Why trade the pick when you can address one of your needs with a premium, NFL ready WR?

 

They wanna see what offers they can get ,then decide when the time comes, we have to have a proposal for #2 and #3..

I still think if trading up becomes necessary for RG3, it's going to be Washington. I see RG3 as precisely the Dan Snyder type of player (that is I think he will conclude he can sell more tickets with him so that will dictate their draft).

 

If Washington trades out of the 6 with the Rams, I say make a move with Minny or Tampa to get Blackmon.

 

Cleveland has the ammo from the ATL trade last year to make moves to go get RGIII and still have plenty of picks. Yea that trade worked out great for ATL didn't it.

 

The only QB we should be trading for is Luck. If RGIII somehow falls to us, we need to trade down to the team that wants to st heir franchise back by trading up for the guy.

 

I would take RG if he dropped to us, in a heartbeat..

An this is the beginning of the biggest liars club of GMs. That kind of talk is just guys covering their tracks. The Rams can't possibly know who they would take at #3 since they don't have a GM, don't have a HC and haven't seen these guys up close yet (combine, pro days, etc). All that and they can still trade that pick down or trade up. Even if they had made up their minds, there is no way they'd let that info out.

I wouldn't count any blog info as gospel this time of year...

 

I don't think it's too far a stretch to project that the Rams have more important priorities than QB because they have Bradford, but I do agree it's hard to say anything about a team without a GM before the combine has even happened.

 

I guess a GM could come in and put out his *** out for sale..shake it up a bit..I could see myself doing that for RG3

 

Yeah a trade up to #3 seems feasible...It kind of puts pressure on St. Louis not to drop back 1 more spot for Blackmon, it would be like walking away from free picks and players.

 

Everyone here wanted us to keep on winning when it meant nothing, well here is your team.. drafting at 9 with no ability to get a top QB and we are going to get a second string coach as well. I hope you all enjoyed those wins as they screwed this franchise once again for the next 4-5 years..

Our only real choice is to get Flynn now in free agency and hope hes legit..

Which is the other issue for the Rams, their scouting reports and draft work, and free agency work will all be the stuff the past regime created, unless Fisher poaches some Titans scouts, and uses their stuff, the mechanics of this is going to be difficult.

You have no way of knowing if that is true. We could take Tannehill or Weeden, and either one could turn out to be a top QB in the NFL.

All this bullcrap around here that Luck or RG3 are the only hope of getting a top QB in this draft, is really quite amusing.

 

people are hoping for another Cam Newton w/RGIII and I just don't see it. yes, RGIII is a very exciting player and would upgrade our wins every year, but IMO, he's closer to Vick than Cam Newton. Exciting player, will win us some games, get us to the playoffs, but that's where it ends.

I'm not looking for just an improvement, I want the QB that can help take this team beyond just a first round playoff game.
watching that bowl game, RGIII was exciting, but at the same time, getting smashed on multiple plays. He won't be able to sustain from that kind of beating in the NFL.

I'd rather take the chance of Flynn w/the risk he doesn't live up to the hype than RGIII and hope he develops into a QB that can make those tough passes into tight windows while under a pass rush.

 

I had to read this twice to make sure you were serious. We had no real shot at the #1 pick, so you should just let go of that theory.

And following your logic, if we screwed the franchise, wouldn't we have another opportunity next year to draft the #1 QB since our team is going to suck so badly?

Also, I never realized the NFL was so predictable with new head coaches and QB prospects. why even bring in these other prospects now that Fisher is going to St Louis. Let's just rehire Tony because we have zero shot to improve with coaches like Zimmer.

RG3 has still not OFFICIALLY declared....he has to the 15th, but since it was rumored he would declare, the whole RG3 posse/hype machine has gone silent.

IF, he ends up NOT declaring, it throws a huge wrench into things.

 

Didn't he get married or something? He's definitely declaring. If he's not, then he's an idiot.

 

Anything is possible....why the wait? if he is declaring, unlike all the others that have done so, why wait in submitting the paperwork and making it official?????

Get it official, move forward. Waiting gives him an out!

Jeff Ireland isn't trading picks away, he's an arrogant prick that will sit on all of his picks. He'll draft another bust in the early 2nd round dont worry.

 

I just don't like the risk/reward of trading up for RGIII. He's a player who has excelled, but 70% of what he does will not translate to the NFL. I think you're almost drafting him blind. I look for specific things in my QBs. RGIII may have them, but I just can't tell with him. His game is just too different. It's like looking at a good doctor and trying to decide if he'll be a good lawyer. You know he's smart, but the thought process will be completely different and you haven't seen him do it.

 

Or actually make a trade , it is possible. We've signed 2 CFL players , maybe 2 more? There are a couple CFL players that could make this team , adding four and not using any draft choices would be a great start for a new head coach imo.

This is one where we disagree on..

I feel the player has such a high upside, he's worth the risk..There are few players where I will take this philosophy, and he is one of them, I will not be ashamed to be wrong on this player..The kid manipulates the ball with such a great arm,and has such a package of intangibles.

Bottom line Raf, I will not stay away from a QB prospect who is a..

1} Supremely confident human being..

2} Elite athleticism..

3} QB vision

4} Phenomenal arm/w/touch

5} franchise needs one

I would probably even take Tannehill above him. Here's the problem for me. With most QBs I can watch a few situations and be very confident about what they'll do when pressured in the NFL. I believe that there are two general situation categories for prospective NFL QBs, what they'll do when things go right and what they'll do when things break down. If a QB can produce when things go right, they can probably be an NFL player. That generally includes the standard things you see in most evaluations. If they can produce when things break down then they can be an elite NFL QB. My confidence about their odds of becoming that elite guy dictate whether or not I would use a first round pick on them. With RGIII, I have no doubt that he can produce when things go right. He has plenty of arm talent and he has great timing. I do worry about his frame and lack of pocket awareness. But what he will do when pressured is a mystery. At Baylor he never has to read the defense so I have no idea if he'll make the right read under pressure. He is in a timing offense more than any QB I've ever seen. I can't recall a single time that I've seen him scan the field and go through any kind of a progression. So I don't know how you can say he has QB vision. Now I haven't watched ever snap or anything so maybe he has done it, but until I see that situation I don't feel comfortable saying that he'll be an elite QB, even potentially. I've seen too many guys who are confident, athletic and have great arms fail to come to any other conclusion.

 

RGIII is much more similar to Newton than he is Vick by the way. He's actually more accurate then both guys, not as elusive as Vick, more straight line speed.

That being said, I'm not saying RGIII will be as good as Newton. Just saying his skills more match Newton then Vick.
