I joked last week that we would need one of our token owners having a concert to sell out the Denver game. Well, Ross has done much worse. When Tiny Tim comes to town a week from Sunday, he will not be singing but. likely starting at QB for a "Florida Gators National Championship Reunion."
For most Miami sports fans, hating the Gators is about the same as hating the Jets. Yet, Ross is going to honor them on the same field the Canes play on, and likely have half the stadium cheering for Tebow.
This pisses me off to no end. I can only hope it pisses our players off half as much. What the hell was he thinking?

Why would it piss off the players? We even have at least one from Florida. They are in the NFL not college.

Given all the problems facing this franchise, it seems really stupid to dwell on something as silly as this. from what I understand, the CANES turned down an offer to celebrate a CANES day, the Gators didn't. so, where is the blame really?
and why the hell was this thread restarted?fins1, unluckyluciano, Larry Little and 2 others like this. -
This is gonna be ugly...real ugly..not the right time to be doing this..however it is the natural progression of this fanbase, to turn their own stadium into the opponents homefield...literally..
Better beat the jets or else you could have a very embarrassing situation in your own park that will get national attention, and only add to the perception of how bad they support their team..siciliansith likes this. -
Ross should have cancelled the concept when the Hurricanes weren't interested, and it's a dumb gimmick, but I don't really care that 'Canes fans are outraged and neither does most of the area or Dolphins fans.gamblerx, , Ohio Fanatic and 1 other person like this. -
Many Phins season ticket holders have gone to "The U." Many more are Canes fans. I've been told that many have voiced their displeasure to Ross.
That being said, why would anyone want to give an opposing team any type of advantage? -

I think it's not that big of a deal that this pisses off Hurricane fans. What is significant though is that the Dolphins will probably be honoring the starting QB of the team they're playing against before the game starts. That has got to be unprecedented. I don't think you can deny that UF/Tebow fans will come out of the woodworks for this game and then cheer for Denver. They could almost be making a home game another away game. That to me is more significant and embarrassing then some college football fans being mad.

Although it does not bother me,I realize this does piss alot of people off and was not thought out before hand.Another feather in the cap for Ross and Company.

I'm a cane/dolphins fan and I hate the ****ing gators. Having said that I still don't see this as a big deal.

In all due respect, I have no idea how you cannot see that.
What's next? A Tom Brady Appreciation Day? Or, howzabout a special game for Rex Ryan for all the New Yorkers down here in Miami?
I can see the add now. Bring your feet to the Dolphins game. Anyone coming bare foot will get a Sexy Rexy Ryan T'shirt.
This whole idea just SUCKS!!! I can't believe some do not see it. -

Eh, I went to UF and my mom went to UM (I actually root for both)
What bothers me more than Ross picking Tebow & the Gators for this event is the fact he's doing this at all. For Ross, profits > football :pity: -
-
Pouncey started on that team and garnered all American honors for that season....maybe he is offended that fins fans don't want to celebrate the greatest achievement he has accomplish so far in his career

Losing to UNC and two days later seeing Tebow honored at Sun Life, tough week for Cane fans indeed.

Not a Hurricanes nor a Gators fan, since I never attended those schools, so basically I feel indifference to the Tebow concept when it was first come out. I knew the team would struggle this season leading to the fanbase to lose interest...
-
DID YOU ever think that maybe the reason so many of us don't see it as a big deal is because it really isn't and your overdramatizing it based on your OWN personal feelings, and not the true feelings of dolphans?BlameItOnTheHenne likes this. -
Not everyone here is a Canes fan, so not everyone will have a strong opinion on it. Hell, I'm sure most fans don't give a sh*t.

I was born and raised in Jacksonville. Been a Dolphins fan my entire life. Been a Gators fan my entire life.
Am I snubbing the Jaguars being from Jacksonville and the Dolphins being my favorite team?
Am I snubbing the Canes being a Dolphins fan and not a fan of theirs?
College is college. The NFL is the NFL. Two entirely different animals. I see this as a non-issue however...
For Stephen Ross to organize THIS...being the owner of the Miami Dolphins...a team in so much trouble is yet more proof to me the owner is so far out of touch with the fanbase of the Dolphins that as long as he is the owner, we'll never be a winner.
If Ross were wanting to organize a reunion...
Organize a reunion of the ORIGINAL 1966 Miami Dolphins
Organize a reunion of the 1972 Perfect Season Miami Dolphins
Organize a reunion of the 1982 AFC Champion Miami Dolphins
Organize a reunion of the 1986 AFC Champion Miami Dolphins.
Keep your activities related to the esprit de corps of your fan base, not just any celebrity in which you hope to make a quick dollar. -
YES the hometown will be cheering on Tebow so can we county this as another loss for the Phins?? SUCK FOR LUCK!
I mean what a place the Dolphins stadium has become! You can buy Jets Gear, Be the minority fan in your own home stadium, and honor others players at halftime! Great time to be a dolphins fan! Way to go ROSS!!!!!!! -
This is going to be the trainwreck of all trainwrecks. Luckily halftime isn't televised live, though I'm sure CBS will film it and show a snippet when the second half resumes, then talk about how odd it is the Dolphins are doing something like this.

Are their three players gonna be on the field for the halftime celebration? would be nice seeing them miss any adjustments probably not they'll be getting ready for the second half. This just creates a reason for the opposing teams fans to get into the game, cheer alittle more openly, and make the Dolphins day harder. That being said i dont believe your gonna see alot of people spend the extra cash just to go to Tebow day. They were coming to the game or not. But celebrating them makes there voice alittle louder.
It could go a few ways lol:
1. Mass migration of northern Floridians and Denverites swarm Miami and take over.
2. We have alot of Dolphins and UM fans that get louder to oppose the Idea, drown em out, and have a mass walkout at halftime.
3. We have alot of fights between Denver/Dolphins fans or UM/UF fans. (AT LEAST THERE WILL BE SOME EMOTION IN THE STADIUM)
4. We see what world peace would look like and all the religious people sing Kumbiya at halftime.
5. At Halftime both Denver and Miami Fans are chanting "We Want ORTON, We Want ORTON".
Just not the right move. Will it really matter no but the taste of it will linger in some fans mouths imo. -
Whoever organized this stupid idea should be fined and punished, Fu%$in morons...The disrespect that this is gonna show the team should take the perception to a new low..
Tebow's game doesn't scare me, but the way he makes a team elevate their play should be enough..
I'am disgusted...They picked the absolute wrong time to pull this stunt off...You might have mutiny against the home team, i'am serious..
If Mike Dee doesn't understand the ramifications of something like this and how it hurts our reputation, then he's freakin clueless at his job. -
I know a lot of UF/Dolphin fans going to this game actually.
But does anyone even watch halftime shows? -
Although I know that MANY fans are fans of both the Phins & Canes, I should have focused more on the Dolphins in my OP, which I will now try to correct.
The MIAMI DOLPHINS owner & Co have chosen to honor an opposing QB, who is not a HOFer about to retire. Defend the decision as you like but, that is what it comes down to, and it has never been done. It will bring tens of thousands of fans to cheer for HIM, as opposed to OUR team.
This decision is classless, and there is no reason for it, aside from money. I cannot even image the same being done with Shula still being here or, Robbie, or Wayne. Ross & Co is giving an advantage to an opposing team.
The national media and fans are laughing at the MIAMI DOLPHINS once again, and it is justified. JMO -

Here's another view from the PB Post. Tebow has become more important than the Dolphins, and it will get worse. -

I'm a Gator guy and a Dolphins guy and I've been both for as long as I remember being alive. Graduated from UF. I honestly don't understand why they're doing this, and it doesn't really make sense to me, but I also don't care and don't understand why anyone else does. It will be over and done when the third quarter kick happens, and we'll all go back to secretly (or openly) hoping the Dolphins lose so that we can finally get a franchise QB again.
And I'm not just saying this because I'm a Gator, but I think Denver has a better chance of winning this game now than they did with Orton, who I think we all massively overrated in the offseason. That dude isn't any good. Tebow may not be a pro bowler himself, but that team looked pretty much dead last week until Tebow got in the game. Hard to completely discount that. -
