I think overall Ronnie is the most versatile back out of the two. But I'm glad we have both!

Age notwithstanding, Brown is the better all around back. While Ricky is a pounder, no doubt and has shown he has the ability to be elite, I'd still take Ronnie, all things being equal. Both have pedigree, both are pounders, both are everydown backs. However, Ronnie has an added element in his pass catching ability and his vision in the open field over Ricky. Ricky blows people up, almost scaring them into not tackling him while Ronnie does all that but in addition he carries guys on his back for a few extra yards on nearly every tackle attempt.

It's a real toss-up. This conversation would be very interesting if both were 25 at the same time, but then they probably both wouldn't be on the same team if both were still 25...HULKFish, gunn34 and dolfan7171 like this. -

As for this season, I think it'll be a tale of two half seasons. I think RW will carry the load early in the the season as RB continues to rehab and get back to football shape. Then as the season wears on, RB will pick up the bulk of the carries and workload until we get to playoff time... All bets are off come that time. If anything, if things go well this season, and we are in the playoffs, it'll be largely because we can run the ball when we want to run, making us that much better in the playoffs...

When healthy, Ronnie is one of the best backs in the league. Ricky is at the age where he can't handle the load anymore, but in his prime, he was one of the best to play the game.
I think we have the best 1-2-3-4 punch in the league, when healthy:yes:unluckyluciano, BayAreaFinFan and HULKFish like this. -
I picked Ricky because I can't trust Ronnie would be healthy this entire season. So in that aspect Ricky would help more.

Ricky.
I would take a brick wall over a sheet of glass on the football field every time.gunn34 likes this. -
In their prime, Ricky. No question about it. Now, realistically Ronnie because of the wildcat.

Ronnie or the Black Demon Black Visor..
I would take ronnie, because of his overall talent, and ability to execute a whole scheme within our offense.
The great thing about this is we don't have to choose, these two are becoming a 2 headed monster that are totally connected mentally..
What an incredible collection of talent...
I look forward to seeing them both get signed so they can stay that way..
Man I love our offense....Were stacked.HULKFish likes this. -
Brown, and it's not even close. RW showed last year that if used as a full time back he has a few good games and then wears down. I don't see that as much of an advantage over a more injury prone Brown. Brown is unquestionably the more talented guy right now and a game changer. I believe that even in their prime it's debatable as to who was better. When he was optimally used by Cameron, Brown was on pace to have a better season than RW's best season, so while durability has to be considered, I think it's debatable as to who was better. IMO it's mostly about individual preference. Regardless, the question was "who will help the team more this season" so I'll go with the better player, Brown.

if you're asking who has the better chance to help this team RIGHT NOW, its ronnie. It's Ronnie by a mile. Rickys lack of production in the final 3 games had a lot to do with us losing all three of those games. Henne was forced to put the ball up way more than the offense was built for last year and we just couldn't handle it.
And as rough as this may sound, one thing should also be noted here. When Ricky is our full time back, we have never made the playoffs. When Ronnie managed to stay healthy, even if it only was once in his career, we DID make the playoffs. Ricky is and has always been a powerhouse, but that kind of offense doesn't win football games in this era of football. -
I'm not sure how Ronnie can be labeled the more versatile back. Last season, Ricky averaged 7.5 yds per reception, Ronnie was at 7. If you look at the ability to change a game, Ricky was the one who made bigger plays last season.
This is just my opinion, but I would be a lot more worried if Ricky went down for the year, as opposed to Ronnie. -
I just voted Ronnie, and it tied the vote at 18 a piece. Not surprising that it's as close as it is, as both backs are very good and quite valuable to this franchise. IMO, they compliment each other.
FYI, I based my vote on if I only had one to pick, which one would it be? And, the answer is Ronnie. -
Ricky in his prime with no rolling papers in his pocket.
Ronnie hands down right now! -
if injuries weren't a concern, Brown hands down... frown clown town...
ahem, sorry, anyway ricky is a great 2nd back to have, but at this point in his career too many carries will lead to him wearing down fast...
in their primes again if injuries weren't considered itd be close, ricky has the full season track record that Ronnie never got, but just watching a healthy Ronnie you can see the talent there... -
Ronnie is the better overall RB IMO .I think even Ricky recognizes that.
Ronnie has more power ,he has better hands,he is a better wildcat player and he is a better blocker.
Negatives:He does have a tendency to dance too much looking for a hole and his speed does not always translate to Tds.Plus his durability is still in question.
Ricky is one the better sideline runners in the league even today .He is not the same back as he was in his heyday 2001 IMO.In those days he could pound a defense to submission .He has lost some of that power.
I think Ronnie could be a pounder too but offenses are different now and he hasnt been given the opportunity to show it.That could be a positive as there is less wear and tear on a RBs body. -
I would be considerably more worried about losing Brown than Williams. In the 8 games before Brown got injured Brown had more rushing yards than Williams in 6 of them. They had equal yards once and Williams had more yards once. And Brown has always been considered the better receiver. The one staff that used him as a receiver was Cameron and Brown was averaging 5.5 rec/g and 10.0/per that year before the injury. Both numbers were better than Williams has ever posted. IMO the fact that Brown isn't used as a receiver more is the fault of the coaches and not reflective of the player talents. So I would be considerably more worried about losing the more talented starter than I would be about losing the less talented back-up.
-
when Brown is heathly he is easly the best RB on our team
-
The season Cameron was the coach, Brown didn't have a single reception that was caught 5 yds past the LOS. He put up gaudy stats on a team that won one game the entire season. If you're going to bring up numbers, look no further than Ricky's last season, where he had more rushing yards than Ronnie Brown has ever had in a single season.
Last season, Brown may have had more total yards when he was healthy, but Williams was the more effective back. In regards to the starter/back-up argument, look no further than what Parcells and Sparano did in Dallas to get an idea of what is happening here. -
Brown couldn't lace Ricky's football cleats
Brown is a TandemBack prone to injury,
one step above mediocre & infinitely below
the once in a decade phenomenon,
uniquely talented Ricky Williams
Williams is a Franchise RunningBack
a Proven Bull, the RealDeal, the Beast
& has carried the Franchise on his back
Ronnie simply does not have this capability
there is a major difference between the two
in talent & durability. it is what it is...
but I'm glad to see him back on the field,
when running Tandem w/ Ricky he looks like a ProBowler.
hope he stays healthy throughout the season
run ricky & ronnie run!tinytown50 likes this. -
Id say Ronnie, but its not by much. Where Ronnie I think is better is as a receiver, and probably as a blocker too.
-
Hopefully Marshall negates the need for the wildcat but until we start making big plays without it, Ronnie is far more important to this team. I may be alone here, but i think Miami might have made the playoffs if Ronnie hadn't gotten hurt. (i know, "if' this, "if" that) but really, aside from pennington, what was the biggest difference from the 2008 playoff team and 2009? Ronnie Brown. -

just hope Brown has healed up enough
to get through the season @ TandemBack
they work well together, he compliments Williams
& we need to get something for him in trade after 2010
it is what it is: even in his last years @ RB
Brown couldn't lace Ricky's football cleats -
He's one of the most dynamic backs in the league and prior to injury, one of the most dangerous players in the league with the football in his hands....not to mention one of the most entertaining.
To the rest of the NFL and it's fans........Ronnie Brown running the WC is the face of this franchise.Ozzy likes this. -

Ricky in his prime scared everyone.
Ronnie in his prime scared a few.
These days I would be cool with getting a great season from R&R collectively.
We need them both folks. -
truth is: I'm a serious fan of Ricky Williams
had a man-crush on the guy since his college days
having said that
must admit that Ronnie is a tremendous talent
& he runs best in tandem, especially w/Williams
together w/Polite plowing the way for them
they constitute an elite NFL running game
maybe the best...would be great to see
the three of them explode onto the field
leading the way to a Miami SuperBowl
& although time is running out in the backfield
they could do it in 2010 behind the Orca-5
I love this team beyond comprehension
we will contend in 2010:
run Ricky, run Ronnie & stomp them into the ground Lou Polite -
Ricky scared the entire sideline but he is way past prime... -
not according to the critics & pundits of the game. not according to Bill Parcells or last years results
the Tandem from Hell will blaze a trail into the record books this year behind LouPolite & the Orca-5 -
Two glaring things a RB should do. Ricky has done both.
