Gotta love Ray.He always plays hard and can carry the load. I would of liked having him here too ,but it just was'nt the right year to draft him IMO.
He was drafted in the second round with the 55th overall pick and Miami did plan on taking him if he fell to them. (Read this somewhere forget where though)
The guy has to be a problem in the locker room. For such a good back he was traded out of Buffalo to Baltimore and now reportedly will be on the outs there. Either he is a problem or teams find him very replaceable.
I believe I read that somewhere on the Miami Dolphins forum. I pretty sure they wanted him with their first pick in the 3rd round but since he didn't fall to them that is why they traded down with the Lions. Not sure if its fact or not but its info. on the situation.
I just saw Ray play tonight and he did ok. I'm sure Mcgahee isn't losing any sleep worrying about Ray taking his job.
He could be a problem but I doubt it. Ray Rice may fit their system better because he is very physical and a better pass-catcher than McGahee as stated in the link. Also, Rice is MUCH cheaper.
Ray Rice had six carries for twelve yards tonight versus the Patriots in the pre-season opener. McGahee was inactive due to a knee injury I believe.
According to Gil Brandt, Parcells was only disappointed with missing out on one pick, a running back taken two spots before our pick. That only happened once in the draft. Ray Rice was taken two spots before the Henne pick.
I heard or read that somewhere too. If Rice fell to 57, I wonder if they really would have taken him over Henne...? That sure would have changed a good chunk of the debates and discussions we've all been having this offseason (plus it would speak volumes about their faith in Beck). But, I guess we'll never know.
if its a RB better than Willis McGahee, you cant ever regret taking that player, no matter where he is taken.
Damn, that raises some good questions. I thought Henne was good value at 57. If we take Rice at that spot, we're talking about Beck being the future.
I trust Gil Brandt here more than just about any other reporter. Not only was Brandt considered a football guru in his own right but he is friends with Parcells going way back. So if he says that Parcells wanted Rice at our pick I believe him. Also Rice was one of those guys we paid a lot of attention to before the draft. He was clearly somebody we were interested in. So it just all makes sense. As for Henne, he was a guy we liked and he was good value where we took him, but I think he was our fall back option. There was another report from Brandt (he's on Sirius radio) early on that Parcells really liked Beck. This was corroborated by a report that Wolf (another long time Parcells friend) had given Parcells a positive review of Beck after they watched the Cincy game together. And it goes along with Hyde's inside sources that the team wants Beck to be the starter. There was more stuff but the point is that I really think that those debaters that questioned the Dolphin's faith in Beck were really way off. Beck may or may not succeed but the organizations internal evaluations of Beck were quite high.
I agree completely with everything you said. I believed they liked Beck all along and that there was never any "he's-not-a-Parcells-guy" dilemma. But, with that in mind...Say we draft Rice there in the second round...what would that imply about their thoughts on Ronnie and Ricky? Yes, Ricky is one failed test away from being done forever and Ronnie is coming off a major injury, but the fact that they waited 4 more rounds until they looked at another RB makes the situation confusing. Add on the fact that Parcells "loves" Ricky now, and I get a little worried about Ronnie's future years here. We all have heard that Parcells believes in late-round rb's and has talked about them as if they were interchangeable parts. I wonder how this will play out for our very talented, but sometimes injured, former 2nd overall pick. Scary Anyone else see this as a future debate?
I definitely see it as a future debate. I've been worried about Ronnie's future here ever since they hired Parcells. With the talented players you can find in the later rounds nowadays, I can see Ronnie being expendable for a draft pick. If he continues to get injured then I'll be really worried. I believe Ronnie has the talent to be successful in this league as it was displayed last season but the injuries are killer. The guy has had bad luck with injuries but if the staff and FO grow tiresome of him constantly being injured, I think he is on the outs.
I can see a a future debate. But I think the desire to draft Rice, other than the fact they just had him rated high, was b/c they didn't trust RW. They seem to love him now but it wouldn't surprise me if RW left (or retired) when his contract was up. I think that's after this season. If that happens then that lessons the odds for a future debate over RB.
