Good read. To address the last bit of the article though, about the Pro Bowl being moved ahead of the Super Bowl, this might be Goodell's worst idea yet and he's had some terrible ones. While it will probably serve to increase the ratings for the game how many MORE players, especially those IN the Super Bowl do you think are going to drop out of the game now? I can see in some cases going to the 2nd, maybe 3rd alternate just to fill the rosters.

I don't quite get what you mean by that. Obviously the Pro Bowl is slated to be BEFORE the Super Bowl next year. THat's official. And you would figure that at least a few of the players on the two Super Bowl teams would be in the Pro Bowl. And obiviously if you're in the Super Bowl you're not going to play in the Pro Bowl. I mean look at the Cowboys last year, how many Pro Bowlers did they have like 12 or something rediculous like that? It's late and I don't feel like researching stats. Anyway what if all of them pulled out because they were in the Super Bowl? It's a terrible idea that can only end poorly

That's my whole point. Several Superbowl players definitely will be in the Probowl and if they're not going to play in the Probowl because they're in the Superbowl, then the Probowl would be useless, even more than it is already :D, so I'm saying that I think moving it to before the Superbowl would be a really dumb idea. ;), though I never heard mention of that before.

Okay so we're in agreement. But yeah, Roger Goodell in his infinite patriot loving wisdom decided hey, I know how I can **** up the NFL schedule EVEN MORE! Not only will I make them play in London, Canada, Mexico, Afghanistan, Antarctica and Hell, I'll put the Pro Bowl the week before the Super Bowl. Seriously how much longer is the douchebag gonna be commish?

Lots of times guys who played in the Super Bowl opt out of the Pro Bowl or throw 2 passes like Warner did -
Does it matter? The NFL is such a business now that any Commissioner is going to be a slave to owners who'll want to suck a dollar out of any possible avenue they can find.

My thoughts exactly, none of the SB players will partake. Due to the nature of game, American Football is the only major US sport that needs to have its All Star Game after the season and not during it.
I can understand the rationale as he is just thinking of how much money he can rake in by bringing it to the mainland to fill up the stadium and maybe other events held in concert with it, also tied in with everyone already being there for the week before anyway. It actually makes sense from that angle and a cost cutting move too for the NFL and also the players.
A friend's husband plays for the Vikes and AP took him and the rest of his fellow OL and blockers to Hawaii last year. Cost AP about $30K, doubt it would have cost that much to go to Tampa this year or Miami next. Also it is not as if the average rune can easily get to Hawaii to see the game and now it opens it up more people to be able to attend.
I don't have a problem with it being held at the SB site, and maybe it will work the week before even with 2nd and 3rd alternates this year, this year there were 4 Cardinals and 3 Steelers that would definitely not played in it but there are 30 other teams to draw from. I do think that for it to be a true all star it needs to be the week after so everyone has the option to play.
I started my post really disagreeing with the idea and have now talked myself into understanding it and being ok with it. LOL -
I think the players will hate this as in Hawaii, they have a very private portion of the island where their hotel/beach are. Guys love going there as it is a place to be able to hang with the "best of the best".
From a business perspective, makes total sense for the NFL to do this. The Super Bowl hype will get into full swing with this game and the game will get a lot more attention as there will be more media there to cover it than out in Hawaii. The game now is almost irrelevant due to being after the season. Will still be irrelevant in regard to the outcome, but more people will be interested given that the Super Bowl has not been played yet and therefore the season is not over. -
No one is going to want to play in the Probowl if they're in the Superbowl. It's too much of an injury risk. Teams aren't going to want to jeopardize their best players getting hurt on a meaningless game when they have the most meaningful game coming up. it will make the Probowl that much more meaningless than it already is.
