Pietrus was a decent signing, but I don't think he really improved the Magic enough to make a statement. He's a role player at best with a terrible basketball IQ, although I do like the guy. He's not going to push Orlando over the top, and when you're a team that won't see any cap space in the near future, you need a guy who will push you over the top.

Thing is, when you've got Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis combining for $30+ million per season, you better at least contend for a title. Otherwise, it's a major failure.

getting to the 2nd round and losing to Detroit in a good series is IMO the very definition of contending for a title.

 

Many people still live off of the past. Jets fans for example.Their not that far away from contention. Last year, that team was the Dolphins basketball version. They were injury riddled and were a complete mess. The Magic aren't exactly that great either.

because after the 2009 offfseason, we will be a top 3 team in the east and a TITLE contender again. and orlando well..will still have disney world.

 

Are we talking about the same Stan Van Gundy here? The guy who was severely out coached by Larry Brown in the 2005 Eastern Conference Finals? The guy who went absolutely brain dead when it mattered the most? The guy who was leading a mediocre team up until mid season, got replaced, then watched that team go on to win a title?

Stan Van Gundy is an above average coach in this league.......at best.

Haven't seen him coach a single NBA game yet. He came up under the same Pat Riley who Stan Van Gundy came up under. Difference is, we've already seen Van Gundy crack under pressure. Let's see how Spoelstra (37-years old) can grow with a young team....
