Looking for a little input from the draft Gurus on Ramses Barden as one of the mocks I have recently seen has us taking him with our 1st pick in the second round.

    Huge receiver @ 6'6" and 230 lbs.

    Year Rec Yards Avg TDs
    2005 40 655 16.4 9

    2006 42 824 19.6 5

    2007 57 1,467 25.7 18

    2008 49 996 20.3 13 So far this season.

3 things work in his favor in that he is a 4 year starter, steady production and increase in production and he is friggin huge.

Head office has already shown not only in our previous draft with Kendall Langford but also in previous drafts with the Cowboys and Giants that they have no fear in selecting players from small schools.

I have never seen the guy play and this is the first I have even heard of him. Any of you guys have an opinion on him and whether or not we could target him next year?

I've not seen Cal Poly so I can't comment. I DO know that he almost declared last year but that the NFL advisory committee projected him as a fifth rounder so he decided to go back.

Wow... named after a condom....

Parents named him after the failed condoms that led to their surprise kid?

I've seen a few Cal Poly games and I'm pretty impressed. Barden literally stands out during their games. He knows how to use his size to bully smaller defenders but I wonder if he can have similar success in the next level because, well, Weber St. and Idaho St. are probably a notch above a high school team. But I wonder if his speed and size will maybe project him to a TE. He looks like he has the frame to pack on some pounds and he's a pretty damn good blocker for his weight class. All I saw him do were simple quick out, go, hitch, and drag routes so I wonder how he'd fare with more complex routes.

One of those guys you really, really, really have to see in some All Star practices and games before you know. But, when you do see him, you should be able to tell a lot about him as you could with guys like Marques Colston, Brandon Marshall and Kendall Langford.
