Anyone here have any experience with these things? All my life I've had an interest in them, just never acted on it.
A couple of weeks ago I took my two year old grandson out to see them fly. He loves airplanes! Anyway, after we left the field I decided I would take him by the local hobby shop and pick him one up to hang in his bed room. I bought him a nice little 36" wingspan electric Decathlon. Looks nice hanging from his ceiling.
Well, I couldn't get those things out of my mind, so I went back and purchased an Eflite 25 J3 Cub. This thing is a beauty! It has a 62" wingspan and came almost ready to fly. Meaning I will need to put the motor and servos in it, plus a minor amount of building to have it ready. I had to buy a radio(Spektrom DX6i) to transmit the signals to the servos that control it in flight.
My son and I are going to start the build this weekend. Then we will have to get an instructor to teach us how to fly. Haven't been this excited about something in a long time.
Anyone else here have the bug?

My dad flew RC airplanes for years before I was born.
If you have any questions I can relay them to him. He was big on putting them together so specifically anything regarding building he should be able to answer.
I don't have the bug myself but to watch and I'm sure I could get into it but it is expensive and I already have too many expensive hobbies.

You are right! It is expensive. That is why I will get an instructor. I've been studying the manuals that came with the plane and radio.
Setup is going to be a fun challenge. There is really a lot to learn, from getting the center of gravity correct for proper pitch, to balancing the wings for proper yaw.
I also bought the Parkzone J3 Cub to use as a trainer. Once I get proficient at flying the big Cub, I want to move up to WWII warplanes. Specifically, the Spitfire, P51 Mustang and Japanese Zero.

:lol: That sounds right. I don't know! They sure are pretty though. I have a great appreciation for anything "Scale". These airplanes have a lot of detail and are as realistic as there big brothers (or is it sisters) they are just small.
The only mod I will make is putting 4 1/4" Tundra tires on it so I can fly it out of cow pastures.
