Safety or pass-rusher come to my mind right away, but as far as specific players I really don't know. I haven't been following it that close, honestly.

I am completely done with 2nd round QBs...

Go big or go home. Grab the best available QB prospect... and thats going to be in round 1.

QB in the first, Tommy Streeter in the 2nd

Secure the best QB we can in the 1st round by trading up or whatever they need to do. Moore has shown he can be the caretaker while the young guy gets ready. After that, Safety help, a Right tackle and another TE.

He's very raw. Although I'm not an expert at players' draft stock, I've read that he would may still be available in the 3rd or later. However, considering he's a physical freak (6'6", 4.3 40) he may just destroy the combine and move up some.

RT or Safety. Those positions are huge.

This is an awful year for both positions, especially in the second round. Both will have to come from free agency, assuming Ireland does anything about either position at all. (He probably won’t.)

I can actually see another “meat and potatoes” draft, as Soliai, Langford, and Carey are free agents and Colombo won’t be back.

Streeter shouldn’t go anywhere near the 2nd round, IMO. Lamar Miller should be one of the first picks in the second round, though.

Streeter shouldn’t go anywhere near the 2nd round, IMO. Lamar Miller should be one of the first picks in the second round, though.

Regardless, I know everyone is caught up on the quarterback. Barkley, RGIII, Jones, Weeden etc....

But let's talk about the 2nd round pick. If we finish 6-10, or 5-11......where do you see us going in the high 2nd round if we take QB in the first? What would you like personally? and What do you predict happens?

I know there is a ton of time to go, combines, draft stock, juniors declaring etc.....but with all the talk about the QB and the 1st round pick, I want to gauge some of your interests in the later rounds.

I said this with all the QB threads, but it applies here too...Let's figure out who will be calling the shots before we jump to who we might take. For example, if a 4/3 HC comes in here, that could change our needs in the draft significantly. Who will be our FAs that we pick up by draft time, that will certainly affect who we take. I am certain that the guy that Cowher wants will be different than the guy Jon Gruden wants or the guy Jay Gruden wants or Andy Reid or Jeff Fisher or Pete Carmichael or Tony Sparano or whoever the HC and GM are...

Sick, the order in your example would have Miami move up one spot in the 2nd round, not all the way to the top of the group of teams with the same record. Just a small correction before Stitches beats me to it :wink2:

As for the 2nd round pick, I'm going to say we won't have a 2nd round pick since we'll be using it to trade up and get the qb we want in the first round. :yes:

I say we draft a QB in every single round this coming draft. We are bound to hit on one of them and then people can stop talking about how we ignore the position.

If I select a quarterback early, I am absolutely, positively looking for a stud tackle as soon as possible. There's the line of thinking that you can get a good RT in the late rounds or in FA, but I don't think it's valid anymore, and NFL teams have caught up with this development. Green Bay drafted a right tackle in the first round. New England drafted a right tackle in the first round. San Francisco drafted a right tackle in the first round. Dallas drafted a right tackle in the first round. Indianapolis followed the Anthony Costanzo selection with a RT. They certainly didn't do it because there are so many RTs waiting to be had late in the draft. They did it because RT, quite frankly, has become a premium position in the NFL. Teams (and we aren't talking the likes of Oakland or Cincinnati, either) are actively looking for top notch talent at the position. When you're looking at the big gaping hole that's the right side of our offensive line, RT absolutely becomes a priority, not just in terms of needs, but in terms of need and position value.

If I had my way the 2nd rounder would be getting shipped to whatever team wants to trade with us for Barkley...

Best value at a position of need , and trade up if the player is worth it.

Ideally a FS , edge rusher , RT , but get the best player fit wise and value wise.

Right tackles can be found later in the draft of in FA and the defense has been playing well. We need an elite offense to compete with the Patriots so we need to draft accordingly.

Dwight Jones is a guy I would love to look at in the 2nd round. At some point we have to start asking how long we really imagine this marriage between Miami and Brandon Marshall lasting, given his constant erratic behavior. Just this year he got in Vontae Davis' face about partying the night before a big practice, which is fine, except he threw a football right into Vontae's face and that's not fine. Then there's the cab incident. Whether he's identified his problem or not, he still feels like a ticking bomb and Dwight Jones has been a guy that's had me drooling since I started scouting T.J. Yates a year ago. He has the potential to be a dominant player. He already is one. As much as I love Justin Blackmon, I think the difference between Dwight Jones and Justin Blackmon is smaller than people think.

I think if you can get hold of Levy Adcock, Zebrie Sanders or Andrew Datko, you have to take a look at that. I haven't caught up fully with the OT position yet but those three guys have stood out.

Depending on what defense we're playing next year, I like Cam Johnson of UVA. He has a lot of potential to be productive in the pros. Explosive player that uses his hands, keeps working to get free, very strong player, ideal build like a giant linebacker. He won't play linebacker but if we're moving to a more static 4-3 front then you need to add a guy like him.

I'm not sure if Luke Kuechly or Manti Te'o will last into the 2nd round but if they do, and if Miami is moving to a static 4-3 front, then I would grab one of them. They might even shoot to the top of the list. I think Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett would make natural Sam and Will backers, but a guy like Luke Kuechly with his instincts could help the defense be truly elite. Te'o doesn't track the ball that well but his athleticism and size are a scary combination because he's not at all a straight line athlete. He can sit and explode like a tailback. Even if he overruns a play, he can recover. That's how Brian Urlacher was when he was young. But you look at all the tackles Te'o racks up and you can see that his gifts do make him very valuable to a defense.

If Mike Nolan returns and our aim is to keep the defense the same, and therefore we're re-signing Paul Soliai, etc...then I think you need to focus on the secondary and on finding a pass rusher. The safeties need work. Markelle Martin would be an excellent 2nd round pick. About as solid a 2nd round pick as you could get. But if you have it in mind that you want to move Sean Smith over to free safety, then maybe you want to take a look at Janoris Jenkins or Chase Minnifield.

Andrew Datko is a good OL. He's probably going to need shoulder surgery but he's worth the risk.
