Would it even make sense now to do this trade? I don't think so.... http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/2011/09/27/addressing-the-palmer-to-fins-speculation/
Would have been ok with this at the beginning of the season, absolutely furious if it happened now. Sparano and Ireland have made their beds with Chad Henne. Lay in it and REAP it. The next regime picks the QB.
I like Carson, but at this point I dont want to give up anything that would prevent us from drafting a qb in rd 1 and moving up if needed to get the one we like. I remember many thinking Weedon may last til late 1 or into rd 2 due to age. I disagree if he keeps playing like he is, he will be the 4th qb taken IMO. I would rather draft a qb in 12 that we can groom and is elite then hope Palmer still has the fire and is not past his prime especially not playing in a year
This would be a move that Jeff Ireland would make in an attempt to save his job.....i.e.....a poorly thought out one.
I don't think Carson Palmer at this stage of his career, already committed to retirement and having nothing to do with football since last season would be an upgrade over Henne at all. He might even be a downgrade. And I'm not real high on Henne right now either.
I have no desire to see Ireland make any trades which would cost the Dolphins future draft picks. I would prefer to stay with the status quo for the remainder of this season and let the new GM who replaces Ireland after this season have access to as many draft picks as possible. He certainly is going to need them. I would much rather the Dolphins use their first round pick on a QB than waste a pick on Palmer. Palmer was a good QB when he first came into the NFL, but he has been barely average for the last three years.
You got to feel bad for Henne, just like with Sprano this organization has put him in a tough spot to succeed. It's hard to instill confidence in a young QB when your bosses are always window shopping to replace you.
Then do it more discreetly and with more urgency and planning, I mean how many QB's have we kicked the tires on to only then pass on them? And they are sloppy attempts too, the whole issue if I'm right with Orton was he killed the deal because he didn't want to restructure his contract, Ireland should have found this out first before diving in.
I'm not a stats guy RB, did take a glance at Henne's numbers and was surprised, 60 ypg more, he is on a pace for 4,400 yds, or more, his ypg have went from 220 to 280, his QBR is up to 82 from 75, really difficult for anyone to not say he has not massively improved, even his YPA is up to 7.8 from 6.7. At this point, I simply cannot rationally see how Palmer would be that much of an upgrade.
Henne is a grown man who is well paid to play a game. I don't feel bad for him at all. He has had two seasons plus three games this year to show that he is the answer at QB. So far he has shown that he has a strong arm and can play well for a period in each game. He has also shown that when the team needs him to take them on a drive at the end of the game to win. He consistently fails to perform. What he has clearly shown over the past few years is that he is not the type of QB you can rely on in the clutch. After this season he will sign with another team, because the Dolphins new front office will not resign him. He will then become the backup for the team he signs with and being a backup QB in the NFL will be what he will remain until he finally retires.
Exactly pads, so why bother? It seems like they have no plan, it's where ever the wind takes them. They are clueless on how to run a team. Good for you.
