I don't see it as being down played. Anybody who has watched the NFL for any length of time has seen surgeries followed up by clean-up surgeries almost as a matter of course. That is what they're saying was the case here. Assuming that's the truth, then it really is nothing beyond some bonding time missed before TC.

I'd love to know if he referred the Jets' siginings of Holmes and Tomlinson as "risky".

Unless they left some snippers in his hip, this isn't a big deal ATM.
-
3.apparently it wasn't serious enough to keep him from passing his physical(im hoping..our doctors have been known to drop the ball on these things).
4.we basically got him for a 2 next yr which we will probly end up getting back by then.not much risk in ti if you ask me. -
Is this guy the first one to speculate it was on the opposite hip? I haven't seen anyone saying that yet, however in an interview the FO said it was a "clean up" procedure.
I trust the Coaches more than I trust some random reporter -
Okay he has 2 hip operations great, one that has been done with, the other was the new routine one.....consider he is 25, they can opt out after one year, he was photographed riding a bike, something that if the hip is bothering you at all in May, he isn't doing....was catching and throwing the same day it was done....I just am not worried about it that much....they shaved half of A-Rod's hip off and he was back in 3 months, playing at a high level, and never went on the DL....and before the alpha football males in here start saying there is no comparsion, I agree on a punishment level yes, but consider hitting a baseball is centered on hip movement...
they had to make a move at WR, whether it was BM, or Dez...either way articles come out saying how risky and terrible a move the Tuna made....there are people in the media that dont like the Tuna much and pounce on him alot....
IMO Parcells will deserve it, if this thing blows up in his face at the end of next year, and they release him...until then...this is nothing..MikeHoncho likes this. -
hopefully he can rebound this year....SICK and Larryfinfan like this. -

i think this was a trade largely driven by the fans. Ross probably put some pressure on Parcells and Ireland to get a big name receiver and once we decided that Bryant wasnt the guy and the price dropped to two 2nd rounders they pulled the trigger. Hopefully it works out

Eh, is that halo beginning to tarnish a bit?
And is it just me or for whatever reason has Brandon Marshall rolled out of bed this week with a "kick me" sign pinned to his back? Now anyone who acted positively towards him is under fire for daring to trade for him.
The cool thing is though, the SFla media is not exactly the attack/harp/bludgeon machine that it is in the Northeast or West Coast, save for a few AM radio types who complain so much it really doesn't matter what they say.
The Big Slow comes to mind, ditto El Sid, though El Sid is a pro and doesn't take things too far. -
This is such a wait and see topic, but for people to be either from the "its a major issue" camp is just ad hoc to me...we......will......see.. -
-
im not worried about it. its not like we have a bunch of morons running the team now. im happy with the way things have gone since this new start. and this has been the biggest off season thus far.
nolan should have caught some kind of wind of this being with marshall in denver, especially if it had anything to do with marshall sitting out the last game last year.
worst case scenario for the miami dolphins, their BILLIONAIRE owner looses a little money in an uncapped year. way better upside in this gamble. if you even consider it a gamble -
Don't care much for whatever Chris or-whatever Tucker has to say about the move.

Did this fool even read the BM contract, we can cut our loss and run. It won't cost anywhere near the 50 mil thats thrown around so lightly. BM shows up and plays great, he gets paid, he don't then he don't!
Had we gone the other route and picked Dez the contract would have been way more costly imo and less secure too.
I won't be concerned unless he's a no show on Sept. 12, 2010 at 1:00PM, until then the media can hollar blood in the water all they want to, cause it means nothing!SICK, finyank13, DolfanJake and 4 others like this. -

It may turn out to be a bad deal, but it's way too early to be bashing the regime about it just yet...let's see if he plays some games and if he's affected by this thing... -
If his hips become a major issue again before the end of the season, would we consider flushing his contract before a new CBA and cap returned?
I wonder. -
You guys have to relax. First off his left hip was operated on and the issue never came back. They went in to repair a torn labrum in his hip, this way it won't affect his playing time this year. I had both my shoulders repaired and it was the best thing I ever did. Back in the gym and feeling great. He will put up his 100 catches with ease this year.

I heard on ESPN radio last night that the Dolphins structured his contract so that if they wanted to, they could cut Marshall after one year without penalty. So if he were not to play or did not play well this year he could be gone. They said he is scheduled to make 9.5M this season.

It was risky but you have to take calculated risks in order to advance .Just imagine if we didnt risk anything and failed anyway. You would be accused of being timid, conservative and feinthearted. You might as well go down fighting IMO.On the flipside you will be put on a pedestal if the gamble pays off..You may even be mentioned in the same breath as.....can I say it...genius.:wink2:

Once again this is much ado about nothing.jetssuck and CrunchTime like this. -
First of all the Dolphins have an out in this contract, where they won't lose too much $$$ if they cut it. Second, Stephen Ross is mega rich. This isn't a horrible experiment, we got our 2nd round draft pick back this year. If it fails it fails, but if not this gives us a high powered offense this season.

we missed on the injury.
it was the other hip
we should have known. :shifty:
all you need is a big time WR to change the football team -
-
Yep......we could have drafted someone and then waited/hoped/prayed that they actually pan out......instead we can line up opening day with a beast at WR
These guys are 50/50 on 2nd rounders......I think we made good use of the two we spent. -
I've given this a little bit of thought. Whatever the issue with Marshall's hips, it wasn't caught by the doctors during his pre-trade physical. Either our medical staff is completely incompetent, or we're talking about an injury that was sustained after the trade. Could it be a training-related injury? If it's something like that, I'm not too worried, though I admit the prospect of giving up two 2nd rounders and $50m for a guy who's had both hips operated on isn't very appealing.
In the end, Marshall has produced despite hip concerns in the past. I don't think there's any reason why he can't continue to produce now and in the future. IMO, his catches and total numbers were set to decline anyway, a combination of the team preferring to run the ball and a passing philosophy that involves spreading the ball around rather than feeding a target. (I don't like Marshall in fantasy football this year, that's for sure.)
Ultimately, we just have to wait and see. But the more I think about it the less concerned I get.
And, memo to Ross Tucker: I'll listen to your opinion when you figure out which person in the front office is making personnel decisions.finyank13 likes this. -
I'm 100% behind trading draft picks for QUALITY players in their primes who play high value positions, I've seen entirely too many John Beck's and Samson Satele's to value #2 picks too highly, the plain fact is..second round picks bust to.
Fair value is winning games, the pro bowl is a moderately accurate measuring stick that perhaps does not mean as much as it once did.
So bring on The Beast. -
something else happen?

Everyone knew marshal was a big risk including the front office. The potential of being a high end offensive weapon made that risk worth taking. The surgery doesn't change that. Risk taking is a foundational element in any competitive business.
The issue with the hip could be something preventive that the ortho's saw and decided to deal with now instead of waiting till it got worse.
Unfortunately too many in the press and a good bit of the fan base paint negative images early on based on more hear say than fact and their own emotions and the chance to gloat in an "I told you so rant" if things do go bad.
A person isn't the Great Karnac(sp?) if a player they complained about goes bust. They just got lucky with a guess. Any player that was great in college or on another NFL team can be bad at their next stop. It can happen to anyone. The opposite is also true. My hope is he plays well for us for many years. If not, life goes on.the 23rd likes this. -
Not necessarily true. I had a knee scope done after a MRI failed to show any damge. I knew that something was wrong and I insisted on the cleanup. Turns out that there was a substantial amount of debris in the joint that was causing pain and had to be removed. MRIs don't pick up everything all the time. The surgeon was part of the group that worked on the Dolphins at the time- good guy and damn good surgeon. -
Remember, we're talking about Marshall's other hip. So far, his hip injury was on one side; this surgery involved the other. -
It was arthroscopic surgery where they either went in and cleaned something up or removed something simple. When I had my arthroscopic done on my shoulder the big concern was that the surgery damages the muscles so you have to build them back up. I had mine done early summer and almost as good as new by the fall. Seeing as how Brandon has resources that I don't he should be able to come back even quicker. Also, he's already riding a stationery bank, hell he was doing that only a day or two after. If the surgery had been intensive or intrusive, then he wouldn't be able to do this much yet.
