Redskins Remember Sean Taylor

A really good but sad article in the link below. Talks about how good of a person Sean was despite the bad rep and how he helped out others.

As a safety at UM and with the Redskins, Taylor was celebrated for his intimidating persona and punishing tackles. He played a violent game and died a violent death. Yet those closest to him say Taylor was a gentle, shy man who loved nothing better than reading to his daughter, tending his yard or fishing. Greater than the satisfaction of NFL victories was the delight he took in helping his great-grandmother with chores, like mopping her floors or escorting her to the grocery store.

He was a homebody. He trimmed trees for his relatives, pressure-cleaned their roofs, without being asked. And he could relate to children on their wavelength. He went out of his way to sign autographs for kids, or give them his gloves, or even a $100 bill. Neighborhood kids invited him to their birthday parties, and he'd show up and play musical chairs or dance the hokey-pokey.

Chris (Horton) mentioned to me earlier about how emotional a lot of the players were during practice. Taylor's death still reverberates a lot among his former teammates. Expect an inspired team against the Giants on Sunday.

Chris is going to be an awesome player in the NFL in my opinion. He's a playmaker in the secondary despite still being raw in coverage. That's awesome that your friends with him and while he doesn't know me, shout out to him for me as I'm a big fan of his.

He certainly is already a good player and that burst of clutch picks early in the season was nothing new to Bruin fans. Saddling up to another rising safety like Landry is doing wonders for the Skins. UCLA has a great tradition of producing good safeties in the pros and he's one of em. One of the perks of being an student athletic trainer and later tutor I guess. I'm sure he's always glad to get some props from a fan. :up:

“They always talk about him. All the time. There was a lot of guys he meant a lot to,” said defensive end Jason Taylor, traded from the Dolphins to the Redskins on the first day of this season’s training camp. “I’ve heard a ton of stories. Everyone’s told me how much I would have liked him, how much I would have loved playing with him, the kind of guy he was.”

Horton, a rookie, has learned plenty about Sean Taylor the safety. Horton, after all, now starts at that position for the Redskins.

Even though Horton has seen his predecessor show up on video quite a bit while studying for future opponents, there is still a chill that arrives each time.

“We see film from early last year,” Horton said, “and he pops up, and you’re like, ‘Man. God. He just laid that guy out.’ He would go from here to there so fast.”

In those images, Horton said, “He’s definitely around. He’s part of everyone’s lives.”

Horton noticed the locker at the team’s practice facility on Day 1 - and he makes sure to sneak a peek whenever he’s in that room, “trying not to make it obvious,” he said.

“Every day, I still do walk by it and take a look,” Horton added. “It just lets you know how precious life is.”
