Someone here was cool enough to donate me a Socom beta (I won't post his name because I don't know if he wants people to know - But thank you!). This great and everything except I can't stay online. Not even long enough to patch the game. I dunno what the ****ing problem is. I'm a pretty technically savvy guy. I know routers, computers, and networking. Right not from my Linksys wireless G, I have 2 PCs hard wired and 2 360s hard wired. I have 2 laptops wireless, and a Wii and PS3 wireless. Every console (and PC) in the house works FINE... Exept the PS3. It's only about 10 ft from the router. I even tried to hard wire it to the router. No luck. It'll connect, stay on for 5-10 minutes, then drop. Then wait a few and connect again. I've rebooted the router. I've even turned off all other devices besides the PS3. I've even manually added the specific IP address to the PS3 to make sure it wasn't an IP conflict. No luck. So, my question is.... Does anyone know anything of specific MTU settings, NAT settings, or port settings I should use to keep the PS3 running online correctly?
Mor I know just a little about this and I know that usually your NAT settings are the problem (a lot of people say to have it at 2). However because I only know a little bit I want to send you to the PlayStation Knowledge Center which I am including the link to with some basic answers. It has everything you would need from troubleshooting both wireless and wired connections to being able to search your own questions. This is a great database that every PS3 should know about and I've used it successfully many times. Also troll the forums over there for some answers if the Knowledge Center doesn't work. Here is the link: PlayStation.com BTW I have a good idea who gave you the Beta invite.
I had some issues when I first set mine up but haven't had any problems since. I ended up completely rebooting my wireless router, as in back to defaults.
mor the ps3 has a built in wireless router so u dont even need your Linksys just go your connection settings then easy scan and it will pick up your wirless connection
i know i had the same prob when i had my ps3 running to a Linksys wirelesss G router would stay on and would get kicked off alot but then i switched to the ps3 one and have had no probs
You would still need a wireless router to connect to. The PS3 has a wireless adapter but is not a router, or am I wrong here?
no the ps3 has a bulit in one u have no need for a wireless router to the ps3 if u have wirless connection
like i said all u do is go to connection settings east then scan and it will scan for your wirless connection then u select it if u have a pass code or anything put that in and your good
o i gotcha man if u got a wireless router sending out the wirless u have no need for any other wireing to the ps3 as it will pick it up
Alittle confusion here. The PS3 has a wireless adapter which means it can pick up a signal from your wireless router without directly wiring it to your modem. You have to have a router to send the signal.
Thanks for all the help. I really know networking well. I'vwe worked in the industry for years. So I am good at this... I've done home networks (side gig) for many people. I've never had this issue. Wonder if my PS3 is ok.
Ah oh. That's not good because every time Sony does an update (especially a big one like 2.43) someone's PS3 gets messed up. You could have a problem, Mor. So did the link I gave not help at all? Oh just seen in another thread that my link didn't work.
It took me to playstation's troubleshooting site. I went through a lot of port forwarding and stuff for the router. Nothing worked.
2.43 is only required to be updated with consoles in the Japan region. You can update it but you wont notice a difference. Any luck getting online? Also, i don't care if you tell who gave you the beta code.
If it was you blade I would like my name put first in the list for the next beta key you have to give away.
yes, Blade was the cool mofo who donated the beta code. And no, no luck getting online. It;s killing me.
Have you contacted SONY at all? I wish I could help more Mor but I bet the update is what screwed you up.
Question. When you start your PS3 does it disconnect your entire network briefly (ie: does your computer lose connection). There is an issue with setting your router up properly with IP's, Ports etc if you experience such with starting and shutting off the PS3.
