[Rumor] Cowboys to #12?

Discussion in 'Miami Dolphins Forum' started by Colorado Dolfan, Apr 2, 2010.

Definitely nothing tangible there, but it's an interesting scenario... What does everyone think of the possibility of Barber and Crayton for the #12 pick? Would you pull the trigger?

Mods, feel free to move this to the Draft forum, or even Fantasy Football if you'd like... ;)

The rumor making the rounds about a week ago was Austin to Miami for a swap of 1st and 3rd round picks (Miami would drop back in both rounds but keep. On my draft chart that would be the equivalent of trading the 36th pick for Austin.

It would cost a big contract (bigger than #12 would get), but it would allow us to add a WR and a player like Hughes or Odrick at #27.

I would do that in a heart beat. I'd even drop back from 12 to 27 and give up the 3rd probably.

I wouldn't do it for Barber and Crayton. Barber's contract is way to much and Crayton is not much better than what we have. Their 2nd, 3rd would be a start.

I would love a trade but I would want only their draft picks. 1st and 2nd and maybe another draft pick and I would bee thrilled

I would do the trade as well. I think Bryant will be the better WR, but Austin would be good enough and I think there will be some very good options at #27. I'm not sure I'd throw in the 3rd though.

BTW I'd say no to the Barber/Crayton deal.

I'd be pi$$ed if we did it for Crayton and Barber. That would be a terrible trade. Plus, Barber is due something like 8 million this year. It's not happening.

I'm pretty sure the whole swap of picks with Dallas and get Austin thing was just Dave Hyde throwing it out there as an idea after he heard about Dallas bringing Bryant in for a workout,

    http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports/columnists/hyde/blog/2010/03/could_draftday_trade_with_dall.html

If we do trade down i'm pretty sure it'll be for more picks not players, which is also why I doubt it'll happen anyway.

The Austin trade would be phenomenal, kid is a playmaker. I got to watch him a lot this last season and almost every game he was making 1-2 plays where I just wondered how the hell he did that. No question would I pull the trigger on that, and then spend the late first on a defensive player or maaaaaaybe Gresham if he fell.

For Crayton and Barber? Hell no. Crayton is a good special teamer, and he can make plays when left open, but he is very much a supporting player.

If all we get is there 1st, Barber and Crayton HELL NO!!!! that would be a horrible trade IMO we better either get this years first next years first and this years second or Miles Miles Austin and this years 4th along with swaping firsts

Miles Austin for swapping first round picks, and maybe we throw in our sixth rounder too. That would be a good deal, as we get a proven WR and can still get the best OLB left at #27.

I just don't see why Dallas would want to do this trade, unless they really want Dez Bryant or the best LT remaining in the draft at #12 to replace Adams?

What if they offered to swap first rounders, WR Roy Williams and their fourth rounder to trade up to #12? With no cap this year, it's the a chance for Dallas to get out of his contract.

Apparently, Jones is having cash flow issues since building that new stadium. The #12 pick will probably sign for $20 million to $30 million less than Austin. That's the only reason I won't discount the rumor entirely.

Not sure what the article was implying but it would have to take more than Barber and Crayton for us to move that pick. Something like those 2 and their 2nd rounder and a later pick maybe but just those two? I seriously doubt that would even get a seconds consideration.

I think one thing we can take from this is that now that Adams has been released, the Cowboys are unlikely to be in the Dez Bryant sweepstakes.

They've put themselves in a position where they pretty much have to find a left tackle in the draft. And whether they stay put or move up, I'd say that first rounder is almost guaranteed to be a Tackle.

They might just think this draft is deep in the tackle department and feel they can get a young guy on the 1st day that can step in, or they feel they have someone on the roster already. I wouldn't discount the Boys from being after Bryant or anyone really at this point. JJ isn't exactly a guy to play it conservative.

I know the source referenced by this article's author.

That person told me to take it with a grain of salt. That said, this source had the Dolphins-Cowboys talking trade for Fasano two months before it went down.

They've been grooming Doug Free for a couple of seasons. He played pretty well last year when they used him. Maybe they are thinking he is ready to step into the starter role.

    Dallas gets:

    #12
    Ted Ginn
    Justin Smiley

    Miami gets:

    #27
    Miles Austin

    That would suit me fine

I wouldn't say that it's a great OL draft and they like Doug Free. They might just be looking for mid-rounder as a back-up. IMO T became more likely at #12 than it was last week, but I wouldn't call it anything close to guaranteed.

I see your point, "guaranteed" is a strong word but IMO anyway, they'd be fools not to try and get the best LT prospect possible. Otherwise they're taking a hell of a gamble at a position that's dangerous to gamble with.

If Dallas wants to move up to #12 then they're going to have to fork over #27, #59, AND #90 or #59 + Miles Austin.

I would accept nothing less if I had control.

For anyone who thinks that is "too much" note that we can probably move down in the 18-24 range and pick up an additional second + 4th or 5th.

There is going to be an interesting facet to this years draft because I think we're in a good spot to trade back. The 12th pick is still going to have a lot of talent available and cheaper than a top five or ten pick. We have stood by for years watching other teams trading back picking up more picks. Maybe this is the year we can pull the trigger on one ourselves and pick up some extra talent or picks. It will be depending on who slides down the list of course and what surprizes are left on the board.
I would love a good player who can make an impact at #12 but I would also like the trade down option.

Everyone here is pretty much saying that the Austin thing is a baseless rumor.

And Jerry Jones is the same guy that drafted Felix Jones in the 1st round just because he was from Arkansas. The same Jerry Jones that flirted with moving into the top 10 to draft McFadden because he was from Arkansas. I'm pretty sure we can all agree that with Marion Barber reaching the peak of his prime, Felix Jones in the 1st round didn't really make sense

When Jerry falls in love with a player he does what is necessary to take that guy. If he values Dez Bryant more than Miles Austin, I wouldn't be completely surprised if he pulled a trade like this with some team
