Not only are they drafting Shazier, they are drafting the Shazier family.

Maybe we can plead the league to let him wear #19 if he gets drafted.

These last minute private meetings are significant IMO .He is definitely in our radar hopefully after a trade down.

Personally I am leery of the recent history of Ohio State LBs.

Athletic skills yes.Football instincts I am not so sure of .Vernon Gholston comes to mind.I am not comparing the two because Shazier is much more accomplished but there is a grain of doubt.

I would prefer to draft Cooks then a OT and then Preston Brown who is more of MLB prospect than Shazier.

But what do I know ? I am not getting paid the big bucks to make that decision

Gholston was a DE. When thinking of OSU linebackers at least think of the real ones, like AJ Hawk, James Laurinaitis, Pepper Johnson, Randy Gradishar, Bob Brudzinski, Andy Katzenmoyer, Bobby Carpenter, and Craig Powell. Some good, some great, some not so good, but at least they were or are linebackers.

    You forgot Spielman? Unforgivable.

Yeah, we've cranked out our fair share of solid LB's. I'd be tickled w/ Shazier particularly if we traded down a little for him.

I like Shazier's production - lots of tackles and TFLs (unlike Gholston) and he is incredibly explosive.

I actually see him as a Von Miller / Elvis Dumervil type. The question for him is weight (he's got thin hips and goes at 237). If he can add 5-10 lbs to that frame without given up much he could be in that class, imo. His bench was 25 and that's pretty solid for an undersized OLB. Basically it's teaching him to rush the passer and he already has shown skill to defeat O-linemen.

I have long been focused on offense and really think we should go that direction (#3 WR or OL) but there is a lot of salivating at the prospects of his playing WLB and rushing the passer alongside Wake. He can also play in space very well.

At this point Miami might be lucky to see Shazier make it to 19, let alone a trade down. He's being overlooked as a serious target for St Louis at 13, and if the Rams don't take him, Dallas stands a good chance to do so with Aaron Donald off the board.

I think there's a pertinent question in terms of if this was leaked purposefully or not.

Armando Salguero was the one who reported it, so I think that makes thing a bit opaque, because we don't know what his relationship currently is with the team with the front office changed.

Imagine the Rams with Laurinaitis, Ogletree, and Shazier as a linebacking trio?..... plus Shazier's speed and athleticism to help counter the mobile Wilson & Kaepernick four times a year? Everyone says "Clinton-Dix" as if he's the default pick but St Louis can always trade up their 2nd rounder for Jimmy Ward and not lose much, whereas after Shazier there's a considerable drop off. They also had him in for a pre draft visit.

yes but Tampa drafted LaVonte David and that turned out quite well for them, so there's that parallel. We had Shazier in for a visit. There was chatter about shuffling around the linebackers. Plus, ex Bucs GM talked him up big time recently.

Apparently SF and a couple other teams are looking to move up , so he may be a target or one of the targets after a trade down.

I never got the feeling watching Shazier for 2 years that he was "special". I think he is still very raw and benefited from running free in the Buckeye defense. He will need to shed NFL caliber blockers, and I'm not sold that he can do that. He also seems to have gained a lot of muscle in a short time, I realize steroids are common in the NFL, but I can see his natural small frame breaking down often.

    No thanks.

TBH, with the way things are shaping up with Shazier, Beckham, and possibly Cooks, we might not have any option left but to either trade up to Tennessee at 11 [for Shazier, one of the tackles should they fall, or Eric Ebron if he slips out of the top 10] or hope for a trade back and take JaWuan James.

I'd be very happy with Shazier. We need linebackers who can make plays.

Pretty cool that his dad is our team chaplain. I hope we can reunite them.

    Well away from here
So, basically you're saying that only God knows why we picked Ginn that year?

There was this linebacker that turned out to be a little above average that would have been a better fit.

Looking at what he's done since he was traded, it is pretty obvious that Miami and the former GM gave up on the Ginn family too soon. He did not play that much in SF other than as a return man where he made some big plays, but did well in Carolina last year. Giving him away for a mere 5th rounder was something I have never agreed with.
He was dissed constantly when he was here though, same as Marshall after him, and Wallace now. Seems like whomever the most high profile WR is on the Dolphins roster, they are prime targets for the blatherings of the self proclaimed cognoscenti throughout Dolphins fandom.

Shazier has the speed and size ratio that makes him a completely interesting prospect, having an OLB with that sort of speed would provide a huge weapon in both pass rush and coverage, provided he has the instincts to do both and isn't just "an athlete".

But those players used to be the type you could get in the 2nd round or later, when teams start coveting those abilities so much as to raise him from a post season 3rd round pick to a pre-draft 1st round lock, then you have to think about whether or not you really want to pull the trigger.

Just doing more research on Shazier and this dude is a freak of nature athletically. Plus he's versatile which is something I think we put a lot of importance on.

    I'd love to have him.

His measureables are pretty insane. 42" vertical? Crazy. The stats he put up are pretty great too and I think he can improve. Tons of upside.
