Apparently Tom Cable hauled off and decked one of his assistant coaches a couple of weeks back. No criminal charges were filed, but should the commish do something about this? It seems hypocritical for him to look beyond this but continue to suspend players for infractions that amount to less than this, no?

The only thing I can think of is Buddy Ryan going nuts on Kevin Gilbride while both were with the Oilers. But that was barely a fight and no bones were broken.
And the commish has stated previously that he doesn't care what the court of law has decided, he rules seperately from that. I doubt anything happens, but I would be interested to at least get Goodell's take on it. -

The NFL should do something about it, if we're going to suspend and fine players, why not coaches? They should be held to the same standards.
Where the discipline should have started is with the teams front office... But Al Davis will never do such a thing, he's too insane... -
If only he would have struck Al Davis. Davis would disintegrate into dust.

If you click the link and read the entire article, it states that NFL security is investigating.
I'm going to go out on a limb here (not really) and say the downpresser man, Roger Goodell will in fact take action if as expected, felony charges are filed against Cable. Just a couple of years back he suspended a Cowboys' Asst Coach for buying illegal steroids. So I'm pretty sure he'll have no problem suspending Cable for a felony assault.
On the other hand Davis might be smart to fire him.gafinfan likes this. -
you raise an interesting point Sam. breaking another person's jaw in an act of anger is a seriously awful thing to do. whether he felt his authority was questioned or whatever the case, that was handled wrong. at the end of the day, he is just an extremely well paid coach of a game. one with little pressure and expectation on him. he should be held accountable. if plax, vick or donte cant handle illegal activity "in house" neither should he.

I never thought it would be possible but I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Raider's fans.

If the man broke the law, aka a broken jaw, he should go to jail! As to the NFL I'll leave that to Roger the dodger!
