Samphin Presents: WWE's Top 10 rising talents.

Ok, so most of you probably don't watch wrestling and should probably click out of here now. Go ahead, I will wait.

No I won't. For the rest of us, I figured I would put together a list of CURRENT WWE wrestlers that I feel (for any number of reasons) the E should build around in the future. A couple of notes:

A: They can not have already held the either of the world titles. I do not include the ECW title, or the women's title in this. Why? Because the WWE doesn't treat them like world title so why should I?

B: The have to be current WWE wrestlers. Meaning under contract to this organization. Yes, Samoa Joe will kill you, but no, we will not be on this list. Neither will other wanker boys like AJ Styles, Chris Sabin or any other fidget from TNA or other place. This is strictly about the WWE.

C: I will be focusing on younger wrestlers as well. Sure Bob Holly meets the two criteria above, but he is older than Jesus and will never be more than what he is.

Got it? Good. So, without any further adieu, and in no real order (keep that in mind), I present to you, the top 10 future legends of the WWE.

    10. CARLITO [IMG]

I can't understand why he hasn't already been elevated to main event status to be honest. The guy has everything working for him. He can work in the ring, he has the pedigree (father was legendary Carlos Colon), he can talk with the best of them, and best of all, he has a repoire with the fans that allows them to connect. I honestly think they have held him back because of his hair. As silly as that sounds, that is how the people think there. "Gee, he has funny hair, he must be nothing more than mid-card comedy fodder."

Nothing can be further from the truth. Give him the ball and watch him not fumble at the top.

    9. MR. KENNEDY [IMG]

Kennedy was well on his way to being with the big boys before he decided to go ahead and get himself suspended for steroids. He needs improvement in the ring and has, quite possibly, the shortest set of arms on a human ever, but besides that, he has a nice look and is comfortable enough on the mic to incite a reaction.

I am not sure how to define his style in the ring as he has yet to have a match where I sit up and take notice, but I think working a program with someone like Shawn Michaels for a good long time could really help pull it out of him and put him over the top.

    8. UMAGA [IMG]

The man Regal refers to as , "UMANGA" is actually quite good in the ring. He is a believable big man (unlike fellow fat asses Big Daddy V and Mark Henry) who also benefits from a long line of wrestlng family members. He has the ability to get over with a crowd as either a face or hell without ever saying a word which is wuite remarkable.

On top of all that, he has signature moves and has a believable offense and presence in the ring. He, above all others on this list, is probably the most likely to become a world champion the fastest I think.

    7. MATT HARDY [IMG]

Once upon a time, I think there was reason to believe that both or even just the OTHER Hardy brother would be on this list. But not anymore. Considering Jeff's instablity and unreliability, he is no where near this list. Matt, however is rock solid and probably above all else on this list, has the most amount of passion for this business.

Think about this, he is a self taught wrestler who, along with his brother, started a wrestling organization which helped produce stars such as: Jeff Hardy, Gregory Helms, Shannon Moore and others. After people started taking notice, legends like Dory Funk Jr. started training him to help hone his skills. The guy can work pretty much any style from hardcore to high flying and everything in between.

As long as he stays out of his own way and doesn't allow for outside forces (women, his brother, etc.) to help bring him down, the sky is the limit.

    6. MVP [IMG]

You want to know how I know this guy is good? He is saddled with a HORRENDOUS gimmick, which usually makes me check out when reviewing their tapes. However, through hard work and dedication, he has not only made me re-think my thoughts about him, but actually turned me into a fan. So what if he looks like a power ranger right?

    5. JOHN MORRISON [IMG]

Still very raw, but has a tremendous upside. He plays a fantastic pompous heel and that will allow him to have work for a very long time. He also is very athletic and appears to be able to adapt to many styles. I could actually envision a Raven-esque type career for the man really, which seems odd. But remember before Raven was Raven, he was Johnny Polo and Scotty the Body (and Scotty Flamingo and...). So it isn't out of the real of possibility for him to take a similar ype route.

    4. ELIJAH BURKE [IMG]

Elijah is an interesting case. I know, for a fact, that the WWE is high on him, yet you hardly see him. He is a gifted athlete, but I think he might be better off as a mouthpiece for other wrestlers, or as the leader of a faction. Which he has already done with the aborted New Breed stuff. He can work in the ring and, much like a lot of the guys on this list, works well as a heel which will get him work, but probably more as a manager/part time wrestler type. He is a much more talented version of Matt Stryker, if you will.

    3. [KOFI KINGSTON[/url] [IMG]

One of my new favorites. SUPER athletic kid who may rival Shelton Benjamin for best natural athlete in the WWE right now. The lift he gets on his jumps are insane. He needs to put on a few mor epounds in order to be taken seriously as a top contender, but his frame will allow him to do so with no problem.

I am amazed at how close his body type resembles that of Booker T, and their personalities seem to match as well in that they can work as both a heel, OR a face. Which is key. Why? Because it is harder to get over as a face in this business than a heel, and the fat that he can is huge. Tremendously talented. I look for big things from him going forward.

    2. C.M. PUNK [IMG]

No secret here. He is being groomed as a future star and is on the cusp of doing so. He won the MitB match and will most likely cash in to become a world champ. Another guy who can work as a face rather easily and has the personality where, even it is over the top somewhat, you still dig him (unlike that horrid d-bag John Cena).

    1. SHELTON BENJAMIN [IMG]

I will not rest until this man is used properly. The Gold Standard gimmick is actually a pretty good one in my opinion. BUT IT DOESN"T WORK UNLESS HE WINS SOME GOLD! Ugh. Idiots. Give him the ECW title and let him run with it for awhile. Honestly, Kane offers nothing for anyone in ECW. Give the title to Shelton and let him run roughshod for awhile before you bring him back (hopefully to Smackdown).

The guy has the perfect combination of size, speed, agility and strength in my opinion. The only place he could improve upon is on the mic, and honestly, it is easy enough to mask that (or even bring Elijah on as his mouthpiece?).

So there you have it, my top 10 guys to build around if I am the WWE. I didn't get into what each guy could do gimmick wise as that would have taken much more time and energy on my part, and quite frankly, I am lazy. But feel free to add your own or rip me for putting someone on that shouldn't be.

I like the list. What is your incite on Cody Rhodes?

  5. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

Cody was originally on my list, but he really hasn't shown much in way of wrestling talent or charisma. He needs to get bigger and needs to do something on his own first in order to have any type of career going forward.

However, he is very young and has a decent look to him, so he could be something. My initial thoughts on him though are that he is too rigid and too plain to ever break out.

DH Smith has a fantastic look about him, but he screwed up right out of the gates with the steroids issue and might not ever recover from it.

Wrestling died with the WWF and WCW.

Its so horrid now its unwatchable.

Glad to see Shelton on that list though.

ROH is a great fed to watch soe young hungry talent (almost literally as the indies are paying horribly right now...)
and the WWE has some really nice young talent (as mentioned above) but their creative department is severely lacking. If I was given the book, I think I could have compelling storylines and new stars within 4-6 months.

Perhaps I give myself too much credit, but I think I am tapped into the culture of wrestling fairly well and I can write scripts/storylines/episodic TV in a way that keeps people reading/watching.

I have a couple of dark horses to add to the list.

    Cody Rhodes.
He reminds me alot of Randy Orton coming out of the box, no solid gimmick. Once he gets a solid gimmick(no not Goldust the second) He's going to be a solid player.

    Paul London.
If they ever turn to the cruiser weight division for solid performers he has to be at the top of the list. Get him out of tag team matches and start letting him go for a belt.

    Festus.
Love the style, love the gimmick, could turn out to be a good big man with some tweaking.

    Santino Morella

Huge heel heat, hell he's not even really italian! Good on the mic.

Bryan Danielson is great (and actually helped train yours truly for a brief moment in time), but he is rather small so his best bet it probably going to come in TNA if he decides to go there.

I have always been a fan of Christopher Daniels (Curry Man), but it looks as though he is in the Russo dog house of sorts. Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Samoa Joe, all those ROH boys are talented and can be big stars (if they aren't already) within TNA. Only Samoa Joe would I venture to say can transition that into any type of career in the WWE and that is assuming Vince didn't just feed him to his own creation (Umaga).

Frankie Kazarian is fantastic and seemingly getting his due finally. I remember seeing him in a ladder match with my old trainer and shaking my head knowing that I was watching a future star.

Jay Lethal is young and talented. I think the scary part is that there aren't really any big men that stand out to me. Matt Morgan is interesting, but with him going to AMericans Galdiators, it will limit his time and development. Shaw in the WWE is a big man prospect but VERY green right now, which is why he is in a tag team still. Lance Cade is a WWE favorite who they will try like heck to get over someday. I can see him taking a JBL type approach to his gimick. In fact, it might not be a bad idea to work him in as JBL's protege, seeing as how JBL has a bad back.

You could have JBL set up fueds, claim he is busy or hurt, and send Cade out in his place. The key is to have Cade WIN some matches doing that though so that it means something. Because down the road you can have Cade break off and fued with JBL and hopefully solidify himself as a legit

    face. Just a thought though.

Homicide is a great talent as well.

Interesting, thanks bro. Out of the names mentioned, do you believe any are destined to stardom in the WWE? I am assuming Kazarian is on top of your list since you seem to like him a lot and praise him.

I am enjoying the angle between Steiner and Petey. IMO Petey is one of the better X division wrestlers.

Awesome Kong has to be one of the best and most intimidating womens wrestlers I have ever seen.

See, I think they missed the boat on Cody right off. They should have had Dusty accompanying him down to the ring as his mentor. Have him lose a bunch early on, only to have dad keep encouraging him. Cody becomes more and more disenfranchised and starts listening to outside forces (a manager perhaps? Estrada would have been good). And do the Rocky 5 gimmick. The kid starts coming down to the ring with both his father and a manager and starts winning. He gives credit to the manager and gets his first title shot. He loses by submission when Dusty throws the towel in (ala Arnold Skaaland and Backlund). Cody snaps and attacks his old man.

You could even bring back Dustin to try and talk some sense into Cody, only to have Cody fire back that Dustin was nothing but a cross dressing freak who flamed out in the business. They could fued with for awhile and then move on to Dusty having amatch with his kid in which he refuses to strike him. Cody pounds him into a nice bladejob, heel heat is through the roof and Cody is set up for fueds down the road.

The best part? You can run a nice reunion angle down the road where Dusty runs in to save his son from a beatdown and Cody is then a face. This stuff writes itself sometimes.

As for London, I am torn, but I think he is the breakout star of the two. I could see a Rockers type disintergration between the two (think of THOSE matches...) and have London move on to second tier fueds and see what he can do.

No, I fully expect most of those guys, if not all, to stay put and hopefully build a foundation for TNA. Otherwise, TNA will sink. They cannot rely on Nash, Steiner, Angle, Sting and Booker T forever as most of those guys are in their 40's. People like Christian, Styles, Joe, and a few others will need to grab the torch and move forward with it. If they split for WWE, they will be buried in the undercard and never used. Even worse, TNA will fold and they will have no other viable option to fall back on.
