Isaac Asiata is getting a baptism by psychopath.
The fifth-round rookie offensive lineman has spent his time this offseason blocking Ndamukong Suh. Even in non-contact* practices, it hasn’t been easy.
“He’s Suh for a reason,” Asiata said Monday, via Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald. “He has that credential of being one of the best for a reason, and I respect him for that. Every time I go against [him], I know I’m going against the best and that’s only going to make me better.”
So what is Asiata learning in a non-contact* practice?
“It’s really, really fast-paced,” Asiata said. “It’s kind of like when you go from high school to college, and you’ve got to get adjusted to college speed. Now, everybody’s fast, everybody is aggressive with what they do, so it’s tempo. Going out in Week Three, just learning, trying more to dissect the playbook, trying to learn my assignment so that I don’t have to think, it becomes second nature and I can just go out there and play football.”
The experience surely will help Asiata prepare to compete for a roster spot and playing time during training camp and the preseason.......

One thing that may help Asiata early if at all is that given out success running the ball last year; linebackers will be crashing the line.
Why does that help a guy who may struggle in space? He may not in fact have to travel all that far to find someone to hit. Then again that is a double edged sword as if he isn't quick enough he will be inundated with people to hit.
If he plays early defenses will look to exploit his mobility issues with stunts and tackle/ end games.
We'd better hope Pouncey is ready to go as his mobility may help mitigate Asiatas issues in some instances. -
To be the best, you have to go up against the best and if Asiata is having to block against Suh, he's going to learn A LOT!!!!!

Aint that the truth. I was all for overspending on guard in the offseason. The difference between a pressured Ryan Tannehill and a Ryan Tannehill with time to throw is night and day.
For any gamblers out there who don't mind betting against the Phins, I always looked at mediocre to bad teams with strong pass rush as teams that could upset the Phins. Furthermore, I think that with above average teams with strong pass rush are really, really hard for us to beat.
I would have really liked for us to shore up this part of our team before the season regardless of the cost. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I am really nervous about the interior part of the o-line especially with Pouncey's hip.miamiron likes this. -
It's going to make a great player out of him. He won't face anyone tougher, meaner and stronger all year. He has to be having nightmares about Suh by now.

I think Pouncey is done. It's a crying shame but the guy just can't get healthy. I agree that he makes me crazy nervous. If he;s still like that in his contract year he;s going to get cut. There's no way around it if he can't at least start 10 games or so a year...

Granted, Asiata may indeed be getting his *** handed to him daily, but going up against Suh, hopefully he's learning 1000 ways how NOT to block against elite defenders in the league...which in turn could indeed make him one of the offensive linemen given time.
