dont know if this has been posted but i thought it was an interesting read, i disagree with the egnew grade but the rest is pretty good http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...des-full-round-1-3-results-report-card/page/4
THIS YEAR Tannehill - F Martin - B Vernon - D Egnew - C+ Overall - C- NEXT YEAR Tannehill - B Martin - B Vernon - C+ Egnew - B Overall - B
I'm not going to put a grade until after I see what they can do but I'm really not excited about the Vernon pick.
Tannehill- A Martin - A Vernon - B- Egnew - B B+ Vernon is the only one that concerns me. However, I think he's a lot more athletic than people are giving him credit. If he can reproduce those games where his motor does not stop, we'll be in business. I feel good about guys like Wake and Dansby teaching him as well. Martin should be a solid contributor from Day 1 and Egnew not too much further behind. Tannehill at 8 doesn't bother me but I'd prefer to sit him for as long as needed since we're fully-invested.
I don't like that they gave Egnew a D because of Clay. Clay is an H back, and a different type of player. The grade should be about whether Egnew will be a player for us or not. He filled one of many needs. Sent from my iPad
Couldn't be mad at that. I think his potential for us is exactly what we've wanting on for a long time. might take him a little while to get there though.
yeah i agree thats why i miss nfl europe they need something like that for players like vernon and wake who could need more developement.
Well, sort of thought we'd take Vernon, just thought coming off of the knee issue he'd slide. Not in love with the Martin pick, imho we have waaaaaaaaay over invested in the offensive line as it is, adding a second rd pick to it is sort of bad GMing imo Literally, every player on our OL will have been a high draft choice, good teams managed to find OL talent without investing that heavily in the OL
I really like our draft. We targeted needs and I think each pick had value where we selected them. I won't give a grade till after we see them on the field, but I'm extremely excited. Watch this and tell me you don't like Martin, I absolutely love how confident and intelligent he comes across. one thing we can say is that each of the positions drafted were targeted. the only question really is Vernon in RD #3 ... but like Tannehill - if he turns out to be a stud in 2 years, no one will complain then. Right now today - eh ... it 'does' appear that only 1 of our 1st four picks will line up and start day 1 - Martin. In the grand scheme of things ... that just won't and shouldn't 'grade' very well. 2 years from now - it could mean something totally different. expect WR (McNutt/Streeter), CB (Steed/Bethel), TB (Cadet/Rainey/Miller); but a name such as Cam Johnson (DE) might be hard to pass up in RD 4. As are there several 'Day 2' OL (T/G) still on the board as well.
This exactly. Vernon was the only one I wasn't extremely happy with. Not that I think he was a bad pick, but he wasn't as good as the other 3.
Ive heard Egnew is the 4th best rated TE in the Draft. Thats not a D in my book. Dumb ranking IMO. Plus hes a player we need!
Tannehill - C+ Martin - B+ Vernon - C- Egnew - A- Overall - C+ Obviously any player can turn out to be good, but Vernon's spot should have went towards a WR in my humble opinion. Also can't give this particular QB selection a high grade simply because I think he's a project that didn't deserve to go at #8. Doesn't mean I don't have high hopes for him, but if I was drafting I woulda skipped QB this year simply because it seems like a weak class outside of Luck, and maybe RG3. Obviously as a Miami fan I hope we can develop Tannehill and he will turn out to be great.
Vernon has a knee issue? Can you be more specific? I've not seen any injury problems at all associated with this player.
Some analysts rank him 3rd TE. The one in my signature block does and also ranks him as the best hands among this crop of TEs.
Grades at this time mean absolutely nothing. You really can't judge a draft class until you see how these players adjust to playing in the NFL. All I know is that this draft class better make a bigger immediate impact than the last four draft classes with Ireland as the teams GM, or this may be the last time he in conducting a draft for the Dolphins.
No offense to you Padre but I hate when people do this. They are different players with different abilities and different mindsets. It's pointless to compare like that.
He's not just coming off a knee issue. He was injured a bit earlier in his career but this year the games he missed were suspension due to improper benefits.
From what I've seen, the issue a lot of people have with the pick is the lack of production on the field the last 2 years, not his athleticism. One of those high upside/high risk picks.
Egnew is the kind of physical freak that might be a beast in this league. Finley/Graham type of player maybe. I am excited we finally took a guy at the TE spot with that kind of ability. Martin himself I like, but I generally agree with Padre. So much invested in that line, it is kind of hard to swallow. We really lack difference makers at a number of spots because of it. Vernon ... eh. I don't know enough about him to comment but it doesn't really excite me. Tannehill, hopefully we have found our QB for the future!
Well at least this time the reason were doing OL is because were changing schemes. We at least don't have guys beyond Incognito who got larger contracts but wouldn't fit the new zone blocking scheme and their preferences for OL in the 295-320lbs and athletic.
As a Cane fan I'll say Vernon has the ability to be our best or worst pick so far. I'm really not sure on him. He definitely has all the tools, it's whether or not he can develop them.
Overall, I'd give the Phins a solid B+ right now. I think we addressed areas of need with talented players who weren't reaches. I would rather have had a WR or two instead of Vernon or Agnew but I will give Philbin the benefit of the doubt for now.
