If accurate, the man has truly earned my respect.

He may just get my season ticket renewal....

all right, time to dial back the praise just a bit:

Per the Herald, Ross will do the renovations in exchange for the county taking ownership of the stadium and releasing Ross/the Dolphins from responsibility for property taxes, upkeep, etc.

The loss of property taxes will cost the school system $1.3 million per year; $1 million to Miami gardens (which is a cesspool as it is) and $24,000 from dade County Public Libraries.

    And those were bad deals.

Not sure it's worth compounding with another bad deal.

And quite frankly, something stinks. Ross would have to own the team 100 years for the tax relief to equal the outlay. It doesn't seem worth it from Ross's perspective, as a businessman

If the county owns the stadium wouldn't they then receive all the revenue from parking and concessions? Id so I wonder what the offset ends up being.

Ross is already donating all his net worth when he dies, lol.

Basically, he's paying 400mil in upgrades and is only asking for a few mil from tax payers if that's the case. He doesn't want to have to pay $400mil PLUS have to pay over a million a year.

This is way beyond fair.... it's practically a donation.

    How is it a donation?

Because we might get a Super Bowl once every ten years?

I don't know. there would be a lease where all that stuff is worked out I imagine.

If there is a way to offset the lost money, so it doesn't cost schools, then I'm all for it

It's a fair deal, no additional taxes on public. The money can be worked out between the contract parties, the county and the Phins. Fair.

I don't see much benefit to the county here, but that's just me. Unless they're thinking that this will bring Super Bowl week back to Miami, and are counting on an economic bump from that.

The Canes are probably pissed off as well.

And we get a MUCH nicer facility to enjoy games, concerts, and other events at.

You could just raise the millage to gain back the $1.3 million in taxes that were lost. That seems like I much easier pill to swallow than everyone who was complaining about paying for $400 million in taxes (even though it was really going to be funded by hotels and such).

No they likely wouldn't. The lease would entail those going to the Dolphins. The county wouldn't want to get into the business of parking and concessions. Not worth it for them.

Yeah, that one SB generates a lot more tax revenue than the county would be losing.

Wonder when it might start? Would this offseason be too soon to do some of it? They really need to get that seating done and closer to the field before anything.

No. Stadium renovations aren't going to add much value to the franchise. Its like buying a boat, just not a good investment.

This is bitter sweet for me..the fact that there just isn't the vision to completely capitalize on the 12 the man movement and stadium design relationship, but....any improvements to the morgue is just that, better..

I've always known Ross to have the right intentions, it's why I don't and have never bashed the guy, just felt like he would do anything for us, to bad a lot of folks have prejudged him based on things that don't really matter in the scope of being a good owner.

I'm happy for the renovations,(but deep down I know their missing the boat, but that will now be something I need to move on from)Miami will now get super bowls again, and have a better atmosphere for their players and fans to connect and create at least a better energy to perform than what they currently have, which is the worst in sport, which in turn WILL start to repair the culture, and help in building a new one.

I really truly hope those blueprints were accurate, the ones where they at least had the corners of the end zones cut and filled in at the angle that was shown,it's so so important that this isn't just an esthetic makeover with pretty paint, upscale restaurants, bathrooms and other fluff.

The whole four hundred mill should be all about moving and cutting concrete.

I absolutely love how they plan on installing four large screens in place of corner upperdeck sections...paint the seats blue..

As is, sun life is a cancer, on it's own it keeps people from attending, and it keeps sporting events from coming there.

The new renovations will change that a lot, thus adding to it's value..

With the renovations you know you can compete with the other venues as far as world class events go, without these renovations, you can kiss those things goodbye, so in that sense alone, it increases it's value.

You guys. Ross, the nfl and the county aren't dumb. They must already have assurance from the nfl that there will be a Super Bowl (probably multiple) in miami if they get the renovations go through. Say want you want about ross. He puts his money where his mouth is

anyone else think that with the movement of the pro bowl to after the Super Bowl that it gives the super bowl city more time to shine?

super bowls now or even more $$$ making than they were ten years ago.

I'm excited for this, selfishly for the one game I come down for each year, and also for what it could mean - hopefully - to the game day atmosphere and home field advantage for the team. If anything, the partial roof should make it louder.
