yea i always thought he was a solid back, but this year in particular he has really progressed/matured and is a complete beast...we better keep him around for years to come

 

Ronnie is.......

#2 in rushing yards (#3 after tomorrow night)
#7 in YPC (of RBs with a minimum of 10 carries per game)
#1 in 1st downs
#4 in first down % (of RBs with a minimum of 10 carries per game)
#3 in touchdowns

Ronnie is elite. And IMO, top 5.

I think we still vastly underutilitze him in the passing game. He is way too talented at catching the ball and gaining YAC to not be catching close to 50 passes a year. And its nice to see him making plays early in games, forcing the coaches to keep feeding him the ball.

 

All that WHILE splitting carries, by the way.

If Ronnie were on the Vikings instead of AP, no one would touch him.

 

I am always curious as to where these threads come from. Ronnie is pretty much universally praised on the message boards. Very little criticism at all in fact. Who, exactly, are we ending the debate with?

As for the top player of the top 10, I think it is pretty clear cut at this point. Three Auburn players were taken in the top 10 that year. I think the only that that you can make a case for is possibly Cedric Benson, but he is on his second team after flaming out horribly in Chicago and hasn't done as much as Ronnie at this point in their careers.

Ronnie has been my favorite player since coming to the dolphins and he is top 15 at the least. he's finishing what he started in '07 before the injury

anytime anyone knows I am a Dolphin fan the first thing they say is, "Ronnie Brown is a beast."

In fact the only people I have heard actually be critical of Ronnie Brown are Dolphin fans on this board.

Seems like every few days a thread was popping up about Brown not being an elite back, not worth the #2 pick, get rid of him at the end of the year when his contracts due. You can find a better running back almost anywhere. It was said he was not productive enough and he doesn't put up elite numbers.
I kind of feel sorry for the guy, he is a class act never embarrases the fans or his team like some of the other prima donna players out there. He works hard and stays quiet just doing his job.
If Ronnies carries were bumped up a little he would be putting up numbers everybody would be talking about.
I know this is just 1 win after 3 losses but IMHO we're watching this team grow day to day and when it does come together it will be something exciting to watch.

 

I'm officially off the fence on re-signing him......if nothing else he entertains me too much on game day to not keep him. One of the most dynamic players in the NFL right now. His highlight reel for the season thus far not only says he's "elite", it show's he's also unique.

Each week the analysts on TV take shots at the wildcat and shake their heads at it as being a waste of time. And each week Ronnie Brown lines up under center and demonstrates how well it supplements our offense.

It amazes me how some of these guys just dismiss it. It's a vital part of that 183 ypg rushing machine that sits at the top of the rankings. Brown's prowess at running the wildcat, more than makes up for him not being among the league's top home run hitters.

You might not see any 80 yd TD runs.....but Ronnie, Ricky and the boys move the chains better than any RB unit in the league.

 

there was a thread before the season where i stated that ronnie brown is an elite running back, and thats its a no brainer to sign him, based on projection of his diverse talent, combined with proper variables.

Needless to say, some ronnie fans backed me, and some said that he needs to prove it before he gets the contract..of course some of us {crappy tipper, L2G,etc} debated for about 10 pages that we had already seen enough of his talent, and that projection was important so we could resign him before its too late...i also went on the record for a run at 2000 total yards.

Some were saying, they would rather trade him and pick up a draft pick yada yada yada..some of us went ballistic.

As of right now, his price has gone up..

Nobody can do what ronnie is doing in the nfl right now from a diverse perspective {wildcat included}..

 

i could watch him all day run this formation, i see all the little things he does that makes him unique to the formation.

A controlled chaos of movements of sorts, where he is the conductor.

 

Hell, the pundits in the media are just now figuring out that its really just a power formation.

Been debating that side since new england last year..

Exactly. We need to get him locked in for the next 5 years before the Market sets the price for a "Wildcat Field General" (I guarantee it will be more than a straight running back). :up:

 

How bout after we whip the jets ***, and ronnie proves against his so called wildcat stopper rex ryan that even he cannot stop ronnie when ronnie is running with proper variables. Then we go into our bye, and make ronnie brown a lifer.

That would be a sweet scenario..

 

Brown is an elite RB indeed. He's an amazing runner with a great blend of power, speed, and ability to evade tackles. He's an outstanding receiver out of the backfield. He's great at picking up blitzes and blocking. On top of that, he is a class act. There are 2 big improvements I have noticed from him this year. First, Brown has been known for dancing at the line of scrimmage. I have seen very little of that this year. He has been just hitting holes and going with the flow. The second thing I have noticed, is his vision. I don't know if it's the Wildcat that has really helped or what, but he has been finding the holes. It seems to me that he has took after Ricky alot with his improvement. All I can say is, we better sign this guy to an extension pronto.

 

And this is the biggest issue Ronnie might have. Guys gonna be 30 and thats 95% of the time the big road block for a back. Already it seems hes go no pull away ability. Hes effective as hell, but he doesnt break the big one and he gets caught. We saw it today when he popped into the clear for a 30ish yarder but got caught at the 5.
When RBs traditionally tend to continue to slow down at that age, how much money do we invest, and for how long? I would think a 2-3 year deal may be more appropriate at this point.

 

No way Ronnie signs for less than a 5 year deal. We may have to give him a 6 year deal to keep him here.

 

He just continues to grow as a total player, the sky is the limit

 

Keep feeding him the ball.........

I've been saying this for years now. Ronnie is a beast when given the opportunities. Anyone that can't see that Ronnie is an outstanding back at this level, needs to give their head a shake. I don't care about 1000 yard seasons and all that other junk. When you put the ball in his hands enough, he's going to make plays. His patience to find the hole has hindered him a bit when our O-line was shaky, but now that the holes are actually opening up, Ronnie has the vision to find them, and the power and acceleration to burst through them. He always looks to finish off a run by levelling someone. My only complaint would be a little more top end speed. He gets caught from behind alot on long runs like the 38 yarder yesterday.

If we don't re-sign this guy soon, theres a bigtime problem.

 

I think Ronnie is a beast as well, but some props have to go to Grove, Thomas and Smiley...they opened up the middle of that d like they were parting the Red Sea for much of the day. Ronnie, and Ricky had holes to go thru, they weren't getting hit in the backfield most of the time. The improvement wasn't in Ronnie and Ricky today, it was with the OL play and that made all the difference, to me... They (the entire OL) gave up 6 sacks today and a lot of that was on Henne's inexperience, but he'll learn. The bottom line was that R&R had room to run and that they did !!

 

Resign him now!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

He is our workhorse, and honestly until Henne grooms up, he is what our offense is centered around.

Bottom line, he outshines just about everyone's play on this team. And with Ricky, Cobbs, and Polite all there to back him up you can keep him hot, but not burnt out all game. We've definitely got a special player in him. If we can expand our passing situation, he is going to only get better and better at lighting up the defense

 

a few years ago on Finheaven I said that he is the most versatile RB next to LT, well I think he IS the most versatile RB in the NFL.
