little bit of greatness revisited: http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/aquavision/aquavision.asp?category=1&search=&mediaid=33390 He's on course to break all Miami's running records this year, with plenty of tread left on the tires & the Orca-5 out front. Running behind an offensive line that can actually run-block will be a new & motivating experience for Williams, can't wait to see this new RunFirst Offense take the field.
OK, I've got to ask because I've seen you make the reference it seems like a dozen times recently. Where on earth did Orca 5 come from?
1) Friend Crappy Tipper: the Orca-5 is another name I use for our offensive line: Long-Smiley-Grove-Thomas-Carey i.e. Killer Whales, Orcas, very large Predator Dolphins got the idea from the old Washington Redskin's offensive line, the Hogs they were a mountain to deal with in the run-game, clearing a path for a monster RB named Riggins, if my memory serves me well. Hopefully, we'll have the second coming with the Orca-5: an awesome offensive line & the Tandem from Hell to burn the turf for the Miami Dolphins ground game. 2) Friend GardenHead: He's on course to break all Miami's running records this year, with plenty of tread left on the tires. I am not making that prediction, it is a possibility & observation. I fully expect well over a thousand yards for both Ricky & Ronnie this season, if our offensive line lives up to expectation. 3) I think Williams has another three seasons to make his mark & believe he will go out on top, breaking all Miami rushing records. Ricky is the RealDeal, the Beast of the Second Half, a Once in a Decade RB, the total Package & evidently Bill Parcells is rather fond of him too. We will see very soon. You can't hide @ RB & he has to make his mark this year. It is what it is. This is his last opportunity, he is running out of time.
cool, glad you've got enthusiasm but we should let them earn a nickname before anointing them because so far they are 100% unproven until they strap it up this season. I hope we have an awesome line too
No he's not, he has quite a ways to go before he even comes close. Most Rushing Yards Larry Csonka - 6,737 Ricky Williams - 3,983 Most Rushing Attempts Larry Csonka - 1,506 Ricky Williams - 949 Most Rushing TD's Larry Csonka - 53 Ricky Williams - 31 I would also caution that Ricky is on his last legs and that he doesn't have passion for the game, he's said as much.
Thank you for doing the research I was too lazy to do. I've done it in the past though. I predict Ricky will break ZERO of the aforementioned records. I'll be shocked if he plays more than 2 more seasons (this season + next).
I could picture him ending his career with about 1200 carries for 5,500 yards and 40 touchdowns but I wouldn't put anything beyond that. *** as a Dolphin, not career ****
not so fast, apples & oranges here the guy has back to back 2000 yard seasons you're comparing Czonka who took eight seasons to accumulate what Ricky did in four Czonka also had the help of a premier offensive line & Kick to help soften up the game even with all this, although improbable it is possible for Williams to prevail my worry echoes Friend like2god's concern about motivation we will see soon. got to play the game. I can picture him breaking all records if comes back the Ricky of old with no problem.
Most Rushing Yards Larry Csonka - 6,737 Ricky Williams - 3,983 Ronnie Brown - 3,433 Most Rushing Attempts Larry Csonka - 1,506 Ricky Williams - 949 Ronnie Brown - 781 Most Rushing TD's Larry Csonka - 53 Ricky Williams - 31 Ronnie Brown - 24
Despite its smooth appeal, I'd have to agree. Until they instill in their opponents, nothing more than the feared treachery of Orca, and nothing less than the sly trickery of Shamu, "Seafaring Mammals of Profound Protuberance" would aptly apply... even though my expectations are drifting to the dimensions of "Jaws 3D"
He has had zero 2000 yard seasons. He had an 1800 yard season and in 99 career games (about 6 1/4 seasons worth) he has 7,771 yards. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4653/career
I would be thrilled if RW broke 700 yards this season. He didn't last season. I expect Brown to get a slightly larger bulk of the carries this year and for Cobbs to carry a larger load as well. Last season's carries and yards: Ronnie Brown 214 916 Ricky Williams 160 659 Patrick Cobbs 12 88 This season I expect something like: Ronnie Brown 230 1035 Ricky Williams 120 480 Patrick Cobbs 45 225 And if anybody is going to breakout I think its most likely going to be Brown. It wouldn't shock me to see Brown have about 240 carries for 1200 yards or so.
you're right (collectively) not much of a chance for Ricky overtaking the standing records @ 32 I am guilty of not looking into the statistics before I posted & being a tremendous fan of Williams. I apologize for the inaccuracies & homerism. I read somewhere he was poised to break some running records this year & didn't take proper note of the article before I posted. it is what it is. Hope you @ least enjoyed the video. I do predict both Williams & Brown will gain well over a 1000 yards a piece, if the offensive line prevails & would love to see Ricky come back big time in his last years with the Dolphins & redeem himself with the fan-base.
I am a huge fan of Ricky Williams as well, but I don't see both of our backs breaking 1000 yards. Now especially with the ball being shared by 3 backs. I'd be really happy if one of our backs breaks 1000, and it looks like Brown will have the best opportunity for that.
if we go with the RunFirst & employ the WildCat effectively, if the Orca-5 meets or exceeds expectations, I am optimistic that the Tandem could easily both go well over 1000 yards each in 2009. Lot of "ifs" there, have to wait see. Only thing for sure is how the ground game goes so goes our offense.
First of all, I admire your passion the 23rd, so no need to apologize IMO. You just led with your heart. Nothing wrong with that. That said, I also don't think Ricky will be around long enough to break any of Czonk's team records. Ronnie on the other hand could, assuming of course he is resigned and stays healthy. As for predictions this season, I wouldn't be shocked at all to see us end up with 2K+ team rushing yards this season. But, I think the reality is Ronnie will be closer to 1,200(+?) yards, and Ricky will probably be somewhere 'round 600. And, I have absolutely nothing to base that on...just a hunch. My prediction would be something like: Brown = 1,150 yards Williams = 650 yards Cobbs = 250 yards White = 450 yards
No need to apologize, it happens. I think I read that somewhere before as well, just keep in mind that south Florida beat writers aren't exactly the best source for factual information.
He also said just 2 weeks ago that he was retiring after the 2010 season. I dont see him breaking those records either.
When Ricky quit on us I couldn't stand him. But, if he plays and stays consistant it'll be wonderful. I know I'm old school, but comparing him to Zonk is wrong. No one has, or had, the audacity of Zonk. He was one in a million. He could carry a defense on his back for a down. I know the game, the rules etc. have changed a lot, but those guys were tough, they had to be to survive. No matter what goes on I can never take anything away from our old teams, our great coach etc. They were the best, better than all the rest!
