I love these guys man, they build a football team...a deep football team!
Now we just need a CB or two....Bartell would be a dream but his contract might be to much. -
not too familar with this guy.....is he a good player? old or ilb ? good size?
-
I hope we sign him, I've been calling him "Rob" instead of Kevin Burnett for weeks now..Phinperor, Larryfinfan, unluckyluciano and 1 other person like this. -
Here is a piece of ESPN scouting take
Burnett is a backup lionebacker who plays primarily in sub personnel. He's a better overall pass-defender than run-defender at this time. Against the run, he lacks quick recognition and good hand use. He shows limited vision in traffic, while attempting to read and play off contact. As a pass-defender, he can react quickly over the middle in short zones. He does a good job gaining depth to keep vision on routes in front of him. He can read and drift to take away throwing lanes or undercut routes across his area. He has good lateral closing ability on short throws. -
He would be quite useful against a spread-offense or the like and on third downs. He'd cycle very well with Akin Ayodele.

Always liked him, the only problem is that hes injury prone. If he can stay healthy is a good player.

I know Parcells' history and all but if we sign him, do we even look at an ILB in the draft? Crowder/Akin/Burnett. Solid 3 ILB's. This might open up some more talk of the rumor that Parcells and Co. is in love with the WR group in this years draft and take one early. I wouldnt mind Robiskie in the 2nd or Heyward-Bey possibly if he's there in the 1st.

Drafted in the 2nd round, 42nd overall pick by the Cowboys in 2005.
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=53484&draftyear=2005&genpos=OLB
Came into the league around 6-3, 235lbs, according to draft websites. NFL.com has him at 242lbs.
Weirdly, the Dallas Cowboys website has him (as a 4th year player, so that part's current) at only 227lbs! That's Cato June territory.
Ran a 4.61 40-yd dash. Struggles with his strength holding the Point-of-Attack. Mainly a weakside OLB according to what I'm reading. That said, on third and long, couldn;t he slide into the middle at ILB for pass coverage? Not sure if he has experience playing inside or not. I do know he was recruited to Tenn to be a safety initially, so the ball skills and coverage skills are there.
He was aTennessee guy around the time Jason Allen was there. He was voted team captain twice, so he's a high-character guy in the locker room.
Sounds like a guy we'd want in the rotation for passing downs, mainly. Hopefully he's decent at ST's.sking29, azfinfanmang and SICK like this. -
As I suspected, he's in on nickel asnd dime packages and is a special teams ace.
-
My question is this... if he is on the field foe third downs, nickel and dime, but is a pass coverage 'specialist' of sorts, and he plays OLB, then that doesn;t address improving the pass rush in the OLB spot opposite Joey porter.
I have to assume the most useful arrangement would be to have Joey on one side, Cameron Wake on the other side (Or English/Sintim) and Burnett in the middle on nickel.
On dime, it'd be Porter moving to end with four guys down, and who Wake/English for pass rush OR Burnett/Crowder for Coverage? -
The team obviously over-achieved last year, and he expectations are gonna be high. It will be very tough to repeat as Division champs, and every single faucet of the game will have to improve.
First and foremost, Special Teams will have to vastly improve. I easily see 2 more wins last season with better special team play. I really think one thing Tuna is going to pound is much improved special teams, and I think that is a big reason for this signing. -
awesome now maybe we can sign a CB
-
Yeah, after reading about this guy through this thread, he definitely sounds like a depth player, and a special teams player for us. The FO obviously has some history with him, so they know what they are getting into, so i'll trust them on this signing as well as the Joe Berger one.
-
Not bad. I like it if we get the deal done. If so, i think we just have Dline, CB and maybe WR as major issues with oline and lb and minor issues.

So far, everybody we got from the cowboys worked out nicely.
I dont see a reason for that to change. -
All I can say is that the guy was an absolute beast at Tennessee and was one of the best LBs the Vols have had in the past 5 years or so. He always played hard and personally I think he would be an asset to the team even as a depth guy.
-
With the way things are unfolding it sure looks like they're setting things up to draft a Cb. I'm sure the hope is that Davis falls to 25 and if not there are a couple of Lb's that will.

I'm glad were building a team that wants to get knocked out of the first round year after year in the playoffs.
Yes that was a jab at bringing in all these Ex-Cowboys players.Bpk likes this. -

And they absolutely need a starting Cb so my guess would be early in the draft. Getting Goodman back would mean they could draft the best available on their board come draft day. Otherwise Cb is the most dire need.Bpk likes this. -

Not that big of a guy. I wonder if he's coming to start or just for depth and special teams. -
I want Bradie James, but I guess Kevin Burnett would be good enough.

I just hope they take the very best player available at #25. Hopefully it would be a CB, LB, NT, WR or an offensive lineman.
