Well we have to field someone there... just dont make any desperate trades, this season may not be worth salvaging after everything has gone down so far the last few weeks..

 

Tannenbaum now probably wishes he'd have made an offer to his old friend David Harris.

 

Wonder why Perry Riley is still on the street? I think I'd prefer him over Maualuga.

Actually the Dolphins parting with Misi was a rumor, he's on IR.

 

RM is a run only LB at this point, he's still good at that, but that's it, a run down specialist, but he'd be pretty cheap.

 

Again man, you do realize that cap space is carried over from year to year now, right? The space not used in one year isn't just going into Ross's pockets. It was set aside in order to resign Landry, James and other players next spring. Now, we'll have a harder time doing all of that. If and when those players walk, will you be signing the same tune?

 

Wonder why Perry Riley isn't visiting today. Sounds like he's actually the better fit, a year younger and possibly should be our #1 targeted LB. I'm I missing something ?

More surprised if the Dolphins didn't..........

 

When I asked about him before, someone (I forget who) told me that Riley was a 3-4 MLB only, and would be a square peg who wouldn't fit well into a 4-3 defense.

 

Actually I think its more the opposite. Played poorly 3-4 ...4-3 with Raiders was very solid...

Walters had him 4 best MLB, FA...

Perry Riley was once a good player for the Redskins, but he regressed because he wasn't a good fit in the 3-4. Thus, it was not a surprise that Riley thrived in Oakland's 4-3. Riley is a well-rounded player who is solid against the run and also not a liability in coverage.

This isn't Madden man, you can't just throw money at everyone in the off season to stock up your roster. There's this thing called a salary cap. There's giving your roster guys the opportunity to develop, and grow, and play if they've earned it. There's picking a guy in the draft and letting him play, which is what we've done. He got hurt. It happens. You can't go and sign top talent at every position, and every depth position and expect to be under the cap, or have a happy locker room. You're off base here again. You just have to roll with your own guys sometimes because of that thing called a salary cap.

agree completely. the MMQB due to injuries by some here is ridiculous.

 

The Miami herald is reporting we just signed Maualuga to a 1 year deal.

Reported to be the vet minimum for a 9th year player at $900,000 in base.

 

I like this signing

 

Me too, I like how the staff is doing their best to try and fill these spots we've lost to some unfortunate injuries.

Like Riley better but RM at $900,000 pretty good if hes healthy

and only $80,000 guaranteed if we need to drop him...

Even the cap worriers can be happy (salary cap hit $615,000)

 

Hope he has some of that old style kickass still in him and not just another hole to fill at some point in the near future. But the coach supposedly knows and he doesn't cost much...

Wonder what was the problem with Riley.....seems to me to have been a better upgrade with some coverage ability (never hurts) that could hang around for maybe a few more years and make one less hole to fill. But it looks like this staff are just good old natural hole fillers ..lol

 

Well we already know we're gonna be 0-2 vs the Pats next year, so we have to win 10 out of our remaining 14 games.
Having this much of a liability in coverage, and such a liability in run-stuffing when he's out of the game, the Pats will pass when he's in the game and run when he isn't. Easy Pickins.

 

Or, on the flipside, maybe our DL can put so much pressure on fast enough that they can protect Rey's liability in pass-coverage.
We're honestly looking at having a bottom 10 LB core in 2017, so if we can have a top 10 DL then we could maybe average it out. However, our bottom 10 secondary won't help either.

 

He will be subbed out quite often. I don't know what's giving you the impression we are going to have a bottom 10 secondary this year. Cart before the horse I guess.

 

We have a better secondary than you are giving credit for. They are somewhere in the middle of the pack.

It is a no lose situation. If he does well, we got a talented valuable player dirt cheap, and if he sucks, we cut him. He has two games to prove he still has what he did in his prime.

 

I was talking about Maualuga being a no lose situation.

You were very clear and your opinion makes 100% sense...

He was just guaranteed something like 60+ thousands (peanuts), if it doesn't work out. I also like the fact he maybe alot better prepared, conditioning and health to last years drop in production.

Not sure if Rey still plays STs, but I think he had a rep as good STs guy... and our STs was a cluster**** last week. If he can come in and provide LB depth and STs contributions it helps.

 

The dude is a load, he can neutralize an OG for a sec or 2, he occupies space on the D side of the ball and can rock ball carriers.

vs the run he's Darth Mal.

This is what you get with him, perhaps with his new work out regime we might even get a little more than that.

Either way, even if we only get Darth Mal, it's a bargain at 900k for a run specialist of his caliber.
