25. Joe Philbin
Career Record: 15-17 (.469)
With The Dolphins Since: 2012
You might think that, like Garrett, it’s not clear what Philbin does. You’d be wrong. It is clear. Nothing. Philbin does nothing. Philbin is a former offensive coordinator who didn’t call plays even when he was an offensive coordinator. He doesn’t know how to hire assistants. He doesn’t know who to feature on offense. He doesn’t know how to handle a PR crisis. He does know how to project the personality of a cantaloupe that’s learned how to talk. Maybe Philbin’s value added to the Dolphins is immense behind the scenes. His starring role on Hard Knocks wouldn’t suggest that, but work with me. But even if that were true, could it possibly be worth the ineptitude he’s shown on the sideline? Hiring Mike Sherman? Featuring Daniel Thomas? Having no clue how to get to the ball to his No. 1 receiver or keep his quarterback upright? With a playoff berth on the line, Philbin’s team combined for seven points in Weeks 16 and 17. It generated 24 first downs. That would get you fired five times in Cleveland. In Miami, it wins you a power struggle with the general manager. Philbin’s off-the-field victory will ultimately prove pyrrhic for the Dolphins on it.

That was pretty low to insult cantaloupe like that.

Are we allowed to criticize people? I'm serious. In every thread, someone is quick to post some overwrought metric that proves we have the best in the league at everything, but yet we won 8 games.
It's fine to have hope for improvement, but the issue is that clear failures can't even be criticized.

i'm surprised he was ranked that high.

The mains have been about as emo as one can get. -
Damn Rotoworld, tell us how you really feel...
-
How exactly do you rank coaches... based on personal preference, opinion? What factual measuerment can you really use here? It's all just opinion... Pointless read IMO.
That being said... Philbin's time here has been very questionable. Have to think in Ross' mind, its playoffs or you're out this year. -
He doesn't know how to handle PR crisis? Funny because so many around the league praised him for the way he handled the Incognito/Martin mess.
I'm going to wait until his 3rd season is complete before I judge him. I still don't think he's nearly as bad as others say.Mile High Fin and Ducken like this. -

Has a ring and has nobody leaving that team poised to get another this year...
What pisses me off is Chip Kelly, lets slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww that down @ 6?!!?? Better than Tom Coughlin? Come on, giving me a break... -

Had we not crapped out the last 2 games I don't think many would be calling for Philbin's firing, even if they still had legitimate questions about his ability. -
When is it ok to criticize? -
Instead of speculating, you could read what I actually wrote and you'd find that I was as gung ho as anybody about getting in, and I thought we'd win the last two games and have an excellent chance to beat Cincy.
Doesn't mean I thought we were a great team, just that we were seemingly peaking at the right time and had relatively easy competition in front of us.. I wanted to get in and would have thoroughly enjoyed. -

Point being you guys HATED Ireland and now that he's gone the HATE just continues to the next guy, Philbin. You simply cannot say we underperformed and think Ireland sucked or you cannot think we over performed and think Philbin sucks....without calling your sanity into question.finwin, Califin, GMJohnson and 1 other person like this. -

scapegoats? we're cannibals, we eat our own:
1) mistakes were made by a rookie coach. our rookie QB literally fell apart (after taking a horrific beating through-out the season) in our last two games... games we were strongly favored to win. how different the conversation would be had we made the play-offs. and there are those amongst us that embrace the defeat as a good thing, exposing the team for what it really is?
2) we've had a number of class head coaches eaten alive by the media & fan-base. proven bulls with nothing more to prove, simply walked away rather than endure the Miami Gauntlet. Can you blame them? simply nothing new in any of this... pure & simple cannibalism. what chance has Philbin got with the cards stacked against him in 2014?
3) a lot of good things in 2013, the offensive line was not one of them. unfortunately, it all begins in the trenches. having said that, a lot of things were done right.
4) lastly, what pleasure so many took in the trumped-up, unfair & meaningless "bully-gate mockery that demoralized & humiliated a team in the midst of trying to move forward. what a joke! we eat our own.
I think Joe Philbin will not get a break this year, there is no level playing field. having said that, I believe he has all the attributes to be a winner & in a different situation Philbin would excel.
:omg:and yes, Tannehill is next in line to be eaten alive.
all these things I have repeatedly & consistently stated in various ways throughout the season. maybe we need to collectively take a good look in the mirror. be it as it may, it is what it is... dinner is served!
I believe every fan-base, ultimately, has the team they deserve. -

excellent entrée with a seasoned chef in the kitchen
Seattle had/has hands-down the most talented team in football & Wilson was a convenient/excellent fit for their offense. it was a happy meeting of minds & talent that took them to the SuperBowl. fail to see a legitimate comparison with Miami in 2013... apples & oranges.
now what's for dessert? -
Why are you a member of a haters club if you criticize, have doubts, questions or just don't have confidence in Philbin? In my opinion a coach is no different than a player, he has to earn respect and confidence from the players and the fans. I still have hopes in Philbin but I just don't think he has done anything noteworthy or enough to give us confidence in his abilities as a head coach. He may very will turn things around this year, but we will just have to wait and see.
