McCown is the new Frerotte. And that wasn't such a bad thing.

Yeah, Gus Frerotte was pretty okay considering the protection (or lack there of) he was getting from the OL. In spite of that, he still managed some decent long balls.
As for McCown; I enjoyed reading his perspective on the starting job. I hope he does well.
Unlike some, I really don't have a "favorite" for the job. I do not care who it is who starts - I just want it to be the guy who plays the best. And I want him to do his part in leading our Fins back to respectability. Now if our running game is strong, then whoever is under center will have a chance to find his comfort zone and confidence, and that's going to be important. -
I wished we gave Frerotte another year in Miami. He was only the most productive QB we had in years. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited when Culpepper came in. But Frerotte would have made a much better insurance policy than Joey Harrington.

Gus left when he saw the writing on the wall. Saban started chasing Brees and Culpepper and then let Gus know that he might not be starting the following year.

He was let go by three QB-poor teams. 7 years, three teams, couldn't hold on to the starting job with any of them. Detroit had him playing WR. Oakland had a good look at him last season and let him go a year after trading for him. Miami signed him for backup $$, and didn't have to compete with anyone else for his services.
He does have a great attitude. I hope he turns out to be a great QB. But his past performance indicates he's a journeyman at best. -
True, but in all fairness; AZ brought in Warner after one year. Detroit also brought in Kitna the same year. And Oakland brought in Culpepper and drafted Russell in the same year.
In all 3 cases he was passed over by a guy who had several years (and had been successful) in the league. Yeah I know Kitna's past successes could be debated, but you probably know what I mean. There was no way the Raiders were going to keep him, anyway. Between Russell's salary and what Culpepper would expect they couldn't afford to keep him, anyway.
The interesting angle is now he's the veteren QB on the team. So we'll just see how he responds. -
That's exactly the point. All three teams looked at him, and then brought in someone else. Could all three be wrong? Absolutely. But the chances go down that he's a starting quality NFL QB with each team that lets him go.
But I agree with you that he should get a fair shot, just like everyone else. And as I said, I hope he succeeds.late again likes this. -
