Most objective people would also understand the context of his down year last season. The Redskins defense was putrid as a whole. You could have had a prime Revis back there and he wouldn’t have looked very good.

Over his career, Fuller has been a really good corner and has played both outside and slot very well.

PFF still had him ranked in the top 10 last year

He was mostly pretty good outside of the game where DJ Moore torched him over and over

I realized long ago Grier is never going to get us anywhere, and drafting Tua and the whole 2020 draft was the final straw. That was his big chance to ace the test and build a real contender, but he blew it. Picked three duds or outright busts in the first round while leaving future HOF talent on the board.

Then the whole Flores debacle and rebuild of the rebuild, we are playing on borrowed time, our window to build a real contender and get to the superbowl is over and Grier blew the most important picks and decisions. Continuiing this Grier experiment is a waste of more years of my life trying to see the Dolphins finally win a super bowl.

I have zero faith in him and won't be satisfied until he is gone.

Bring out the excuse train, there is no getting around giving up a 69% completion percentage, 9 touchdowns and 120.4 passer rating when throwing to recievers he was covering last year.

He was not good by any stretch. You guys have to go back two or three seasons to make his numbers look somewhat respectable.

There is a reason why we got these players like Fuller and Poyer at bargain price, they are on the decline.

He was the best free agent CB on the market and now he gets to be #2 instead of a #1.

#7 CB on PFF in 2023

We remember the story regarding some supposed tell, by a Ravens player, that the Miami Dolphins offense was making? I wondered if this was the case given the struggles of our offense beyond the first quarters and halves of games. With Weaver, former Raven, on board as the DC, if this was true, it should be corrected making our offense even more effective. Just a happy thought to toss out there

Berrios back on a 1 year deal. Makes sense but he can't be the WR3 this year. They need someone else.

I don’t think this really means anything. The guy who made the graph is basing everything off of salary instead of the actual player.
Anthony Walker is every bit as good as Jerome Baker (in most cases even better), but he has a cap hit of about $8m less. So this guy is calling that a “loss”. When Tua is extended, and his cap hit lessens, will that be considered a loss? Lol

Amazing. McDaniel believes the cap impacted their decision making:

“It all comes back to the fact that there’s a finite salary cap,” McDaniel said. “And sometimes, we can’t be the kid spending the money. We have to be the parents that have to look at our budget and make sure we can pay the water bill.”

What’s amazing is you believe that.

On second thought, coming from you it’s not amazing, it’s expected.

Here’s my reply to this when it was posted in the club:

“Coach speak to make fans and players happy. Except the players know better and anyone that can add and subtract do, too.

Letting fans think that they can’t afford a player(s) when in reality they don’t want to pay a player(s) makes it seem as if their hands are tied. The cap is finite, but it’s highly malleable. If Mahomes came on the market, and demanded to play for Miami, are we to believe that they wouldn’t figure out a way to pay for his astronomical contract? Lol

Of course no team can pay their entire roster what Mahomes makes, but all teams can afford Mahomes. It’s not about the cap, it’s about what each team feels the player is worth. This organization didn’t feel like Wilkins was worth the 4th-5th highest DT contract. I agree with that. They don’t feel like OBJ is worth $11m per year. I agree with that also. If Justin Jefferson had come into the building and demanded $11m per year he would have been signed in a second.”

I’d expect a person with at least half a brain and an ounce of objectivity to understand why McD would say this so I’m sure you don’t understand.

That’s not a fair statement. Dan never said we could and because we could, we WOULD. He simply stated that we could.

And he was right, we COULD have re-signed both Wilkins and Hunt…but then the Dolphins would have lacked any depth at positions and would had to have prayed the the football gods we had no key injuries.

Being snarky towards another poster for his accurate stated position, although we didn’t, is just stirring the pot of discontent.

There is an opportunity cost toward any roster move that you make. Coach and GM have to figure out if keeping two players at a high rate is worth more than their options with that loot. Considering that there's a great chance that both players would eventually miss some time with injury, we probably benefit more by spending their $47.5 million on several good - if less impactful - players. One of the reasons why the DeShaun Watson pursuit was insanity is because it would have put a fifth of our salary cap into one guy and ruin our depth. It's not Monopoly money and eventually, a time comes when you cannot restructure and have to pay the bill.

It's no surprise that we're at the point of the rebuild where we reset. I think we're still competitive and if we don't have a sh*t ton of injuries again, we'll be competitive.

We didn't sign Wilkins, Hunt, and Van Ginkell because salary cap was an issue AND they were expensive. The argument from Dan is we didn't sign them just because they were expensive, and salary cap was no issue, which is wrong, as Dan usually is with his delusional homering. If we didn't have a salary cap or were way below the cap, we would have no problem paying them the market rate and also have enough room to fill the rest of our needs.

Yes, salary cap can be manipulated, but to act like it is not an issue at all and everything is fine is just wrong. You hear it straight from the coaches mouth and still choose the salary cap is no issue take.

Other teams have had salary cap casualties as well because it is definitely an issue.

As of now we are going into 2024 with a less talented roster than we had in 2023, and it's mainly because of the salary cap situation.

The Dolphins opened at a 9.5 over/under last season. This season they open at a 10.5 over/under.

A defensive tackle and right guard aren't moving the needle for Vegas. Only one person is. Tua Tagovailoa.

Just because you can’t add and subtract doesn’t make the math wrong.

Most simpletons can look at the info and see the Dolphins have plenty of money to sign both… if they wanted. Again, most simpletons.

Quick question for you, do you think the Dolphins will get to the NFCCG next year? Lmao

Another thing to consider is the new DC and what his scheme will be and what he wants for players that fit the scheme. Some here think Wilkins is some generational talent, but he’s not. The Raiders paid him the 4th-5th highest DT contract in the league. He’s 29 yrs old and has nearly double the snaps at Sieler who is the same age.
These things were considered when deciding to either pay Wilkins or let him go and spend that money on multiple DT’s. If we go by the Ravens of last season, where our new DC coached the DL, they had many DT’s rotating out all game keeping everyone fresh.

And for some of the dullards, once again, the Dolphins could have paid Wilkins an outlandish contract if they wanted. They have the money.

This has to be the make or break year for Grier:
I mean, he should have been gone a long time ago, but this is it now. The window on his “rebuild” will be slammed shut.
It’s already completely f’d as it is.
He couldn’t even keep the few successes he picked. His son actually picked Cam Smith! GMs have been fired for less f ups than Grier. What good has he done?
Gink? Couldn’t keep Gink? Hunt?? Our OL? The elevator!!! lol! The damn elevator!!
….and of course the biggest question mark, the QB.

This has to be it for him, right??

It doesn't seem like you understand the argument, or you are making a straw man. The Dolphins could have signed them with the salary cap as is. They determined the cost was too high for the positions/players with the salary cap as is. Those things aren't mutually exclusive, and the idea that they couldn't have signed them if they thought the value was there is wrong. Dan was clear when he argued that the Dolphins could have signed them. That is not the same as saying that they should have signed them. Others were in a tizzy about the Dolphins cap space going into the off season. Hope that clears things up.

Wilkins' dominance is unique in that he makes players around him better. We might very well be moving from a scheme that will utilize him in that way. The Raiders weren't stupid to overpay because they believe he's going to have a positive impact on the rest of their defense. Brace yourself for people to suggest he's underperforming in Vegas when his stats don't reflect Aaron Donald's but Max Crosby has his best couple of seasons coming up.

Here are the true comp% he has give up since 2020.

    2023- 68%
    2022- 67%
    2021-55%
    2020- 72%

The Dolphins are holding onto one of their key reserves on the offensive line. According to multiple reports, the team has agreed to terms on a new deal with tackle Kendall Lamm. It’s a one-year deal for the veteran.

Lamm has spent the last two years in Miami and he appeared in every game for the team last season. He started eight of those contests and he also made 28 starts while playing for the Titans, Browns, and Texans earlier in his career.

The Dolphins have tackles Terron Armstead and Austin Jackson back from last season. They also signed former Eagle Jack Driscoll as a free agent to provide further depth at the position.
