In 07 when we need a Running Back Ricky came in and faced the Steelers on Monday Night football, he got in a couple of carriers until his season was cut short by a torn pectoral muscle. He had fallen down and James Harrison stepped on him and turned and ran, that was enough to take Ricky W out for the year even though Ricky did try to play a few more plays. At the time there were those who thought it was merely an accident, that Harrison did not do that deliberately. After watching the Super Bowl and seeing James Harrison's reprehensible sucker punches thrown on a down on the ground Cardinals special teams player, it is pretty clear not only is Harrison a dirty player, it seems clear to me that stepping on Ricky was a deliberate decision on his part. Harrison is moving his way on up the Bruschi/Ray Lewis meter IMO.
agreed. that guy is a POS and i thought it was intentional immediatley.....he stepped out of the way to step on ricky.....i was rooting for the cardinals after that play just in spite of harrison and that douche play where he slammed that guy down like he was a thug
My mistake, I really did think it was Harrison: http://www.truveo.com/CantMiss-Play-Ricky-Williams-gets-stomped/id/3280871002 Looking at the video, it was Harrison who made the tackle.
Yes, Harrison's quickly becoming a dirty player in my opinion also. He should have been ejected from the Superbowl for what he did, you don't punch a guy in the back while he's laying on the ground, that's cheap and dirty play.
I'm pretty sure that is wasn't Harrison who did that. I think it was Lawrence Timmons. EDIT: Yup, it was Timmons.
I've thought it was deliberate since it happened. I thought it was really obvious. The guy is dirty. EDIT: Okay, so it was Timmons. It was still deliberate. And Harrison is still a dirty player.
That was blatantly obvious. I remember when Dr. Z on SI.com talked about how he had obviously stepped on Ricky on purpose. Scumbag.
Harrison didnt punch anyone in the back of the head. hitting and punching is 2 different things. the reason why he did it was because the blocker tried to take a cheap shot on him. if Harrison was on our team we would all be praising him saying the blocker deserved it for taking a cheap shot.
What is with those guys with the last name Harrison. James is dirty, Rodney is filthy and Marvin pack heat. Oh those crazy Harrisons
Cheap shot or no (I personally didn't think it was cheap, but maybe they have a history), Harrison had him on the ground, then when they play was way away and the blocker simply stood back up, JH hit him. More than once. Illegal and dirty. At the time of Ricky's injury, I thought it looked like it could have easily been avoided and hence, intentional. Most of the time guys come over the pile like that they hurdle or dive. JH went right in leading with his cleats. Maybe not quite dirty, but outside the norm.
Anybody else think there might be a trend here for #1 & #2 defensive teams? Like Pitt & Balt? Harrison & Ray Lewis? My bigger question is: has the NFL fined Harrison for his cheap shots? I've heard nothing about any fines being handed out, and they've had enough time to do it IMHO. If they don't, then the trend here is GoodHell favoring his top tier franchises like Steelers & Pats.
the last few years the NFL has let a lot of this thug behavior get out of hand IMO. They praise hard hitting safties and guys that lead with the helmet when they tackle. Hits like the one on Boldin that broke his face, Ray Lewis spearing Ricky with his helmet, and stuff like Harrison is really turning me off the NFL right now.
I didn't see anything wrong with what Harrison did in the SuperBowl, it was a punt return, one minute your rushing the punter, the next you're blocking the guy who just blocked you. He let Francisco get up and then knocked him on his butt. Good clean fun.
total Madden over reaction... thrown out? It was a marginal penalty call... he gave him a forearm to the back, I've seen much worse not get called. I dont think he stepped on him on purpose. I have no problems with the actions as long as they stop when the whistle blows and dont get out of hand.
The Ricky tred on by Timmons was intentional (nobody runs like that), only imo it was to stop him from getting up to recover the fumble - Still dirty. The Harrison "push" (as I see it) didn't have much in it. Truth is he was trying to look tough but was too weak to plant Francisco face first in the dirt. At least that is what it looks like he was trying to do. He became pissed off at his inability to do it so pushed him over once he relaxed his position - Small ***** syndrome.
Uhhhh what were you guys watching? Harrison didn't just push the guy, he pushed him down and repeatedly clubbed him in the back and wouldn't let him up. Even if the blocker did come at him from a bad angle or hit him funny, there is no excuse for that.
If all three were in their prime, I'd take them all in a heart beat. I know that James is in his prime though.
I can see him holding him down, I can see him forcing his body weight on the guy using the palms of his hands. I don't see a punch, I do see something that could be misconstrued as a punch. I definitely don't see him repeatedly punching him. Unless he had two similar altercations with Francisco.
He hit him twice in the back, unless we're talking about different plays. Once with the left and once with the right. Then shoved him down again. Even Madden and Michaels were like 'Wow thats extremely dirty, has no place in football, and he should be ejected immediately.'
Yup, someone called in to Sirius NFL radio this week about the harrison incident in the super bowl. The called claimed it was because the arizona player had attempted to take a cheap shot on harrison to the midsection... after the somewhat failed attempt, that is what prompted harrison to retaliate by taking a couple shots at him. The refs must have simply called harrison for his retaliation, and left it at that. The hosts on sirius at the time (i dont remember who it was) all agreed, and called it a non issue or something along those lines.
Upon replay it looks like it wasn't malicious. His own teammate is right there and it appears he had to step over his own teammate and it just so happens, Ricky is on the other side. At least from that Gif. In that case, I'm not so sure I'd label him dirty ...
