Would love to keep him in Miami, but only if it makes sense for both sides

 

Im all for him staying. I think he is a terrific back.

 

i like reggie a lot, and for a decent contract, would love to keep him. That said, if they're planning on not re-signing him in lieu of Dtrain and Miller, we had BETTER start seeing Miller used more on gameday to get a feel for what we truly have with him

 

I think that Bush and Thomas showed yesterday that they are more than capable of forming a formidable committee. Reggie has some injury concerns, while Thomas has disappeared for stretches, so it may not be sustainably awesome as displayed yesterday, but the talent is there for sure.

Take a pay cut, and we will talk. It is a premium though at this point in this Franchise, to have a player that wants to be here. That is definitely a positive.

 

What do you have in mind? He's making 4.5 mil this year, and I think that's actually just about, right.

I think his overall skill level (NOT skill set) is a bit above Michael Bush's, who signed for 4/14 mil last offseason.

Reggie B is the only real gamebreaker on the roster, you'd like to keep that type of player

 

I'm a big Reggie Bush fan but it's a plug and play position. If he demands big money I wouldn't hold it against whoever the GM is for spending the money to address more important resources, even though the fan in me will miss Reggie should he go off to play somewhere else.

 

I think Lamar Miller can give Miami what Reggie Bush is giving Miami this year. He just needs the opportunity. I think Reggie is expendable personally. If I were GM, he wouldn't be making $4.5M per year in a future contract.

 

You could be right, and as a UM alum, I'd like you to be right, but we really need to see Lamar play if we're going that route. His lack of playing time is why I think Bush will be back, but who knows?

 

I'd be all for it if he's willing to be put in a Darren Sproles-type role and be paid like it, while someone else gets the carries at starting running back.

I'll take reggie of Lamar every Sunday. No offense to Miller but Bush has shown big play making ability and has carried games on his back. Sure Bush hesitates hitting holes sometimes but if the line opened holes better that problem would not matter.

 

Hope that he does stay as he has been good for Miami so far! Great fit for him!

 

I don't see how the money or the role is going to work out.

You can't trust Reggie Bush to be a week to week performer, and he can't really play within the scheme. Is he going to take less money to stay here? Are you going to re-sign him and still not have a featured back you can trust?

 

I'm all for keeping him around. The guy is a great football player. I don't think he's a featured back nor will he ever be, but I do think he's a guy that can get about 20 touches a game both rushing and receiving. He's got big play ability and I don't know whats not to like at this point. I think we should keep him but only for the right price (on both sides). He certainly helped New Orleans win their super bowl and I think he can be a part of our team going forward. I'm all about keeping Reggie Bush in Miami. I do think Lamar Miller needs some touches too in all of this, so that really seems like thats the only problem (and a minor one at that). If Bush wants to stay in Miami i'm sure Philbin will find ways to get him involved in the offense even with Thomas and Miller getting carries. It will have to be a running back by committee which i'm totally fine with as long as we are moving the football.

 

You keep your talented players if at all possible. Reggie is unquestionably a talented player.

 

We need players who can score from anywhere on the field. If we run him off who do we have that can do that?

 

How often do those plays really happen in from the running back position the NFL, and how much do you think defenses really have to consider that with regard to Reggie Bush?

I'd say Chris Johnson may be the only player in the league who forces defenses to consider that possibility, and even he rarely reels off those plays anymore. There is just too much speed on the field on defense for that to be a consideration with regard to the running back position IMO.

 

And that's why I'd like to keep him, but I think he's talented only in a limited role. Over and above that role he becomes a liability too often IMO.

 

Reggie's done it several times. It is rare for running backs these days, we have one of the few who can. We should try to keep him if possible.

 

Well you don't want to throw him a swing pass 4 yards behind the line of scrimmage necessarily, like that one play on Sunday that resulted in a loss. You have to be smart with the plays where his number is called. To me, that would involve using him more in the passing game.

Having said that, having 6.2 yards per carry tells me the coaches were pretty smart with Bush's plays on Sunday.

 

Agree 100% with this exact sentence(s). He's not a featured back nor should he be paid like one. However he has an extremely unique skillset that is something I personally don't want to let go of. I still think he could be an all purpose freak without being the go to back. I think it would benefit him health wise as well. 11-12 carries a game and he needs to be targeted on some screens atleast 3-4 times a game. Thats right about 15 touches a game for him (which is what I would try to give him if I were in charge). The way I see it he's good for atleast 2 big plays of 20+ yards with 15 touches. We could use him the way Atlanta used Warrick Dunn back in the day. Dunn had a big back next to him in TJ Duckett to change pace and split carries with.
Chargers had an all purpose back in the 90's by the name of Ronnie Harmon who used to just absolutely kill us every time we played them. Guy was an all purpose stud for like five years in San Diego and he did it behind Natrone Means. That is how I see us using Bush in the future if we keep him.

 

Sign the man! He can be a game changer and will probably accept a decent pay check. We have two young stud Rb's in the stable so keeping Bush means they know what they have, and can fill some of the 40 something other needs....

 

I'm all for keeping our current Rbs intact for at least another season. If used correctly, DT and Reggie are a great duo with different styles. Lamar can keep improving on his blocking until he's ready to play. Reggie has been great for the Dolphins, his leadership would be missed.

Well, tbh, with the NFL going the way of the CFL, more spread formations etc, you need Rb's with Bush's skillset to make it work.

 

Yeah, let's release him and spend that 4.5 million on so many other free agents just like last year... oh wait...

 

As far as money goes you look at his production numbers and offer him the right amount of money to accomany those numbers and throw in incentives for him if has a big year. Thats fair and if he wants to be here he will take that deal. Something I really like about him is his ability to keep on trucking till he gets to the endzone. Everytime he gets the ball he is a threat to score.

And further to that point, I don't even think Reggie Bush lives up to the type of player people think he is. Basically, he's overrated in terms of big play ability IMO.

Darren Sproles is the guy people think Reggie Bush is. USC Reggie Bush is the guy people think NFL Reggie Bush is.

I don't think teams respect Reggie Bush any more so than they do about 15-20 other RBs in the league.

He's a nice player, and I like having him on the team as there is no one else with his skillset on the squad (hopefully Lamar Miller will be that guy), but if he's asking for a 3+ year deal at 4+ million per year, I can't see retaining him.

 

I do not agree. When is the last time you seen Reggie Bush go uncovered?

 

I don't think that necessarily means teams fear or respect him. I don't see Daniel Thomas go uncovered out of the backfield either. Neither did Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams
