http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d825b3ce9/article/beat-reporter-believes-jets-could-pursue-peyton-manning?module=HP11_headline_stack This seems like a flimsy report to me with a lot of conjecture and not a lot of proof. However, it was on the front page of NFL.com, so I figured I would share.
Noone knows if Manning will ever play again, not even Manning. I assume he will be healthy but who can tell at this point. Seems to me the last time the Jets went after a QB that was at the end of his career it didn't work out to well for them then either.
Saw him on TV yesterday saying it was pure conjecture on his part and then put the odds of it happening" slim to none". Just said the Jets would look into it as would every other team in the league would
Manning could literally go to any team in the league and Dolphins fans will love and respect him...except the Jets. We would all turn on him in a heartbeat and claim he is no where NEAR Bernie Kosar, let alone Dan Marino, in terms of talent.
Lets not let facts get in the way of a news story but I wouldn't put it past the jests to mortgage their future with a trade for Manning if it could happen.Him and his little brother shareing the same building would just add to the speculation. It was not so long ago they went after the old Brett Favre.
As much as I respect Manning, I would love to see his fate on the Jets wind up like Brett's.. The Jets, the team where QB's go to die. Then again, the last time the Jets picked up an aging vet to win the Super Bowl was in 2008. .The same year the Dolphins were searching for a head coach and our team was in disarray. With King Peterson on the way to clean house, can we see 2008 redux in 2012? I'd take it.
Rubbish article. No facts at all, just speculation. Manning's contract makes him untradeable. The Jets would have to sign him as a free agent and he is proven in the past, he does not play for free. The Jets don't have the cap flexibility to pay Manning. In the end it does mean anything to me, behind that line he would not last a month.
Love to see the Jets invest over 40 million just on two QBs the rest of the roster will be from UPS and Federal Express
If Manning goes to the Jets, Rex wouldn't even LOOK at the offense. Manning would be your QB, Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach. That's my opinion anyways.
stupid article by this guy. His source for this conclusion is "Rex Ryan's uber-appetite for a Super Bowl ring"? An appetite about the same as another 31 NFL coaches? Cannot believe they put this on the front of NFL.com
A team without a ton of money already in a QB would get him most likely. Not only do they have a lot of money in Sanchez, but they gave up draft picks to get him. If it was about the Jaguars, Seahawks or Browns wanting Manning, they wouldn't have.
I'm sure Manning is itching to play in the cold, windy Meadowlands for a team that is clearly in a tailspin.
LULZ at the rumor being from Manish. I'd be more concerned if it was from webmasters at thegangreen or jetsnation.
Peyton would not go to the JETS and take any thunder from his brother Eli. 1) Peyton has the notoriety already, his Q-factor and SNL past and commercials are already legend and so no appeal from NY, and doesnt need or benefit from Big Apple. 2) Going to NY, creates a battle Peyton isnt looking to create with NY Fans and Giants vs. Jets. 3) Peyton may love to one day be in the SB opposite Eli for the fun of it...but I simply would be willing to wager he wouldnt do it in NY with Jets. 4) Until we hear from Archie, its a non starter discussion
This, and IIRC wasn't one of the reasons Manning stayed in school for another year was the fact that the jest had the #1 pick that year?
While I'm not surprised the Jets would want Manning, I doubt it's mutual. The Jests are way too toxic right now. Plus Sanchez is a major marketing tool for NY right now and although Manning could be that person too, Sanchez is much younger and replacing him would sign that Sanchez is a failure.
I don't think Manning would have interest in playing for the Jets and their... style. It'd be like trying to get Eric Clapton to join a death metal band. The Jets don't have the cap space for Manning anyways.
