I have an idea that would make the pro-bowl matter. It would make one conference have an edge over the other by offering the winner a 2nd bye week during the regular season. To do this you would have to make some changes. 1. The season would be 18 weeks long to include a 2nd bye week 2. There would only be 4 bye weeks instead of the current format of 6 3. On a bye week all of one conference plays while all of the other has off together The idea is simple, the winner of the pro-bowl is awarded bye weeks 7 and 13. These teams are only playing 5-6 consecutive games before getting a week off. The loser gets bye weeks 1 and 8. This in essence only gives them 1 bye and forces them to play a 10 game streak before entering the playoffs. It also delays opening day for them by a week allowing them extra time to prepare for the regular season. To a small degree that gives back some of the advantage given to the other conference. I think this would offer several positives. 1. Extra week of football on TV. More revenues for the NFL and more football for the fans 2. It motivates players to win the game 3. It motivates people to elect the best players to the pro-bowl 4. It improves viewership ratings of the pro-bowl and increases revenues 5. It reduces injuries for 1/2 the league Im just curious how this idea sits with you all. Do you like it, would you do something else, or do you think its fine as is and would not change anything?
I cant imagine opening week of football only having half the teams play. Can you imagine waiting all year and then having to wait another whole week to see your team because of a pro bowl? Marketing fiasco
I know, I hear what your saying. It was the only way I could think of to give one side an extra bye without returning it in the post season. P.S. It also adds to the importantance to win the probowl
Would be interested in hearing what players would have to say about this. I kinda like the idea, except for the week 1 thing.
