That could have good and bad impacts. Superman needs more action than SR, but it shouldn't be too plausible like BB and TDK.

I'm a little tired of Lex also. He should only have a background or cameo at most.

Nolan needs to worry more about finishing what he began with Batman. -

I'd like to see a 1940s/1950s era Superman.
Faster than a speeding bullet - but not so fast he can turn back time
Able to leap tall buildings - That's leap, not fly.
Stronger than a locomotive - Not more powerful than 50 atom bombs.
Superman's powers have expanded to the point where he is godlike and he either has to battle other godlike beings or ye olde cliche ridden used eleventy gazillion times already kryptonite has to come out of the closet.
In his current form superman is just too powerful to create drama. -

So, if they're set on making a movie (and, again, I agree with Desides, I wouldn't make one in the first place), you're left with the following options:
1. "dumb him down" to Golden Age Superman, which is a great idea except that audiences would be like "uh, WTF? I thought Superman could lift objects the size of a small planet."
2. Bring back Luthor yet again, and hope that Chris Nolan can find something new in a character that's already been played by two of the best actors in recent memory. (Fwiw, I loved Kevin Spacey's Luthor, even though having him work with the cast of Superman Returns was like Dan Marino on the '88 Dolphins.) Unfortunately, if this thread is any indication, audiences are sick and tired of Luthor.
3. Use Doomsday, setting up the inevitable "Superman dies at the end" finale that leads to a sequel where he comes back to life, hopefully skipping over the Four Supermen storyline. This actually strikes me as the most likely with Nolan involved. Superman ain't exactly a grim n' gritty character, and if that's the direction Nolan wants to go (and it obviously is, that's his bread and butter), killing the dude off after an insanely brutal fight is about the best you're getting. -
i don't know about y'all, but i think Nolan needs to worry about the Dolphins defense, before he goes out trying to make Superman movies... :shifty:

As far as the villains go, Brainiac, under Nolan's guidance, could be very interesting. -

David Goyer to Write the New Superman Movie!
Latino Review has broken the news that David Goyer will write the new Superman movie, to be titled The Man of Steel!
The site's scooper said that Goyer "had an idea that actually takes the movies back to the John Byrne incarnation. Modern. Believable. FUN!"
The site adds that Brandon Routh will not star in the film and Bryan Singer is not expected to direct.
About the story, the scooper adds: "I can tell you that Goyer's story involves Luthor and Brainiac. It is NOT an origin and assumes audiences already know about Lois, Clark, Jimmy and Perry. I know the Daily Planet is struggling due to the internet. And I know it sets up a huge Kryptonian mythology."

Glad they're dumping the yawn-inspiring cast and hopefully this time they can come up with an unknown with a personality.
Introducing Braniac to the screen is a great move, but it's disappointing that they're dredging up Luthor AGAIN. Jeez...if you're going to reboot, can't you be a little original? -
If you are gonna go for a gritty realistic reboot, i think Luthor is pretty much the only character you can choose, apart from teh fact he is superman's best villain, a shady business man playing puppet master and pulling strings from behind is probably the best choice. Its not like batman, whose host of villians were all somewhat plausible as batman doesnt have the strength of a god to help him, all of superman's villains are pretty much absurd for the most part. I think the bigger mistake is the tfact that they over saturated Luthor in the first place rather than selecting him again.

Similarly, Braniac could be that fresh factor for the Superman franchise. That character has never been used as a villain on film, and would separate this reboot from all previous Superman incarnations.
