Every year I look ahead at the post season and see what teams are in the
hunt and the same constant is their QB play the winning teams are getting good to great qb play and the pretenders are not.
Lets look at this years teams....NE .. Pitt... Indy...Dallas...Seattle...Green Bay
they all are getting excellent play out of their QB.
This brings me to what miami should do with their first pick in the draft, they must decide how much better is John Beck then Matt Ryan or Brian Brohm.
Because until the QB position in this town is solved no coach will make much difference look at the NO Saints last year their qb single handedly took them to a conference championship game this season he struggled early and so did the team.
There is no secrete that good/great qb play makes a team so whom ever is incharge of the dolphins be it Mueller... Parcells or anyone else they must make the evaluation on the current QB's versus the draft eligable QB's and if the verdict is Ryan or Brohm is better than Beck in a draft where there is no
Deon Sanders no Bo Jackson and no Troy Aikman you should draft the QB that can be the building block of your team.

Big Ben won a Superbowl with a rating of 22 thanks to great defense and a great running game.
Manning is obviuosly great, but he had some trouble when he lost his LT, RT and his 2nd and 3rd receiver.
Romo has also a great line plus very good receivers.
Hasselbeck led his team to the Superbowl once. That year Alexander had his best year. Alexander had his best year because of his line...
What did Favre do last year and the year before?
I don't think QB is the key, one yes, but not the one. And I don't think it's the most important key.Last edited: Dec 15, 2007 -
Football is a team game, and teams win games not QBs. -
The most vital aspects for postseason success are pass offense and pass defense. That's what fans and analysts were overlooking last season when they ignorantly dismissed the Colts. Indy's rush defense may have been horrible but the pass defense was quietly vastly improved in YPPA and other significant categories. That's what gave Indy an edge heading to the playoffs and enabled me to cash a nice future ticket on them. They had a big edge on NE in YPPA Differential (offensive YPPA compared to defensive YPPA).
Similarly, a year earlier Pittsburgh was second in the league in YPPA Differential, despite being a #6 seed. The Steelers were only 1/10 behind the Colts. That looked like the real Super Bowl on paper and probably turned out that way.
Miami is woeful in pass offense and pass defense. We are 0-13 on merit. -

Its fans like this that don't get it. Until we draft a franchise quarterback we will never be in the playoffs again. I totally agree with the person that started this post. I wish more people would wake up. Hopefully Mueller won't be the one making that first pick for us because we don't need another kick returner to build our team around! -
By the way, how are the Bengals, Rams and Saints are doing? Not better than the Vikings, Bucs, Lions, Giants (they traded away a complete draft for a 'franchise QB', I guess), Jags and Browns.
Stop listening to the media overhyping QBs and start watching the game. It's won at the LOS on both sides of the ball, not behind the center on just one side.Last edited: Dec 15, 2007 -
It's the exact opposite.
The "GM" teams Miami has had have completely ignored the QB position and have tried to solve the problem with a bargain basement approach to the position rather than investing in ANY top prospects in over 2 decades.
They never even began to try and find their "franchise QB" until Mueller invested in John Beck this year.
The QB is in fact one of and arguably the most important position player on the field. He is the captain of the ship so to say. Yes football is the ultimate team sport but that captain runs the team from the head down.
Miami's ignoring of the QB position and their complete ineptness in drafting have this team where it is, not because of a franchise QB search that never happened. -
How anyone can discount the value of a top QB is completely absurd. -

All I can say is I miss Jay and that should sum up how the QB's have been since.

If you miss Jay then you definitely have low expectations for QB play. If we didn't have a top 5 defense back then we would of been 0-16 a few times with Jay Fielder. Thats the only reason he had a winning record here was because of the defense.
