I need some help here as I am new to the Fishing scene. I just wanted to know what would be a nice rod and reel combo to start off. Anything under $100 would be great. Also what are some good places to go fishing here in Miami, mainly fishing off a bridge. Thanks for any help

You want to buy a Shakespeare Ugly Stick, medium weight.
You want a Penn Spinning real.
Use 12 to 15 lb. test...tie it directly with 30 lb. mono filament as a leader....use live shrimp as bait...go after Snook off the south point jetty. Around the old penrod's property.
Most of the piers are closed now.Frumundah Finnatic, jetssuck and calphin like this. -

As far as the rod and reel and other info, I would have told you the exact same thing he did....especially if you are just starting out.
Try Sports Authority and maybe even try a couple diff locations as some are better stocked than others... they usually have good prices and it's possible they might even have a deal on a nice combo. -

Head there...that is South Pointe Park...you can't miss the Jetty.
BIG SNOOK there..although time is running out to go after them..they are usually gone by May and return around October. -
Again..I can;t stress it enough...
BUY an UGLY STICK. you can;t do better for $40. I own three...I swear by them..simply the best bang for the buck. You are getting what is really a $150 rod for $40.

I'll second the Ugly Stik, best value rods you can get your hands on.
For saltwater fishing though you just cannot go past an Alvey side cast reel.
Mechanically they are simpler than spinning reels (aka eggbeaters), which means less things to go wrong.
You can cast much further with a side reel than a spinning reel, which is good for fishing from shore.
If you want really accurate casting then you should be looking at a baitcaster, but they're much more for fishing from a boat.
There's a bit of a technique to learn with sidecasters but and hour or two practice will get you right.
