I know we've got a few Tannehill threads going, but I thought I'd create one specifically for the status of his injury as information comes in.

RT should have had surgery last season, but that wasn't in the plans for this organization, so instead he'll have it this year, or rehab and have it towards the end of the season....But sooner or later he's going to have surgery...

He really should just get surgery and reset that knee. By the time he's effective this season to do all the things he normally does.. the season will be over.

He should have done that last year with 6 months to rehab it was a very bad call on his part, but feeling the pressure in Miami I feel he would play with an eye popping out his head.

It wasn't entirely his call, he had pretty well-respected doctors telling him he didn't need surgery. This seems to be lost in all of this.

Was it the same one who told Miami staff breese shoulder was shot too? lol

A dr should have known that with the strength and size of RT surgery was the way to go especially with the timetable he had for rehab, now that decision has cost the kid a yr and possibly a job!!

Depends on the answer you want to hear, go to enough Dr's and you'll get the answer the Dolphin's Organization wanted to hear, finally found a quack that said no surgery required, just meditation and a bandage...appears they are looking for the same quack again, no worries they'll find him or her...

I feel like this front office is not "getting it" in regards to RT's knee. It's clear it's unstable. Time to put aside the notion of him starting the 2017 season or even playing most/all of it. Get the surgery done already. Should've been done right after he tore it last season.

You either accept "what is" and course correct or you delay and cause these kinds of incidences.

bring in Garoppolo or Christian Ponders to learn & eventually compete with Moore. Moore may turn into a better QB than RT if given the chance.

Having had knee surgery myself back in March to have a portion of my patella removed I know first hand how difficult rehab can be. What I thought was going to be a 6-8 week recovery time turned into 4 months. The knee is one of the trickiest things to have surgery on. One thing Tannehill or any other professional athlete has an advantage on over a peon like me is access to some of the finest surgeons and rehab specialists money can buy...that and still being young.

A 20 something year old body heals quicker and better than a 51 year old.

Ok, need to explain this to me like I'm a 6 year old....why would you bring in ANOTHER back-up (which NE has NO desire to let go of) or a has been/never was QB in Ponder to...LEARN a system that Moore already KNOWS to "compete"?

If Tannehill is indeed out fo the season which I do believe, you dont bring in another quarterback to COMPETE with Moore. You bring in another QB to LEARN the system to BACK UP Moore.

Only QB on the market who could actually compete would be Cutler - that's it.

As you said, everyone else would be a backup. No way in hell they're learning to play effectively under Gase's system in 6 weeks.

I don't understand this fixation on Garopollo.

With the exception of Matt Cassell, every NE QB backing up Brady went on to do jack squat when they leave.

And it's been reported Cutler wants starting pay and starting job. Sorry, you may have played FOR Gase but that doesn't mean you automatically GET it.

If he wants a shot and Gase is willing to give him a shot, then ok but to just hand the reigns over blindly?

    No thank you

From what I'm making of all this, Tannehill could play still but he'd be risking his career on any given play. I think that makes it clear that-

    1) He's going to have to have surgery sooner rather than later.

    2) We have to bring in a top backup or a washed out QB to compete with Moore.

Remember, a lot of us were on the fence with Tannehill pre-Gase....very few of us were in that position after last season. Gase did the same with Cutler, Manning, and every other QB he's been around for quite some time now, so I'm thinking that someone like RG3 or Kaep could find the parts of their game that has been missing. For the record, I'm 100% against Kaepernick, I don't want the drama in Miami at all. Yet I do have faith in Gase for evaluating talent and finding the right person to bring in and compete at a high level should Moore get hurt.

There's a 3rd factor to this as well- Moore didn't take a single snap with the Dolphins last year in practice until he had to. He looked fantastic at times last season but we have to remember what a season under Gase with all his attention could do to Moore's game. We saw the best version of Tannehill last year minus the aggressiveness (that we've seen in practice this week)- imagine the best version of Moore that's already aggressive as hell...

I am very sad about Tannehill because this was going to be his year, but I'm also excited for Matty Ice to get to work and light up the league. He is an amazing person and the ultimate team player...many of you are going to be shocked at how good he is with full reign. I'm just nervous because Moore is one concussion away from being finished for the season, possibly his career.

I could only imagine how things would go in Miami with Kaep on the sidelines wearing his Fidel Castro shirt....

Moore has accepted his status as a backup for years now, and I doubt he would be resentful of Cutler as the starter. Does that mean the job just goes to Jay? Nope, he needs to show he still has it, and remembers enough about Gase's system to play well. I do share the concern about Moore getting another concussion, and I doubt he can make it through a full season as a starter.

Cutler has to be reasonable about his salary though, I can't see more than $10-12 million with half of that guaranteed and spread out over a two year contract (with him really being on a one year deal).

I just don't want another 'lost season' after finally seeing the playoffs last year.

    'His knee is ok.'

    'It did not buckle.'

'His previous knee injury had nothing to do with any of this.'

All bull**** people were spouting amd insisting on last week because they didn't want to beleive the truth, or even the possibiloty of it.

    Glad we've settled that nonsense.

Still disturbs me that surgery was not opted for. I can't even remember the last ACL tear or partial tear I've heard of where the player didn't immediately get that taken care of.

That decision will likely haunt him for the rest of his life. But what can you do? He took the best possible medical advice and tried to make the smartest possible decision. It just didn't work out in this case.

Still no decision on surgery or not. This is ridiculous. I am worried that he may never play another game at this point.

Me too- and it sucks. It is entirely possible that he's played his last game in a Dolphin's uniform. I am hoping that they restructure him ASAP so there's incentive for us to keep him. And if RT didn't want to restructure, then that's a sign that he believes he's done.

It sucks to lose Tannehill for this year, but in many ways this could turn out to be good for the franchise. We'll get to see Cutler or Moore play with the same surrounding cast, and I think we basically already know what Tannehill can do with good surrounding cast, so all this gives us lots more information on how valuable or not Tannehill really is.

He's cheap to cut after this year too. And if Cutler or Moore plays well, the negotiating power will be with us, not Tannehill. Best of all worlds would be if we do better without Tannehill and then draft a future QB high next year who doesn't need to start immediately.
