People can say what they want about Steve Ross , but Im pretty proud to have an owner who decides to take the initiative and start something like this. www.risetowin.org Please take a moment to visit.
I think your supposed to separate your fandom and look at the bigger picture in this case.... I think...anyways. Guess thats just me
Is this another one of those feel-good initiatives that aims to "raise awareness" for some nebulous societal problem while not actually accomplishing anything of significance? Please pardon the cynicism. Sent from my SM-G360T1 using Tapatalk
racism is some nebulous societal problem? I guess Im disappointed that some think this is a joking matter. The thread was created to highlight an initiative to highlight how sports can do allot to combat racism in our country. Judging from some of the responses so far...I kinda bummed I started it.
I think it's a very cool initiative. The list of partners and the board of directors is .. pretty impressive to say the least. Gotta say it was kind of weird to see Koa Misi say "Rise up" though, I half expected him to continue with "THAT'S WHAT FALCONS DO!!".
I was on the site, and was hard-pressed to find any form of actual institutionalized racism that this movement would seek to target. All I saw was "Make a pledge", "take a picture, and use our app to make a cool effect", "Give us some personal information", "Use our hashtag". I'll be very interested to find out what Dan Lebatard will have to say about this one. Again, please pardon my cynicism. While I do hope this movement does somehow manage to bring about change in race relations, I'm just seeing this whole thing as another pat-myself-on-the-back initiative.
Agreed. I think things like this actually perpetuate the problem they choose to focus on as they allow people to feel like they made change without actually making change. I can just see the end result now.... Person 1: "I made the pledge to end racism!" Person 2: "Will you let your daughter date a black man or a Muslim?" Person 1: "Let's not get carried away"
This country was born on racism and violence. It will end the same way. It's effing embarrassing and scary as hell. I was at a sports bar last weekend talking to a guy about golf. The guy actually called Tiger Woods that colored boy. While I doubt this initiative will have any significant impact on society, I support any effort to do so.
...because billionaires are typically not racist. That is literally rich on so many levels. BTW, Bill Gates called, he wants you to for God's sake put a condom on just in case his genetically engineered mosquitoes miss you... Eeeeat freshh...
Thats what happens when you mix up the whites with the colors... Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
