Some have been saying that R & R need to step it up for Penny to be successful and/or that Penny will help them to do that. I looked up some stats, and was very surprised. In 08, Ronnie ran 214 times for 916 yards, a 4.3 avg, and 57.3 yards per game. Ricky ran 160 times for 659 yards, a 4.1 avg, and 41.2 yards per game. In 10, Ronnie ran 101 times for 433 yards, a 4.3 avg, and 54.1 yards per game Ricky ran 78 times for 336 yards, a 4.3 avg, and 42 yards per game. Both combined for 1575 yards in 08, and are on track for 1638 yards this year. Hard to belive that the stats are almost identical. Yet, Penny had a MVP type year in 08 with that production. The competition was not the same but, he had Ginn and Cam, as opposed to Marshall and Hartline. Just a little food for thought.
Pretty similar...now all we need is for one to have a game where they rush for 140 with 5 touchdowns.
Now check their rushing stats with Henne at QB. Aside from a few games last year and maybe one or two this, it's been pretty subpar. I do think we'll see A LOT more rushing attempts now that Penny is in though. He needs them to have success on the ground if his playaction is going to be effective.
In 09, Ronnie ran 101 times for 433 yards, a 4.3 avg, and 54.1 yards per game Ricky ran 78 times for 336 yards, a 4.3 avg, and 42 yards per game. This was 8 games worth of carries in 09? EDIT: I see, I think you put 2009 instead of 2010. That threw me off.
In 08, Ronnie had 10 rushing, 0 receiving. Ricky had 4 rushing, 1 receiving. In 10, Ronnie has 2 rushing, 0 receiving. Ricky has 1 rushing, 1 receiving. We also had a little Wild Cat going n in 08.
What are their stats on first down? Edit... looks like I'm wrong () Ronnie in 2010: 48 carries for 265 yards, 5.5 avg Ronnie in 2008: 108 carries for 448 yards, 4.1 avg Ricky in 2010: 47 carries for 178 yards, 3.8 avg Ricky in 2008: 88 carries for 401 yards, 4.6 avg 2010 total 95 carries for 443 yards for 4.66 avg 2008 total 196 carries for 849 yards for 4.33 avg My next question after looking at these stats... why is Ronnie splitting carries with Ricky?
Ronnie had that one big 50 yard run. Aside from that, they are very close. Every pre-season we are looking forward to both running for 1,000 yards. Those expectations are over.
I believe Ricky also had a long run in there somewhere... point is, you can't take away those carries.. the stats are what they are... until the coaching staff realizes that Ronnie should now be getting the majority of the carries, this RB carousel will sputter along inconsistently, just like our offense. And to think putting Pennington in is going to somehow make the ground game better... against more 8 man fronts... just go back to the beginning of 2009...
Penny did not make the running game better in 08, despite having the Wild Cat running wild. The much easier half of our schedule is upon us. You have to believe we will be better, much like 08. Will this be because of Penny? Would Penny have been any better than the 4-4 record Henne got us vs the TUFF teams. That is debatable.
I'm not sure if we're going to see the 2008 or 2009 results with CP at qb... The coaches think it'll be 2008 all over again.
Now all we need is the coaches to give them the ball more than 11 times in a game, and more than 3 times in one half.
Our D, and WR's are much better than in 08. Penny has 5 teams he should be able to pick on. Anything less than 6-2 is unacceptable.
