sling, rub some dirt on it, and get back to work.

His doctor said that he'd be out for the year, but Jones immediately said that he's seeking a second opinion. So evidently he wants to tough it out and keep playing- which earns him about 4,371 cool points in my book.

He's the one guy on defense we didn't want to lose. This is football, so next man up as the saying goes. Every team has significant injuries at some point in the season. I don't think we're doing much this year anyway, so it may be a blessing. Preserve the greatness that is Reshad Jones? I don't know...that's my half witted attempt at being positive and it came out sarcastic. No no....
We're screwed....even worse...smoke a cigarette....Pandarilla likes this. -
damn im bummed...the only player on D and probably the whole team that brings it every freaking play.
did he end up getting his extension during the offseason??dolphin25 likes this. -
Aikens has been in the doghouse, too. Inactive due to tardiness at a meeting. His safety play has been dog **** the last two years. However, there is hope as he is tearing it up on special teams.
Thomas is capable, but more timely auditions for our backups. Lippett has played well, Ajayi broke out, Urbik, Steen...
If Jones plays he'd be flirting with real HOF greatness. -

If he goes on IR now he has a good chance of playing at his normal level next season. Playing on and aggravating a rotator cuff puts him into a high risk of a career ending injury.P h i N s A N i T y, EverFin and Pandarilla like this. -

Agreed^ Jones needs to be paid, and deservedly so. We dump 90+ million into an average quarterback, but hesitate to pay arguably the best safety in the game who is also in the prime of his career.

Armando's Take:
"Good news, bad news: Jones out, help comingThis is bad: Reshad Jones is out for the remainder of the year, a league source is telling The Miami Herald. That means the Dolphins' most impactful and productive player is done.
Jones tore a rotator cuff against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday and got two different physicians to confirm the injury.
The Dolphins have a choice of playing Michael Thomas or Walt Aikens at Jones's safety position the remainder of the season. Jordan Lucas also backs up at safety but is unlikely to be the answer.
On the bright side the Dolphins today expect both cornerback Chris Culliver and linebacker Zack Vigil to practice for the first time this season. Both are expected to ease into drills. That means they probably will only take individual drills initially.
Culliver, a cornerback, had been on the physically unable to perform list because he blew out his knee last November while playing for the Washington Redskins. he was signed by the Dolphins with the vision of him helping the team during what was expected to be a playoff run. That run is not certain but if he can regain the form he had previously, he will upgrade the secondary. Vigil suffered a back injury sometime in the offseason and is also on the physically unable to perform list.
The Dolphins need Culliver. The team's cornerback situation is almost dire because starter Xavien Howard recently had a second surgery on a knee and is two weeks into a recovery period that was expected to take between 3 to 6 weeks."Pandarilla likes this. -
Typical Miami rotten luck. It's the NFL so you expect injuries, next man up and all that, but damn if he's not our best player ( I think he is) he's one of the top 2 or 3.

The comments in the Mando article had some interesting contingency plans. Jeremy Cash from the Panthers for one. I actually want to give Aikens a shot at redemption. Fast, good size, been in this defense as long as anyone. My thoughts are that Bills will go run heavy and Thomas is a bit light in the pants.

Thomas + Aikens + free agent makes enough sense.
Look at the upside. This only further ensures a high draft pick which works in our favor. We'll get Jones back next year. The possibility of a good record this year can only hurt us.
Miami ain't no Playoff team.
