Bottom's Lines
Miami + 10 @ Giants- How will the Phins come back from embarrassing loss?
Indy +9 @ Tenn. How will Colts come back from humiliating loss?
St Louis +13 NO- Can Rams be worse than Colts vs Same Saints?
Arizona +13 @ Balt.- Win not in the Cards vs PISSED OFF Ravens at home.
Jacksonville +10 @ Houst.- Jags have a short week and go on the road. No 2 in a row here.
Seattle +3 Cinci- Give Seahawks a fair chance with Bengals going cross country.
Denver +3 Detroit- Fans will be Mile High. Can Tiny Tim tip toe through the Lions to kill hopes for #1?
GAME OF THE WEEK
Carolina -3 Minny- Two contenders go head to head. Panthers face elimination but give Vikes a good upset shot.
Looks like we could have 2-3 teams go Bottoms Up and empty in this race. Anyone care to pick the Winner/Losers?

I have the strangest feeling we're going to beat the Giants. No logical reason why, but the Giants (seeing them alot as I do) seem like the type of team that underestimates a matchup like this and comes out flat (see the Seattle game).
-
The Giants will kill any QB we throw out there.
-
The Giants are a team that sometimes really plays to the level of competition. The biggest with them is turnovers, which sadly is the biggest problem with our defense.
If Eli pulls an Eli and has one of his big TO games, we have a chance. If their offense is gunning though, we are in for a long day, and will probably lose QB#2. -
I remember when the dolphins lost a close ugly game to the giants in England during the 1-15 year so it won't be shocking if they keep it respectable this time but stll think ny wins this one.

UNDERLINE = SPREAD -
It sucks that the Colts, Rams and Cardinals all seem destined to lose this week. However, I think the Seahawks and Broncos could be destined to each add a 3rd win to the win column and that's a good thing.
We were talking about it in another thread, but if we get into some scenario where Andrew Luck is trying to decide his own fate like Eli Manning did, the two teams that seem like the biggest threat to assume the Giants' role in that are the Broncos and Seahawks. Both teams would keep Andrew out west. They both have good organizations and fantastic fanbases. They both have good owners. John Elway would be quite the draw for Andrew Luck in Denver, and I imagine that Andrew respects what Pete Carroll made USC into, since Stanford played USC every year. Both teams, the Broncos and Seahawks, were considered prior to the season to be possibly AIMING to Suck For Luck this season. If either team is picking in the Top 5, you can bet they will be lining up interviews with Andrew Luck, wining and dining him like a recruit, whispering in his ear that he could always pull an Eli Manning and they will happily give up the necessary price tag to get him.
And let's say that Miami doesn't get the #1 pick, but that the team that gets the #1 pick seems hesitant to use it on Luck because let's say it's the Rams and they already have Sam Bradford. Those other two teams, the Broncos and Seahawks, will still be the fiercest competition in a trade-up scenario. The higher we pick relative to them, the better equipped we are to be the team that can make the best offer. -

Don't see any other top 5 picks than these ....
Miami (0-6)- @ Giants, @ KC, Wash, Buff, @ Dallas, Oakland, Philly, @ Buff, @ NE, Jets
-- our best shots are KC, WAS, BUF X 2 and maybe the last week against the JESTS (record dependent) -- will guess we beat WAS and maybe BUF)
Indy (0-7)- @ Tenn, Atl, Jags, Carolina, @ NE, @ Balt, Tenn, Houston, @ Jags
-- best shots are TEN X 2, JAX X 2, and CAR .... they should win at least 1 game (guess split TEN and JAX)
St Louis (0-6)- NO, @ Zona, Cleve, Seattle, Zona, @ SF, @ Seattle, Cinci, @ Pitt, SF
-- best shots are CLE, SEA X 2, ARI X 2 ... they should also win at least 1 game with Bradford at the helm (guess split SEA and ARI)
Arizona- (1-5)- @ Balt, St L, @ Philly, @ SF, @ St L, Dallas, SF, Cleve, A Cinci, Seattle
-- best shots are STL X 2, CLE and SEA ... they should win at least 1 more game (guess split STL and SEA)
Minny- (1-6)- Carolina, @ GB, Oak, @ Atlanta, Denver, @ Detroit, NO, @ Wash, Chi
-- best shots are CAR, OAK, DEN, WAS ... they should win at least 1 more game (guess WAS and DEN)
The way i see it ... even if we win 2 games, i think we still end up with the #1 pick - as our conference record will be the worst of all the potential 2 win teams, unless we win 2 games in conference which i doubt (less KC, who is better than their record and is about on par with BUF). Point is we can't win more than 2 games AND we can't win 2 games in the AFC in order to have the #1pick. -
A few new tidbits- ESPN has Indy at #1 with a 33% chance, and Miami #2 with an 18% chance.
Phil Simms is saying that there is no way Peyton will allow Indy to take Luck if healthy, and will insist they add players to go for another title. -
I like Simms. I hope he's right. Was he basing this assertion on "inside info" or just a hunch based on his general knowledge of Peyton?
-
The theory that the Colts would trade down to acquire pieces for one last SB run is a good one. Their o-line sucks and their secondary is worse. They could trade down ONE SLOT with us and we'd give them their choice of Vontae Davis or Sean Smith, the #2 overall pick and our 2012 second round pick. Hell, I'd throw in our 2013 first rounder, but I think they want to win NOW. Maybe throw in anybody on our WR corps too.
-
-
All that matters is fewest # of Wins, and then SoS% (the lower % the better) is the only tie-breaker for draft position; that's it...! All teams tied with #of Wins, do rotate throughout the remaining rounds but for round 1, we want the lower SoS % if tied for Wins.gafinfan likes this. -
-
Right, Southbeach. IF they get the #1 overall pick, and IF they decide to trade it to make one last Peyton Manning run, they'll want players + picks. Their secondary is absolute garbage and we've got two young guys who can cover (Vontae and SS). We'd likely have a first round pick high enough where they can get the best offensive lineman in the draft.
I'd happily trade to move up one spot to select Luck:
-2012 #1 pick (likely #2 overall)
-2012 #2 pick (likely # 34 overall)
-Vontae Davis
-Any other player on our defense not named Sean Smith or Cam Wake -
It's all premature speculation at this point GH, although from very credible sources. We have an advantage in good young players, who are not getting paid much, as Indy is tight on the cap.
I'm thinking what we would have done in the same situation with Marino. Hard to imagine us taking a QB. NOT hard to imagine Dan's reaction if we told him we were going to. LOL -
Premature speculation is all we got when our team sucks!!!
Good analogy with Marino. Is Bill Polian a heartless bastard, or will he "do the right thing" for the QB who has made him and his team MILLIONS of dollars? -
i think Polian #1 has to protect his team ... and #2 at least give the 'impression' that he'd consider picking Luck for leverage.
Big Dog, got it on the SoS piece ... that most likely won't work in our favor, albeit - i think the JILLS are over-rated and who knows what will happen with the JESTS ... hope .500 for bothBigDogsHunt likes this. -
The betting odds for getting the #1 pick are Indy at 3-1 (bet $100 to win $300), Miami at 7-2 tied with the Rams at 7-2 (bet $100 to win $350). The rest are 6-1 and higher.
-
I like to Indy to get in the win column this week. Miami and St. Louis are hopeless.
-
-
Supposedly Manning has a real good relationship with ownership in Indy and if they can reassure Manning that his job is safe even with Luck on the roster I could see them taking Luck if the chance presents itself. That would be the ideal scenario for all parties as Luck wouldn't be forced on the field and would learn behind one of the best. Its time for them to start grooming Manning's eventual replacement and give the Colts a great insurance policy on the bench. This is something I wish the Dolphins would have done in Marino's later years. If the Colts did decide to trade the rights to the first pick or to draft and trade I wonder if the Colts would be more inclined to draft Luck and then trade him for a kings ransom like the Manning, Rivers trade?

Green is wins, red is losses.
Miami (0-6)- @ Giants, @ KC, Wash, Buff, @ Dallas, Oakland, Philly, @ Buff, @ NE, Jets
Indy (0-7)- @ Tenn, Atl, Jags, Carolina, @ NE, @ Balt, Tenn, Houston, @ Jags
St Louis (0-6)- NO, @ Zona, Cleve, Seattle, Zona, @ SF, @ Seattle, Cinci, @ Pitt, SF
Arizona- (1-5)- @ Balt, St L, @ Philly, @ SF, @ St L, Dallas, SF, Cleve, A Cinci, Seattle
Minny- (1-6)- Carolina, @ GB, Oak, @ Atlanta, Denver, @ Detroit, NO, @ Wash, Chi
The others don't matter since they already have 2 wins. This leaves Miami at 1-15, Indy at 2-14, Rams at 3-13, Zona at 5-11, and Minny at 2-14. Right now I don't think Indy is as bad as they played vs the Saints and are good enough to beat the Jags and Panthers at home. Washington right now looks like the only winnable game on paper for Miami. Rams have an easy road the rest of the way, as does Zona. Minny should win a couple of the easy home games along the way. -

Both teams (Indy and Tenn) got beat down last week. I think Indy gets its 1st win.

How do you not see Cam not throwing for over 400yds against the colts terrible defense?

No starting QB wants a rookie/slated starter of the future sitting behind him. Do you really think Peyton wants to teach and coddle a 22 year old kid? Have to watch his back until the day it becomes productive for the organization to dump his *** and let the young kid play. Not really... Brett hated Aaron Rodgers and did nothing to help him. He's still taking shots at him to this day. I'm not saying the colts will pass on Luck for that reason... However things could get messy in Indy if Luck is chosen.
Could you imagine Marino if Miami had drafted a QB in round 1 at any point? Guy would of gone postal. It basically means "We're giving up on this current team and building for the future." Manning won't accept that ****... Especially will Blackmon, Jeffries, or Richardson on the board. -
I think the issue isn't "Manning doesn't want the Colts to draft Luck because he doesn't want another QB on the roster". The issue is more like "Manning knows that if they traded the pick, they could get a ton of players/picks that can make the team better in 2012 and win another Super Bowl".
There's a big difference. -
Shame in hindsight, and Peyton should know better in the big picture, but cant blame him.
The smartest thing INDY could do is what GB did....you have to turn a deaf ear to your current QB and set yourself up for the future.....then you can use any other pick and FA signing to help the incumbent. -
P.S. I dont think Marino would do anything to prevent or preclude today's regime from fixing all our problems......but I would venture a guess a small part of him LOVES knowing he was the last great QB and his name stays relevant in the Media when ever the LAST GREAT QB of Miami is discussed.
If we get Luck, I think he sees the writing on the wall, that he will always be loved...but he may not be the Dinnertime conversation as often so to speak. -
That said, if you had the chance to win a SB now, you do it... Why should Peyton give a flying **** about Andrew Luck? He's QB'd Indy for 14 years. He put a Superbowl trophy in that stadium. He's a sure fire hall of famer, one of the GOATs, and if his injury isn't career threatening, still capable of winning another if they put the right talent around him.
Look at Reggie Wayne's reaction to Kerry Collins joining the team... And he was upset about Curtis Painter not getting the gig. Imagine how he, Clark, Collie, etc... are all going to feel if the organization takes a step back and drafts a player for 3-4 years down the road. They're going to riot.
And Caldwell is probably getting **** canned too. If a new guy is brought in, do you think he wants to draft Luck? Or do you think he wants to give Manning more toys to play with to get a SB? Or help Manning out by building a defense with a ton of Luck traded picks?
As fans, it makes sense to look into the future. For players and coaches, the present dictates everything. Win now or find a new job. -
For anyone to suggest that we have a snowball's chance in hell of pulling out a win against any remaining team, The Redskins included, is mind blowing to this poster!
After the debacle of the last 3 1/2 minutes against TIM TEBOW, are you kidding me, and now the resulting finger pointing at eachother (both coaches and players) we will go 0-16 no sweat! There is a very real possibility we could lose our QB this Sunday against the Giants and then its on to JP. Boy oh Boy!
As BDH pointed out the SoS% is not our friend at this point though it could be later on! Both the Rams and Colts LR's seem to be firmly holding together at this point and still playing hard which is a plus in our favor imho. -

A friend just told me that on ESPN yesterday Colts GM said Peyton will play this year. IF true, that seems a very risky thing to do. Maybe they want to check out the recovery from the neck injury before planning their future. Hard to know what to think.

1 team in NFL history has gone 0-16.
