This fella was deep in the game if reports are to be believed:
-Selling 3-5 K's of Coke
-5 tons of MJ
And was trying to up the amounts he was moving to 10k's of coke, FBI hooked him up at Morton's Steakhouse in Chicago.
Apparently a law enforcement official was on Chicago area radio and said they have a list of NFLers that he was supplying with blow...good thing there are not many fmr cowboys on the roster any longer...

...say goodnight, to the bad guy -
Hurd is the distributor, they always want the supplier ESPECIALLY if it comes from Mexico directly...
For someone this "big" to get popped after only receiving a tip in July means he isnt that bright in the drug game... -
-
It's not like he rolled out of Bed in July and decided to sell drugs and suitcased some blow over the border to get started.
I do suspect they will want to make as large of a case out of this as they can simply due to his high profile relatively speaking. -

At least this explains why Hurd isn’t a very good receiver. He spends all his time selling drugs instead of improving his game.MikeHoncho likes this. -

Dude clear out your pm box. I live in bradenton too. Where do you go to watch the games? I'm always looking for fellow fans to watch the game with. The bar I go to is OK but it lacks Dolphin fans. -

To be honest a lot of this sounds exaggerated.
-
As for this one it seems unlikely they will make a big push for the smaller supplier that Hurd wanted to upgrade from. I imagine they might throw him a small bone and offer a slightly smaller recommended sentence to the judge if he gives up his supplier's name, but if he really had any significant business then they'll be more than thrilled with getting him. -
Lol, how could I? Are you employed by the FEDs? Because if your a local police officer that doesnt mean much in federal cases. Me and two other cousins were close growing up, one is locked up, one was a local cop and now is a drug task force officer in GA, and luckily I turned out normal. So I have close people in both extremes as well.
You might be closer to the legal part then me, but I know personally on a couple occasions of the Feds 'settling' for the big score. And that's in a small town of bradenton, I highly doubt those are isolated incidents. -
I don't think those are isolated instances. Drug dealers tend to talk big about what they claim to know. Cops and prosecutors don't tend to believe them. And even if the cops do believe them, the most they can do is make a recommendation to the judge. They can't guarantee anything. Then on top of that you have to factor in human nature towards laziness and favoring a bird in the hand over two in the bush. I've worked on drug cases on both the state and federal level and while a few may cut deals, most of those are minor modifications at best. The vast majority don't get any deals for their info. The only deals they get are for pleading and not forcing a trial. And I would say the federal side is worse. The rules are set up so that the feds convict something like 99% of the time. The sentences are all based on a formula. The war on drugs and "tough on crime" stuff has made the penalties for everything huge. So getting a charge or two dropped rarely changes your total time. Crooks look at that and figure that they would rather not be one of the guys in prison who flipped. Most every crook is willing to flip, but they have to see a benefit. If you know that you're going in for most of your life either way then there really isn't much benefit.

Damn, I heard this news break yesterday but didnt process that he is an active NFL WR. I thought he left the game after his stint with Cowboys, and just now realized he signed with Bears for $5M this offseason.
damn....crazy! -
If they wanted to chase anything, they wouldn't have busted him. That's just stuff you hear on TV anyway. -

When dealing with a high profile figure such as an NFL player the feds may be happy with makeing an example out of them instead of makeing a deal. The made an example of Martha Stewart and she don't even play football.OK it wasn't drugs with her but you see my point.
