Where can I find a list of compatible USB storage devices that will work with the Ps3? It is possible to put downloaded movies, TV shows on the Ps3 and watch them? I'm only asking because I don't know how restrictive the Ps3 actually is.

i've stuck a couple of storage devices in my ps3 without a problem. you can watch a lot of different file formats from them. i don't think there are any restrictions on the files (except some wma) or devices.

No, there are some video formats that don't work also. But they are usually easy enough to convert.

Would I have to reformat anything or can I just name the files PS3--VIDEOS and it will recognize it?

Yes you would have to reformat if it were in an incompatible format.

any drawbacks to formatting a External HD? Have you ever formatted a HD? I know if I format it it will wipe it clean that is fine there isn't a lot on there but I'm not sure I want to format my 1TB HD to move750 MB-1 Gig files.

You could just format a partition.

Do you have a PC with Windows? I'm pretty sure that's all you need.
