sets internal cap....I figured that, but I hope he isn't afraid to get a player or two, that are the play makers....this could be good and bad...you have to spend here and there..

I'd say 90% of teams will.
I know the Steelers have also announced an internal cap, which kinda sucks for us fans, I want Ownership to spend money to improve the product, fiscal restraint does PhinFans no good at all.k-bayfinfan, jetssuck and Bpk like this. -

The problem is more one of quality control, the Redskins threw money at players that did not fit...why sign Haynesworth for 40 million then hire a Head Coach and DefCord who run the 3-4?
Coughing the money for Antrele Rolle and Dansby though..makes sense..ditto a Wr...maybe a Te like Watson as well..all 3 could/would start.Bpk likes this. -

Pretty much what you would expect every owner to say, this is a business and you have to have a plan of how much you can afford to spend and still be profitable. The big question is what number the budget is set at and obviously we wont have a real idea of that till after FA plays out for a while and we see what kind of money we offered people.

I'd prefer he say, "I'll give Bill, Jeff and Tony whatever they need." Only they can really tell what is necessary on the football field, so he better believe them if they say they need more.
I agree that it's about trusting your people's judgement when they spend. -
Smart teams will set an internal cap, because you have to operate under the assumption that it will return.
You could argue about going for it all this year. But look at the Steelers. They're in the hunt every year and they're a relatively frugal franchise. They get it done with elite scouting, coaching and front office personnel.
That is a prime example of a franchise that builds through the draft, and drafts well.DolfanJake, Marco, finyank13 and 1 other person like this. -
I don't see any reason to worry that the team will be unwilling to pay someone what (they feel) he's worth. Per the article - Last year: According to NFLPA figures the team's total payroll of $126,855,921 was the second highest in the NFL.
This indicates to me that they're not afraid to spend. -

It seems to me that they've gone after some of the more sought after FAs but placed a ceiling on how much they'll pay. Calvin Pace being one example.
Knowing that they pursued Pace, I would think they'll also go after Dansby. But I won't be surprised if we get outbid. -
