And considering that there is now the technology to reprogram differentiated cells back into stem cells, the possibilities are endless. Nice find bro!
I recall that there had been preliminary gains in synthesizing blood which would also eliminate the ethical controversy over stem cells.
Well, just saying that blood is a lot more plentiful and easy to harvest and create than stem cells. Meanwhile, stem cells have a lot more significant uses than to just be turned into blood. It's sort of like if I discovered that there are oil reserves on the moon. It's like, yeah, but there's more of it on earth, it's easier to get to on earth, and it would be astronomically (pun intended) expensive to drill on the moon.
Very cool, but I don't see anything coming of it anytime soon. This is still a capitalistic society at it's roots, so unless there's (more) money to be made off it (than is already being made), it's only going to be a nice 'ooh, look what we can do' type thing. I worked the business the past four years, I should know. Use may start in 2010, but it won't be even a small factor until 2015 at the earliest IMO. Nothing happens fast in blood donation/collection unless somebody dies and the press can't be controlled.
